Abhaya was killed one year back.If you are a follower of this blog ,you know exactly what I am talking about.

Its a sad state of affair and the horrifying events leading up to it,didn’t happen in one day.Systematic corruption and systematic suppression of the truth is sad.

The young doctor shouldn’t have died.

The crime shouldn’t have been suppressed .

The crime shouldn’t go unpunished.

The small thing we can do,is to remember.

IMA Malda remembers.

But do you remember?

Do you remember the first few moments when you heard the news?

Did you check the news feeds to check the truth of it?

Did it make you afraid ?

Did you stand up for it?

Did you gaslight the protesters and those who wanted to protest?

Were you the friend/brother/sister/aunt/uncle/colleague who went out on the streets to protest ?

Were you the one who went about their daily life ,thinking this can’t touch me?

Is your life still the same ?

Did you wonder were is Abhaya?

Do you wonder how those monsters live with themselves?

Do you now believe in systematic corruption?

Do you believe being human and staying human took a new turn with this?

Did you talk to your children about this?Did you hide the reality of it ?

Do you believe in life after death?

Do you wonder about the shadows hiding in plain sight who are trying to cover this up daily ?

Whatever you think or do , or don’t,don’t lose hope.Don’t stop praying for Justice. Remember her.

Kashi Prayagraj Ayodhya Lucknow Roundabout Trip in December

It started on a great note.Ten of us started for Kolkata by catching Gour express from Malda town on the night of 23rd December 2023.

We reached Kolkata ,the morning of 24th December and rushed to the airport all 😊 excited to meet the other members of our travel team.

My mom was being picked up by our friends and they were meeting us at the airport.We reached early checked in our luggage and waited for them to arrive and then we had a good breakfast tuck in at the food court.Dosa ‘s were hot and fresh and right of the tawa and cups of chai from the tea junction stall .Plus there was a mandatory dessert sampling from Flurys ,right next door.I love their chocolate cube and it’s my must-have whenever I am at the airport!

After that we waited and waited and waited.The flight was delayed significantly .Indigo gave us food for lunch and finally the flight took off late afternoon and we reached Kashi in a blink.The flight was smooth .But the delay caused our plans to go a little haywire.

But it was the holidays and we were in a good mood.Plus I was remembering the Home Alone movies and how their Christmas holidays always ended up crazy.I was glad we skipped the crazy and it was just irritating in parts.

Now as soon as we reached Kashi we felt the vibe of this old sacred city.A place you can only visit if Kashi Vishwanath wants you to come.

We hopped onto the Tempo Traveller .A great one with comfortable reclining chairs,phone charging ports and AC vents next to each seat .It was a 16 seater Tempo and we were 14 people plus luggage for 14.There were three kids ,four senior citizen and everyone excited.

But before we could reach the hotel Dolphin Grand, the traffic situation just infront of the hotel meant we were ten minutes from the hotel struck in an impossible traffic jam in a 16 seater car and thinking what to do.The hotel told us due to some visiting dignitaries the road in front of the hotel was now a no vehicle zone and only foot traffic allowed.They were sending help to rescue us!

So guess what?Help came.They helped us carry our luggage ,helped the senior citizens and rest of us hopped out of the car with kids in tow.We stepped gingerly over covered drains,climbed over steps ,swung around waiting two wheelers,autos and cars and thankfully reached the hotel with smiles on our face,because we were finally here and everyone was okay.

We were so happy that the multiple delays and travel fatigue simply dropped away and we decided to have a quick dinner and go exploring the night streets of Kashi .Ghat hopping at night.It sounded like the perfect post dinner plan with only one problem .Strictly walking and no car because no one had the energy to wait through another traffic jam.Would the seniors in our group want to go for a night time stroll through the unfamiliar lanes of Kashi?Would the kids enjoy that?

Yes yes and yes.

Even my mom with arthritis was enthusiastic about exploring the Gali’s(lanes and bylanes) of Kashi.Serpentine and lined with shops and thronging with people .The weather was cool and pleasant .Not too cold and definitely pleasant.

A note here.Kashi is one of the important pilgrimage places for Hindus in India.There are so many temples,God’s and Goddesses all around the Kashi Viswanath Mandir that it’s impossible to visit all of them.So we would be going around with a guide the next day and he was coming to have a chat with us about the itinerary.

First temple hopping was at Kedarghat.

