India, Bharat or Hindustan whatever you call it, this beautiful motherland of mine, is a lesson in unity in diversity. Okay, it may be a little on the rocks, but all relationships go through their ups and downs. Doesn’t mean we can’t repair the broken parts. But intentions from all sides must be towards the same goal. I love my country. I adore the variety of natural food, people and clothes offer.
When I lived in Delhi, I loved visiting all the food stalls at Dilli Haat. I loved the Rajasthani thali with moong daal ka halwa.I loved the Jalojog stall selling all things home. I loved Idli dosa and the Gujarati chaat. I liked Malabar parathas, Hyderabadi ย Biryani, and the northeastern momos and dumplings. Food in India is a tapestry of deliciousness.
When I first read Indiaโs history in school, I realized it was a beautiful melting pot of cultures, thoughts, and religions. I am a woman born in Independent India and in West Bengal. Growing up I was never told, I can’t do this or that. The only time my mum regretted not having a son(at least that’s what she said). was when things had to be bought late at night. Even then, it wasn’t safe to be out late at night. But strangely enough, I managed to grow up and become a doctor, coming home late at night without any major scares. The scare however now is significant. Not only because I am a woman, but I am a doctor. Every second someone is harassing a woman or beating up a doctor. Can anyone do any work when there’s a risk to life?
On a lighter note, this is our #Thankful Thursdays. Counting blessings make me feel more at peace. I feel thankful , that I had the independence to study what I wanted, with gender not being a deterrent.
I am glad can drive a car and have a license. Many countries in the world don’t allow females to drive.
I am glad I have a right in every decision in my marriage and my marital status, is in no way controlled by the state or by religious police.
I am glad I have a right to vote. Women still fight for that right in some countries.
I am glad our country is secular and appreciates the truth about the right to practice all religions.
I am also glad my countrymen are not afraid to stand up for what they believe in.
Simple things which we take for granted, don’t but important for those don’t enjoy the same privileges. It’s easy to ask for our rights, what’s difficult is doing our duties. Focussing on the nays makes them stronger, so I consciously decide to focus on the good.
Writing this for #Thankful Thursdays. What makes you thankful for your country? Comment below to let me know.
#ThankfulThursdays:What are the 5 Things about your country that make you thankful
If you remember your childhood, you will remember the time you were scolded and the times you had fun.
The in-between parts get lost.Memories are funny things. You recollect the ones which are special or terrifying. But what if you could bookmark or pin your memories?Like the pinned tweet or Fb post?
Would it help to have a bookmarking or pinning option in the brain?
Do you have one? Do you have a way to recall and enjoy those summer holiday memories?
What about the winter picnic and visit to the zoo? Do you take those memories out, dust them and cherish them like the jewels in your locker? Few of us do. But when I spend a lazy afternoon with my daughter creating a colorful chart or decorating the cake I hope she will bookmark this memory.
What Children learn
When she spends time making hundreds of cards for her friends, I hope she will remember this joy of making your own cards to gift. Children learn all the good things and the bad things from you first. As the adult in the relationship, you will need to know what’s right and what’s not. As an adult, you need to recall the good things you learn, the frameworks that worked and do the right thing.
But is it that simple?
A few days back my daughter woke up scared. It was a nightmare. The next night she was apprehensive while going to sleep.
I told her.
Plan the dream you want to see in your brain and pin it inside your head. Then go to sleep.
My six year old understands this language and didn’t complain of another nightmare after that.
Why this was important is, I was having disturbed sleep for a few days. While giving her this dose of mommy wisdom, I recalled exactly how I used to sleep well even during stressful exams. I am sleeping better now.
It’s in the mommy wisdom mode that some of my favorite posts have bloomed. Like the Superwomanpost and writing a letter to the universe. They were fun topics to write about and things I believed in. That’s why your brain needs a thought processer, a bookmarking system. Till then I am writing it down on the blog. What children learn has a lot to do with you. Give yourself loads of love.
Have a wonderful middle of the week. Comment below to let me know whether you would like to bookmark your brain?
Thankful Thursday is a popular category on my blog .I still write about thankfulness, but post it onlyย when I want to.Does it make sense? May be it does ,may be it doesnโt .What matters is I like saying thank you .Life is a blessing and I feel blessed all the time. For every person I thank and every thing I am thankful for,I becomeย a little happier.
14 Reasons you hateย the word Thankful (7 is more common than you think!)
But you have not heard of thankfulness .You donโt like the word ?
It lacks X factor and doesnโt sound cool at all.
Thereโs nothing to be thankful for ,ever!
Life is too short for silly stuff .
You are not into vague spiritualism.
You donโt get the point of it.
You canโt cook Turkey and thankfulness needs roast turkey(confusion with Thanksgiving).
You are not of that particular faith ( confusion with Thanksgiving).
You donโt want the positive brain wave associated with thankfulness .
You think it’s all show and no substance.
You hate the word and tired of it being overused .
You love hating stuff .
You are against anything which makes your life better.
You donโt believe in mental and emotional health.
14 Reasons you hateย the word Thankful!
You pretend to hate Thankfulness but in your heart you are thankful.Because honestly being alive is reason to be Thankful .Thankfulness is a powerful emotional tool, to make you more happy and successful.

