How do I use CANVA (Feature Updates you will love )

I didn’t know different platforms have different image dimensions. I didn’t know about colors, fonts compression, pixels. I still kind of wing it. But I have a friend who helped.

Her name was Canva. She didn’t laugh at my seriously flawed (still crooked) designs. She didn’t laugh at my attempts to DIY it. She just showed me template inspirations and a vision. That’s what friends do, right? They have your back.I started blogging in 2014 .Here’s a full list of tools and resources I use to blog.

I have been a Canva friend since forever.I don’t remember who recommended her, but I am still grateful.

Do you know how scary design tools can be? For a novice, it can be a headache while climbing a mountain blindfolded.I am a doctor and had zero design sense starting out.

But using Canva is easy .

What do you need to do?

Create an account on Canva. You can work online, on the app, or get it on your desktop and work. offline.Sync between device and you are good to go.

The best part is it’s designed for all types of creatives. From beginners to experts. It’s also much more budget-friendly than other design tools.

Remember I talked about Seth Godin’s shaving the yak? Apparently, that’s a thing for everything. If the barrier to entry is too high, you and I both might give up.

But if it’s as easy as select/drag/drop ? You learn to do it . That’s my journey with Canva.

If not for Canva my Ebook covers would need the extra headache. With Canva templates it’s super easy.

How do I use Canva?

I used their ebook templates for creating all my book covers.

Their social media templates for posts on Twitter,fb, Instagram, Tangi, YouTube thumbnails, Pinterest.I use the one-click Resize option.

I use their Video making a feature for making a quick audiograms of my Podcast.

I use their resize feature to resize one image for different platforms.

I create pdfs.

I compress my image

I download different versions of the image.

I use it to create my presentations

Now I can use it to schedule my posts.

I am super stoked.

With the Canva Scheduler and the Pinterest native scheduler, you will never worry ever again. It’s a feature made for the Canva user

Also, did you know Canva Design school takes you through the basics of designing? The courses are free and help nondesigners (like me) do more.

Try the Canva live option or create a voice-over video right from your desktop. The perks for premium users just hit the roof.

Art Effect on Kids: How to encourage creativity?

People like to put other people inboxes.They even put their own self inboxes.All neatly labeled.

When I describe myself, I am aware of the labels and the boxes I am in.What if we don’t put labels?What if we explore and learn?

The only thing my daughter keeps needing is, art copies and those black pens. We seem to run out of both regularly. I used to draw too. But then life happened, and drawing for fun just disappeared. I don’t even remember why, when, or how it happened. It just quietly slipped away from my life. The magic of pencil on paper, the colors bringing it to life all went out like a dream does on waking up.

Then my daughter was born, and she drew all around our house, our walls as far as she could. Her drawing, painting, doodles make up for most of the papers we need to sort regularly. But they give us plenty of smiles too.

The right brain experience has a lot to do with creativity. Its also the source of design thinking. If you have ever wondered whether Right brainers will rule the World, give the podcast a listen.

My daughter’s art teacher used to visit every Saturday. Due to the pandemic that came to a stop. Even with online resources available, certain things for kids are best learned with human contact. That’s why now when there are no teachers, we draw together.

If you flip through the album below, you will see how she is drawing her daily life. I sometimes wish I could pull images out of thin air.

Draw with her, because you cannot help her if you can’t help yourself. You may not be an expert; you just need to be there. Drawing with her.
Ask her to draw the stories she tells.
Learn to draw from her
Encourage her creativity and dont focus on whether its anatomically correct or not.
Enjoy her art.
Help her explore different art forms
Take her for nature walks for inspiration
Give her the confidence to create from a place of grace.
Embrace the magic of creativity, because if you’re a parent, you need to believe too.

I am Dr.Amrita Basu(Misra), an ENT surgeon. I was previously a Medical teacher and now, self-employed. I am a mom to a little girl, a pediatrician’s wife—both my husband, my sister, and my best friend blog.
I have seen substance abuse and mental health disorders very close up . Lost friends to a mental health crisis and have tried hard to do the things which keep my insides happy.

That’s how I fell into blogging. I was running out of online shopping options and discovered the amylynnandrews.com blog and the smartpassiveincome.com blog by Pat Flynn, which was my favorite resource to learn from.

I started blogging in 2014.I have two blogs, a youtube channel, and two podcasts. I have written eight nonfiction and two fiction books, all available on Amazon.

I love reading, gardening, doodling, traveling, and recently started experimenting with baking bread. Walking is my favorite exercise.

I am an Aquarian. I am practical, but I daydream a lot. I simply cannot trust people who lie about money stuff. I believe in magic and the power of prayers. I am a great believer in being thankful and have an entire series of posts on the topic.

I love traveling, learning how things work, exploring nature, and finding out ways to earn working from home.

Its important you try.Even if you can’t do everything, that you tried,puts you way ahead of the game.In most Challenges I am lagging behind on many days. I don’t want to try any more.But every year ,I try some more.