On 25th December morning it was first Kashi Vishwanath temple,followed by Kaal Bhairav temple,Sankat Mochan temple,Durga Kund and more.

That evening we went for launch ride in the Ganga and then watched the Ganga Aarti.That was mesmerizing and is one of the must-do things in Kashi.

That was followed by visit to Kashi chaat Bhandar which wasn’t successful.Everyone who was in Kashi was there and we couldn’t get in.That was disappointing .But what we did late at night was walk on the streets of Kashi enjoying the sights and sounds.

The next day (26th December) morning we went for a bath at the ghats (there were changing rooms there).Ask your local guide for the best ghat for bathing because there are specific ghats for specific reasons. Like at certain ghats bathingbis done only after offering last rites .

After catching a quick breakfast our car started for a day trip to Prayagraj.

Then we went by boat to Triveni sangam ,offered puja there to the Ganga river and watched birds flying all over.The biggest problem was the extensive begging on the ghats.Unlike Kashi there seemed to be less organizational capabilities of Prayagraj administration.It was a missed opportunity. But we enjoyed the trip.

Back to Kashi we went shopping for the famous Benarasi sari .I looked in wonder at the variety of Benarasi sarees.I never knew there was even cotton Benarasi.While my friends bought a pile of them what broke my heart was when I heard,they were all machine-made!Plus they looked nothing like those at Indian Silk House exclusive or B.K Fashions .While others went to try their luck at Kashi chaat bhandar we went to relax at the hotel.

Tamatar chaat was wonderful and they came back telling us about the wonders of flavors.S

We were at Kashi for 2 days and 2 nights .Ist night was when we reached.On the third day we visited Ayodhya en-route to Lucknow.Since it was a long route ,roadside food at local hotels were chosen depending on what ur driver suggested.At Kashi and Prayagraj we had strictly vegetarian food.Lucknow Hyatt has all varieties

Next day it was Ayodhya which I have described here .

My saree shopping got a new life in Lucknow where I finally bought a beautiful red chikankari saree.

But otherwise Lucknow for me didn’t have the best experience.Lucknow Hyatt overbooked us.10 rooms were reserved while we wanted 5.It took good paet pf an hour to clear the confusion.The room allotment was delayed and we loitered at the lounge while they unscrambled the mess.Rooms were spacious with zero view.The worst partHyatt charges extra for everything and wants you to get membership for accessing small indoor play areas for kids.Its breakfast buffet was complementary and they had Insufficient seating for the in house guests.The long wait was embarrassing and for kids difficult. Not family friendly according to my experience. Plus I suffered the worst food poisoning ever on my second day at Lucknow and didn’t want to try the food experiments. Be careful

Don’t miss iconic Tunday Kababi, Idris Biryani, and Prakash Kulfi.Mentioning what I was told.I gave this all a missed because of tummy problems .Incidentally Hyatt was where we stayed but I am not recommending that particularly.
Optionally visit Rumi Darwaza, British Residency, and Ambedkar Park.We really enjoyed the walk at Ambedkar park.

How do you choose online resources for your children?

I normally get a lot of information from my daughters’ school group or my friends who are moms. I feel that right research is very important as there is a lot of information out there. So its important to get relevant resources from a trusted source. After researching, I choose them on the basis of what my child needs and what is right for her.

What are your must have resources for parents?

I don’t use too many resources but there a few which I use. Like I watch a lot of TEDx videos on parenting. They are very helpful. Other than that I follow this group called high school mom son Facebook which has a lot of good information related to teens.

Also, I would like to mention my own education related group called Education buddy which was started with the aim of getting all the relevant information to parents. You can follow it to get some information around education.

What are the problems you faced during 2020 and elearning?

I think the first challenge was to adapt to the online education for me and kids both. Initially it was surely not easy as it was something new for kids and for us too. Sometimes there were internet issues, or camera or microphone problem. But, all said and done, apart from the technical issues, it was more challenging to keep kids creatively engaged. Online classes have their own challenges and limitations.

This is for my younger one who is in 9th grade but for elder one who is going to college this year, its been a roller coaster ride for sure. The entrances kept on postponing and till today we are still deciding a right college for her. So, 2020 has been little challenging for sure but we are getting used to it and hopefully it will work out for the best.

Do mention a few courses or apps online your children use?

My daughter uses Microsoft teams for school classes.

Exam.net for exams answer sheet scanning and uploading.

Zoom for online coaching and extracurricular classes.

