BIG MAGIC by Elizabeth Gilbert(Summary & Review)
Big Magic by Elizabeth Gilbert is a book you must read if you haven’t.One book you must read to write better!
Quick summary :
The Big Magic will dispel myths about creativity and help you discover the way to your most creative life.
Full summary and review
What exactly is creativity?
Creativity is you, nature, and the universe all coming together to create something miraculous. Creativity is a beautiful way to feel one with God.
Most Inspirational Big Magic Quotes I love
Big magic Quotes you must read for a creative life:
- If you are supporting yourself financially and you are not bothering anyone else then you are free to do whatever you want with your life!
- Do whatever brings you to life.
- Stop complaining.
- Gratitude All The Way
- If you have a creative mind give it something to do.If you don’t create you will end up destroying if not anything else your peace of mind.
- Liberte ego from your creativity.
- Don’t let go when things start getting agitating it just becomes interesting
- Holding yourself together through all the phases of creation is where the real work life .-Mark Manson
- Everything sucks some of the time you have to decide what sort of suckers you are willing to deal with.
- You must lIve your most creative life to fight back against the ruthless Furnace of this world.
Myths about creativity the book busted
- Give up your day job and write
- You must suffer in order to create
- Perfection is overrated
Myth 1 Give up your day job to write!
You must give up everything to write. Having a 9 to 5 job prevents creativity this is a myth
In real life when you do have a 9to 5 job your financial worries are taken care of. Then you are free to create form a place with no stress.
Myth 2 You must suffer in order to be creative.
It’s painful to write. This is a negative emotion associated with the journey of creation
Truth: Creation is beautiful. It should not be painful. Choose to write from a place which is positive and hopeful and you will be happier.
Myth 3 Whatever you create must be perfect before it is revealed to the world.
Truth: Perfection is overrated. What is perfect for you, maybe totally imperfect for someone else. So strive for perfection from your perspective. Most of the time you can’t please everyone. It’s better to complete than strive for the mirage of perfection and use that as an excuse to never complete.
My favorite message from the book Big Magic
We all have hidden treasures inside us. We must try to live our most creative life. But for that, we have to believe. We have to be courageous. We just need to believe, have faith and bring it out.
About the Author
Big Magic is written by Elizabeth Gilbert the internationally bestselling author of Eat Pray Love.
If the name is anything to go by and if you believe in the universe you must read this book
She has international best selling books of both fiction and nonfiction.
If you write, if you draw, if you’re knitting, baking, creating in any form you are creative.
But what exactly is creativity?
How do you live a creative life?
Why is creativity important for a better life?
What didn’t I like?
I am a fan. This book changed my life. I loved everything including the cover and back cover!
Twoย other books that I love
The trick to Money is having some
My thoughts about why I am sharing this book:
You must read the book if you love creating.
Anything which gives you pleasure and gives you joy may be a creative hobby. If you feel self-doubt and anxiety about exposing your work to the public.
The best part is you should love what you do enough to do it. But have enough detachment to not be affected by extreme success and the opposite.(That’s from the Bhagavad Gita)
The lesson of life is never done. Nothing is ever perfect. Things may always be improved. But you need to be ‘done’ some of the time if not most of the time.
Have you read the book?
Who is this book for?
If you are reading my blog this is for you.
If you are writing, this is for you.
If you want a happier life creating and making space for creativity in your life this is for you.
If you are a SAHM, WAHM, working from home /outside mom struggling to write on your blog, this is for you.
If you are a student and write as a hobby this is for you.
If you are in your twenties, thirties forties, or fifties this book is for you.
It will change your life.

Thankful Thursdays(2) :For the love of books
From the time I learnt how to read, books have been my constant companion.
I can read ,standing in a crowded platform . Reading in places ,which are outside my comfort zone is a my favourite brain workout .
Focus ,read ,understand.Become immune to the surrounding chaos.
I read ,ebooks when Rai sleeps in my lap.
I read books when I travel .Anywhere, anytime wherever I can.
I never visit the beauty parlour without my stash of books .
Waiting is fun for me, if I have my favourite books.
In the middle of chaos reading books calm me down.Even today when politics and economy both are making headlines, books helped.
I love getting books as gifts. Now blogging has made that even better.
Discovering new blogs ,reading them ,are like finding cookies hidden in moms kitchen .
If I didn’t read I would not have made it as a doctor.
If I didn’t read ,I would never have found your wonderful blogs.
If I didn’t read ,till my eyeballs fell off, I wouldn’t have managed to set up my blog .
If I didn’t read, I wouldn’t have my balcony garden.
If I didn’t read, I wouldn’t have found my hubby in medical college.
If I didn’t read I would never have the chance to read all the wonderful books stacked in libraries .
How does this habit of reading help ?
- Reading helps you write better.
- It improves vocabulary .
- It’s the best way to learn and increase knowledge .
- It builds memory.
- It helps you develop logical reasoning.
- It helps decrease stress
- It’s a form of mindfulness therapy.
- It gives you mental stimulation which is the best way to stop ageing.
I feel thankful for this love of reading.
Which habit are you thankful for, this #Thankful Thursday?