Most things worth doing are difficult.

You will learn .Trying new things changes us forever.You pick up tips,skills resources and creative magic.

It helps you find new readers.When you depend on organic traffic ,finding a friendly blogging community will be crucial.

You will feel wonderful that you did this in COVID times of 2020.Thats stuff history is made of and we are all a part of it.

Life’s Like This in September 2020

There’s saying,

If you want God to laugh ,tell him.about your plans!

I never had any plans to write while growing up .I was a serious planner,even planning my dreams.But now I have been writing for six years .I am still thinking about this one.

Charlie Munger , says few people change their bad habits,some can’t even find any to change .Got me thinking. I can list several bad habits which I want to change.Number one is procrastination. Is there a supplement for this?

Tim Ferris says aerobic exercise is a term made up by gym owners,to charge more for doing less .He also goes on to say even more outrageous stuff in his book the four hour body.I like how he writes.

The meteorite that fell in China in 2019 caused the CCP virus pandemic.Thats one hypothesis.This made me speechless.Soms imagination!

The wifi repair person couldn’t find what was wrong with our connection.So he changed the entire setup. It worked.Sometimes not finding out the problem works great too.

I am having fun podcasting and hoping for a million dollar type deal from somewhere.Hoping for that one for blogging too.So that’s two deals waiting to happen.You will have to wait for how I did it book ,after that.

Whenever I scroll my Twitter feed I suffer from.”the world is about to end” fear.Once I shut it down,the world gets calmer.Is it me or Twitter?

If I scroll through Instagram,I find ninety percent of my influencers friends have amazing number of followers .It gives me a sense of gloom.I am never going to make it on Instagram.Serious FOMO here.What do I do? Go back to watching garden videos.

Whenever I take part in Challenges I am sure I will plan it well.I do.Mentally .Then things happen.Like the wifi which went on a holiday when we couldn’t.

While trying to plan to have a healthier diet,I have ordered two different nut butters.My hubby wants me to calculate the exact calorie in one cup of coffee with nut butter vs regular low fat milk.I want to postpone the math till tomorrow. Is that normal?

I was just watching a youtube video with my daughter about a Mother bear ,who had banned TV viewing.My daughter said ,all moms are the same.

People are still cutting down trees and wondering about air pollution.

Communism is the most well funded misinformation propaganda I have seen.They have a real plan it seems. I am taking a risk with this joke.They hear and see EVERYTHING. Then they write their version of it.????

Why do news media focus only on the problems everywhere. Why don’t the share about the solutions ?Is bad news more news worthy ?This is a bad joke.

I have ordered four history books for my daughter to read.The only problem is now she is fast checking my stories .????

Remembering Vidyasagar and eLearning

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar was a famous Bengali scholar, humanitarian, social reformer, and teacher. He was born on 26th September 1820.

Today on Creating cornerstone content I had to write about evergreen content. Stories are evergreen and stories about inspiring men and women more so. Today I will tell you about “Vidyasagar“.A man without whom, women in India may have never started on the road to literacy.

Ishwar Chandra Vidyasagar: Inspiring generations

His story is told to children far and wide in India. Growing up he struggled to get educated. Despite many hardships he stuck to it.He had started studying in the small village school of Birsingha where he was born to Mother Bhagavati Devi and father Thakurdas Bandyopadhyay. At the age of eight, he traveled to Kolkata with his father to study. He was very studious and intelligent.

There is a popular story that he used to sit studying under a street lamp, because come evening the light at his home was too feeble to read in. He came first on completion of his studies at Sanskrit college and was given the title of Vidyasagar meaning an ocean of knowledge.

Vidyasagar believed in the power of education and tried his best to promote the cause of female education. He wrote the book Barnaparichay,to teach the Bengali letters to those who wanted to learn.

His famous books include Barnoparichay, Bodhoday, Kathamala,Shakuntala Sitar banobas etc.

He established the Metropolitan Institution which is now known as the Vidyasagar College. He started several Girls school in the small villages and started a charitable hospital. He also started his own publishing press to promote the power of education. He was also a vocal supporter of widow remarriage and social upliftment of women in Hindu society.

The reason I am telling you all this is simple. He was a man who believed in the power of education. That words have power. He believed education could lift the girl child out of poverty and pain.

When you remember him, you remember how hard he worked to get educated. You remember that all over the world equal opportunity and the right to education are still not a reality.

You also remember that COVID 19 did one good thing. It pushed the cause of eLearning faster than you, me or anyone had ever imagined and for that I am grateful.(But companies like Byjus showed us what shouldn’t be done.)

Every cloud has a silver lining and eLearning the right way can open gates of opportunities like nothing else can. Access to teachers, courses, and books from across the seven seas. With access to the internet, anyone can access them. But even here you need to choose to learn. Because that’s something no one can gift you, teach you, or donate. You alone can.