Other than these, she likes to Kan academy videos for any doubts she is facing.

Want to mention one more app which I reviewed recently. We subscribed to The Toppr app recently and my daughter is finding them helpful.

What do you feel about excessive propaganda advertising when it comes to learning platforms?

As they say, excess of anything is bad. Same goes with advertising and although it is important for any brand to get their word outside, one must be careful that its not becoming a nuisance for customers.

When it comes to any app or product for parents, bombarding them with information and false promises is also not right. Parents are not fools, they understand what is right for their kids and what not.

Do you think the value of such platforms match the money spent?

I am sure its value for money for the apps as they are earning lakhs through it but I am not sure if it’s value for money for parents. Sometimes, parents spend lakhs to enroll kids and later realise that kids are not interested. So, I would say first decide what’s right for your child as every child is different. Do not go by what others are doing for their kids. You know your child better than anyone else. So, make a wise decision.

What about online gaming advertising aimed at kids? Your opinion? Your tips for keeping kids safe online?

I feel its parents’ responsibility to make sure kids are not exposed any such apps/websites which are not right for them. But easier said than done, you cannot control it completely especially now when everything is online.

I would say, talk to your kids about right and wrong of internet and explain to them what can be the consequences.

Second, you can use parental control apps in your child’s phone or laptop.

Thirdly, Fix the timings and for that also there are few apps which let you control for how long a child is on hos/her phone.

Affordable Accessible Healthcare for all #BadaltaBharatMeraAnubhav

Affordable accessible Healthcare for all .Is that even possible? Affordable has a different definition depending on what one earns and accessible is even more tricky .I am an Indian doctor ,an ENT surgeon who grew up in Kolkata,studied in Kolkata and Delhi and finally working in a small town and also rural setup in Malda.I have seen healthcare set up in small and big Government hospitals and private ones in all the places I have lived and worked in .I always wondered how India would manage to grow a healthy population ,when there were so many mouths to feed and treat.

When Ayushman Bharat was launched I wrote about it on the blog.It showed the way for a healthy nation. It’s easily the most ambitious, people friendly, universal healthcare scheme .Ayushman Bharat is named right, wishing the people of Bharat a long healthy life. Its showed us promise of a bright Bharat in 2018 and it has helped countless people since then.

The scheme is implemented in 33 States/UTs except the NCT of Delhi, West Bengal, and Odisha.Before 2018 India had never seen such an extensive scheme covering in-patient healthcare for Indians.

What does the Data say about Ayushman Bharat?

As of June 30, 2024, over 34.7 crore Ayushman cards created and 7.37 crore hospital admissions authorized, representing claims worth ₹1 lakh crore.
AB-PMJAY provides health cover of Rs. 5 lakhs per family per year for secondary and tertiary care hospitalization.Its estimated to reach approximately 55 crore beneficiaries corresponding to 12.34 crore families.
Under this scheme 1949 procedures across 27 medical specialties are covered.
Over 34 crore Ayushman cards, ~7.4 crore admissions, ₹1 lakh crore claims by mid‑2024.(source)

In a country like India fighting overpopulation ,poverty,malnutrition and health issues can break the proverbial camel’s back. We can’t one day all become healthy, wealthy and wise. In a country like ours everything needs to be started with a minimal viable program .That’s where Ayushman Bharat shines. There are problems .But even the richest countries in this world have their own share of that.

The Indian Government rightly identified health being the most important qualifier for a game changing economy. A healthy nation means a healthy workforce .That translates to an eventually wealthy nation.A nation that leads but also helps those left behind.

Focus on Tuberculosis

Rich or poor, heathcare costs are the same for all.Diseases don’t come checking your bank balance and that’s the reason preventive healthcare is crucial.

But even when treatment is concerned Bharat has truly changed .Badalta Bharat now has ambitious goals of getting rid of Tuberculosis by 2025 .The Nikshay Poshan Yojana takes it one step further by providing nutitional support (direct to benficiary) for all notified Tuberculosis patient ,notified on or after 2018.The Government also launched the Nikshay Mitra scheme by which individuals and organizations can support the Government scheme through donations .That I think is an unique approach to helping those in need.

Mother and Child Care Poshan Abhiyan

There are also several schemes aimed at mother and child care, for better nutrition of pregnant mothers, improving childhood nutrition and preventing childhood diseases.Universal Immunization program is an important example.