Its a wayย of life,a choice to do the best for yourself ,a promise to your soul to always invite happiness and good fortune. If what you focus on grows, then you need to choose on what you want to grow in your life. This life and the one after will all be futile if you don’t decide to make the best of it.One way of doing this,is to keep an attitude to attract the blessings you need in your life.Attitude of Gratitude is serious buisiness, but it needs your commitment.
These are my favouriteย prompts to write on thankfulness and thankful notes .I believe you find whatย you seek.Thats why, being thankful works for me.What about you ?Are you a believer?
Once you write down exactly what you want and read it every day. You start to dream about it. This experiment I have been doing this since I was in the eighth standard. Does it work? Depends on what you want and how hard you can focus on it. The power of our minds and mindful focus on a single thought takes practice. But here goes.
Dear Universe
I am writing this letter because I wanted to say thank you. Thank you for all that you have given me.Thank you for the ability to be thankful, and for always remembering where I have come from and where I want to go.
A kind, understanding child, who makes me happy with her five-year-old wisdom.
Thank you for this ability to write away my tears. To write when I am happy, to write when I am angry. To write to teach and write to learn. Thank you, Universe for always guiding me with your light.
Thank you for this beautiful nature that surrounds me wherever I go.
Thank you for always protecting me.Thank you for giving me guardian angels to help me forever.
What I need help with are my wishes. Since I got over with the thank you, I need to tell you some things I need help with.
Dear Universe please help me deal with my anxiety, related to the mounting violence against doctorseverywhere, especially in West Bengal. I am regretting the decision to come back. But then I think of my mom, who needs us at least in the same state. My daughter would be in the hands of strangers anywhere else.
Writing a letter to the Universe-Does it works?
So guide me dear Universe. Help me work on my expectations. Help me get rid of my tendency to expect people to be more than what they are. People can only give what they have. Unrealistic expectations help no one right?
Do remind me of this when people surprise me, with their lack of understanding of human nature and the circle of deeds. Please stop this violence and madness we see everywhere. Why do news channels harp on about murders and horrors? Why can’t they spread positive stories like We are the World Blog Fest.
Remember, whatever you focus upon, increases…When you focus on the things you need, you’ll find those needs increasing. If you concentrate your thoughts on what you don’t have, you will soon be concentrating on other things that you had forgotten you don’t have-and feel worse! If you set your mind on loss, you are more likely to lose…But a grateful perspective brings happiness and abundance into a person’s life.โ
By Andy Andrews, The Noticer: Sometimes, All a Person Needs Is a Little Perspective
The universe does help me focus on the good and beautiful in my life.
Thank you, Universe for always being a good friend, a wise parent, and a wonderful teacher. I will write again soon. This was fun!

Are you a person of habits? Are you thankful for them?

Your thoughts become your words,
Your words become your actions,

I love making seeds sprout. This one is a favorite habit which makes hubby look worried.I even stare at weeds regularly to see whether they turn into a magical Faraway tree. There’s no harm in wishing right?
Plus some weeds are so pretty that I can’t bear to pull them up till hubby threatens with dire consequences. There’s a saying.
Thankful Thursdays my favourite quote
[bctt tweet=””One man’s weed is another man’s flower.”-Gloria Naylor, Bailey’s Cafe” username=”misra_amrita”]
When I put seeds in my DIY nursery for sprouting, they need as much care as newborn babies. If you have cared for saplings you will know what I am talking about.Being a mommy and mother to my plants have taught me patience like nothing else.
I am repetitive and persistent. It’s funny for someone watching as an observer Not funny when you are at the receiving end. sometimes but ask my hubby. Not so funny when I want something urgently.I persist till I am embedded in your brain.
I am a curious cat
Itโs uncanny how much fun I have knowing how things work, how to do stuff and the cause and effect timeline. That’sย why I started blogging.Really wanted to know what makes it work. It’s going to be three years now. That’s how long it took me to get my PG degree too.Whatever I have learned is because I loved learning itself. This thirst for knowledge,(read plain old curiosity and not minding my own business) did get me into troubles when I saw too much or heard too much. But it makes life a lot of fun!
Habits, quirks define us.They are the spices in the chutney of life.Without them, you would be right off the assembly line and no one would know what makes you special.
That’s why on #ThankfulThursdays we are celebrating and thanking the universe, for our funny habits which make us special.
The prompt this weekย

It has pretty bell-shaped yellow flowers.Perfect oval, jewel green leaves with a waxy texture. It’s a climber and one of my favorite plants in my balcony garden.
It’s also one of the first plants I bought. The water and nutrition need of the plant is less and is very easy to care for.

If you wish to make anything grow, you must understand it and understand it in a very real sense. ‘Green fingers’ are a fact, and a mystery only to the unpracticed. But green fingers are the extensions of a verdant heart.โ