POSHAN Abhiyan is another one, where the focus was firmly turned on to early childhood nutrition being the best way forward, for building a healthy nation .If childhood nutrition is right ,then the citizens of the future will suffer much less, leading to a healthy workforce and a wealthy nation.It starts with the girl child who will one day become the mother.Beti Bachao Beti Padhao promotes prevention of female foeticide, and education of the girl child.

Digital footprint

One of the best part about all this is India going digital.With the Aarogya setu app and Cowin app helping people finding the dates and places where they could get vaccinated, India had arrived.

E-sanjeevani telemedicine is another wonderful initiative where top specialists can help even those in rural areas. As of 2025 more than sixteen crore consultation has been done. That kind of outpatient care costs money .But more importantly intent of the Government to truly walk the talk. Expansion of Jan Aushudi stores makes affordable quality medicine possible.

Ayushman Bharat Digital Mission (ABDM) now has made Unique Health IDs for doctors and patients ensuring health records are digitized and accessible. That didn’t happen overnight .Health tech needs public-private partnership and that’s where incentives for adoption for Government schemes makes things easier and this Government knows that very well.

Going digital will take Bharat a long way in delivering affordable,accesible healthcare .

COVID and India

Last but not the least was how this Governent handled the COVID Pandemic.COVID was game changing .The Indian Government didn’t leave anyone behind.The lockdown ,social distancing ,rules positive messaging ,promoting safe healthcare practices and developing an indigenous vaccine -we saw everything.

With #MadeInIndia vaccine covering everyone and sharing with those less fortunate, we knew Badalta Bharat was real. COVID pandemic showed how India is capable of delivering healthcare and free vaccine to all its citizens. I was lucky to be one of the first to get the first dose of COVISHIELD.That my friends is my favorite moment from the last 10 years.

But my Bharat is not stopping just with preventive, primary or secondary healthcare. With investment in clean renewable energy ,ek per maa ke naam ,health education India is waking up to primordial prevention,as its main aim, to give its citizens the best chance life can give.

Swachh Bharat and Swasth Bharat is not just a goal it’s a journey.It’s a jouney where all the Indians,need to travel together.No one should be left behind and for that we also need to focus on personal and individual responsibilty for own health.

The way forward:

Preventing addictions and helping in de-addiction.

Improving vaccine coverage even more.

Incentivizing staying healthy with tax breaks.

Health points for taking care of own and family health .

Preventing and punishing violence against healthcare workers with exemplary punishments .

Focusing on quality health education and quality of life for healthcare professionals might be the game changer in the next ten years. Because the doctor must be healthy to help heal those who need it.

40 Reasons I am Thankful for in 2025

As the year crosses the halfway mark in 2025, I feel a tremendous sense of gratitude for the years that went by. It’s important I remember. That’s why I thought of updating this blog post and writing them down and sharing with you.

In case you want to improve your mood ,start a thankfulness journal or just find a list of things to feel grateful about ,check out this prompt list.

40 reasons I am thankful: Amazing things that happened

1)I walked 5 km every day for the last 365 days. Give and take a few here and there. Not joking at all. This has been my best gift to me this year.
Hoping to take it up a notch in 2018.Health is my biggest wealth and I will never forget that.

2)I wrote more than I ever wrote before.That has been a gamechanger in more ways than one.

3)My daughter enjoys her drawing doodling and artwork as much as I do.Check this post out to know what I mean.

4)I got gifted books more than any other year.The main reason I want to take up a Reading challenge this year.

5)I traveled.Family vacations just to unwind for few days but mind refresh like nothing else can.

6)I fell in love with the Fade away sleep sounds.Sea noises and white noise will help you relax and sleep anywhere.
I travel a lot.Travel companion in trains can be unpredictable.That’s why your trusty earplugs and soothing sounds can make you fall asleep anywhere.
Never let your beauty napping be hampered again.They are great for putting your baby to sleep (Kevin has a special set of beautiful soothing sound for just this).I also use them to concentrate while writing!

7)I found fantastic friends online.I realized once again that good friends grow with you even if it’s in opposite direction.Only when you respect growth will relationships survive.
All relationships are a balance of good, bad and ugly.The trick is to increase the good and downplay the rest.

Support from unexpected directions made me deeply grateful once again.

8 )I reaffirmed my faith in humanity.With terror strikes everywhere only kindness, good sense and positive actions will help us.
9)Things I learned from the sea:
What goes around will come around.
So be careful whom you associate with.Negativity breeds negativity.An attitude of gratitude is cool.It makes you a good things magnet.Try it and see.

10.Writing is fun, happiness, cathartic soul food, rants, thank you notes, wishlist, to do list and everything else.While good writing needs a lot of practice.It’s achievable. Just measure your success on your own scale.Not with others.

11.Closure is needed.
Maybe not possible physically but you can do it all the time inside your head.

12.Save money earn money, invest, buy your insurances.Health and child education are priorities but rest use for things which nourish your soul.

13.Supporting creativity is wonderful.When you are creative you become more innovative

14.Women make up half the world’s population but less than 10 percent of policymakers in the world.Being a woman is a challenge in whichever profession you are and wherever you are.

It depends on how you take it.Remember women are diamonds you are born to shine.So take it on ladies the universe is yours.Embrace it and walk with us to break those glass ceilings.

The first I used for some time the latter is my partner in my healthy living journey for last 3 years.

21.My absolute favorite lipstick this year was smudge me not by Sugar.
If you are a busy mommy blogger who hates retouching lipstick then this will be a lifesaver.Lipstick has secret superpowers.

22.My favorite Nikon camera and tripod changed my blogging life forever.2018 will be all about better pics on my blog.

23.My favorite site online is still Indiblogger.For making so many of my posts top posts.

24.Favourite tools online InLinkz link up tool, Lumen 5 and Recurpost.

25 Favourite plugin Yoast SEO tool the premium version I co-bought with Neha and it takes awesome to a new level.

27.My most popular video was not educational.It’s a tongue twister and was a contest.Made me realize I need to have a fun script for some of my videos.

29.The resolutions I broke this year.
I cried about things I promised I wouldn’t.
I am behind folding clothes and keeping them in the right place.I decided to give away everything I haven’t worn for one year.That way less clutter. But goals not met.

31.I am still blogging .Its July of 2025 and this year making money blogging became really difficult.But I am exploring other avenues and will share once they appear more definitive.Intellifluence continues to send offers which unfortunately dont always fit my palns.But it makes a fruitful appearance once a year .So also Canva creator opportunities. Its not as good as before but it helps me keep up with blog maintenance.

32.I am planting even more trees and getting opportunity to care for even more.Its not just about what we need physically from trees .Its more about an inner connection.There are very few selfless creatures on earth and trees help us selflessly.Without them planet earth would be a has-been.

33.I travelled to Bhutan in 2025 summer and found a country filled with fresh air(its carbon negative ),with zero flashing lights,no billboards and absolutely no honking .They have certain downside like all great things ,but environment and wellbeingw ise they are on the right path.

34.I am learning to put away the phone and thats a big reason for thankfulness.It’s my 2025 agenda to be the right example for my daughter .Its difficult to be strict about device use with my head stuck in doom scroll mode.Plus I suffered from a sufdden mobile phone elbwo syndrome/cubital fossa syndrome mimicking a tennis elbow .That has fast tracked my de-addiction.These are the seriosu stuff.On a happier note I realized that the mobile phone is designed to be addictive .The worse is the i-phone.Apparently its created in such a way that an i-phone user can never give it up.More about that will come up on a feature story soon on the blog.

35.I am grateful for clear isnight about what happens to my body when I eat certain food.Thats why I could finally wrote about the unhealthy nexus between Big food and big pharma and its not pretty.We all know this to some extent ,but how deep is the rot?That’s for you and me to find out .

36.I am grateful for the universe helping me find answers to tough existential questions. I will not bore you with that today but you will hear about it on the blog soon enough.

37.I realized the power of mindfulness once again and now I am spending time specifically focusing my mind on the work at hand.

38.I was able to successfully finish a watercolour art course by Jenna Rainey,step by step and not keep it for later.I wrote all about it here.

39.I was able to finally update and publish my second audiobook How to walk ,write and garden for the healthy life you want .It is definitely hard work creating your audiobook and self narrating it .But nonfiction needs insight of the author to make it helpful and relateable. You can listen to it for free on youtube.

40.Staying healthy ,choosing the right food,doing the right thing is not easy .People call me stick-in-the-mud, opinionated know-it-all a lot of things when I ride my high horse.But if that keeps me healthy and lets me sleep in peace at night, then I choose my peace. I am grateful to my Lord Krishna for guiding my path .Always.
