I don’t have a brother. I do have cousins. That’s why Rakhi while growing up was not something I thought a great deal about. But my sister who is six years younger wanted to celebrate all festivals. She insisted that since we looked out for each other we should tie Rakhi to each other Raksha Bandhan is just that. Right?
Easy Fun Rakhi Lettering for card
Protecting, looking out, and helping each other out. Isn’t that what the spirit of Rakhi all about?
My little girl celebrates Rakhi at school, with loads of fun and little idea about Raksha Bandhan .i did try to explain to her today morning when she got ready for school. She was more interested in learning how to tie it, than why and whom of it.
She has 3 cousin brothers who are not close. So if I do make a point about Raksha Bandhan she will not really understand. I am in two minds.
In the epic Mahabharat, Draupadi tied a Rakhi on Krishna. That’s why taking His name Draupadi always got protection.
Whether to make Rai feel her cousins are the brothers, or she would be better off, tying it to Krishnaand make God her protector.Any tips on this?

I believe the only reason I even try to be wonder woman , is because I have Super Daddy helping me.Otherwise, after 15 years of Medical education, I would have a hard time managing home and work .Not mentioning blogging here because writing suddenly has a life of its own and has grown up to get itself done even in the middle of the madness.
This post was written a few years back but republished to celebrate Father’s Day.
My hubby is Daddy dear with a twist. He does everything mommy does, with less amount of irritation. But Mommy wins hands down, when it comes to cuddles and creative challenges.
Are all Dads superheroes? Believe it or not, till 5 years of age they are, at least if they are reasonable normal dads.
After that, the child will judge you by standards which are pretty high, so superhero status can get difficult.
What makes a superhero Daddy?
I think men who can feel, make superhero daddies .They are those who can love. They are not afraid of nappy changes, who never stop being their partners best friends make superhero daddies.Men who love their wives and can rise above their Y chromosome’s, hunter-gatherer mode, can become super daddy.
Behind every well-behaved, kind child,is a set of well-behaved kind parents.
Mommy and Daddy are the two parts of the universe. Both needs to be super material, to carry on the work of future building.
Daddy must be able to wipe tears and put back a smile.
Babysit with elan.
Help mommy potty train the little one.
Help with baby feeding.
Should help with teaching the child
Should not undermine mommies 100% veto power.
Should always love mommy and baby.
Should always be there when a bully needs taking care of.
Should always remember that mommy and baby are waiting at home and come home early in the evenings to play and give mommy a break!

No one likes to hear a baby crying. As a mother, you will always want to prevent it and give baby relief as quickly as possible. That’s why you need to know why colic happens and the first steps to prevent and give relief.
For baby’s colic pain remedy, Mother Sparsh has developed a Tummy Roll On, which is made up of the combination of different natural oils.
What does it contain?
It contains natural oils Hing Oil, Pudina Oil, Sonth Oil, Saunf Oil, and Sova Oil. The unique combination of 5 Oils helps ease stomach discomfort. The benefit of Hing oil for colic is widely known The presence of fennel oil (Saunf Oil) in this roll on has anti-colic properties which help to reduce stomach bloating, gas and also helps the baby to burp.
Hing or asoefitida is an interesting ingredient in the Indian kitchen. Since ancient times in Indian households, in case of flatulence and distension of the stomach, asafoetida or Hing was dissolved in hot water and a pad of cloth steeped in it was used for fomenting over the abdomen(source). The gum resin and the hing oil has antispasmodic, carminative, laxative, and sedative effects. This method is cumbersome and that’s why the tummy roll-on is a boon and blessing. You can buy it on Amazon

Are you protecting your child? That’s what moms are supposed to do always.Right? But what if you cant? What if you are not there, then? How will you protect?”God made mothers because he couldn’t be everywhere.”Rudyard Kipling
But I do believe God is inside all of us. You need to look deep within. That’s my aim as a mommy. To teach my daughter to look for answers about good and bad inside own soul…I believe we all are born with deep insight and empathy. These two qualities can help you decide the right from wrong
Unfortunately, cybersafety and this decision of choosing right and wrong is difficult for small children. In fact difficult for adults too. Then should you give them the phone? Is stopping exposure the right sort of protection? I am a firm believer in prevention is the best cure.
[bctt tweet=”But what should you prevent the exposure or the reaction to it? #cybersecutity #MondayMommyMoments #drAmrita” username=”misra_amrita”]
I think you cannot protect against exposure until you shift to Antarctica. Not sure about internet connectivity there! So you need to teach mental defenses and behavioral skills to identify danger, dangerous people and dangerous links and media.
Too much screen time is anyways not recommended. But if you are honest, you do give your phone or tab when very busy right? That’s where a few things can help.Creative play with children to entertain them needs your participation and is a great way to keep children gadget free.
If its a school going child and child carries a phone, you don’t need to allow internet connectivity twenty-four seven. We survived without that, they will too. At home either have kids Youtube enabled or allow them to use Youtube linked to your account.Be careful that you have setting adjusted so that youtube will not show you inappropriate content.
Did you know even a few days back, videos by terror groups were freely aired on Youtube, as they garnered great views and had ads running? Imagine ! Only when the brands stepped back from allowing their ads to run next to terror videos that youtube pulled the plug.
Less than 18years children are not allowed facebook accounts and most social media accounts. It’s your job as a parent to check that.
No links or videos from unknown numbers should be opened. This should be a strict rule. Breaking will mean punishment.
Don’t share your child’s full frontal pictures and definitely never allow them to do that. For contests try giving a profile picture. That should work too.
Explain to your child that it’s never okay to take or upload inappropriate pictures on social media. Not own and not anybody else.Any friend or anyone who suggests that needs to be ignored. She should also let you know.
Teach them about videos or games which friends might want to show at school. Tell her she needs to come and discuss with you, you would like to know. If she feels embarrassed talking about it or afraid to tell you then she will know that it’s not the right kind of media she should be watching.
With smartphones everywhere and peer pressure being what it is until you can be our child’s confidante its difficult to protect.
Have a Total internet security on your phone and laptop everywhere. That’s important not just antivirus.
Do not download unknown apps and don’t allow apps to access the camera on a phone or laptop. You can adjust this in settings.
These can give me sleepless nights.I hope me talking to her every day will help. Also, this is one more battle you and me have to fight as mothers.I will be updating this post with more information soon.
If you are a mommy you will love wipes. If you are a doctor mommy, you will be obsessive about wipes. If reading labels was a mild habit before I became a mommy then now I am a certified professional now.
The interesting thing about labels is, even when they say something, you may understand something else. When we were in medical college, one of our teachers used to say, only if people washed their hands with water, many diseases could be avoided. That stuck my head. Several national guidelines mention using water only for cleaning babies nappy area. But when it comes to babies, it’s not just their bottoms that need cleaning. Babies can attract dust and dirt like a vacuum cleaner.
What will a mom do? Not let them play? Not let them be exposed to dirt? In India with the hot and humid climate in most places, this is difficult. It gets worse when they start coloring, painting, going to school. My daughter loves all kinds of artwork, and her hands get dirty with colors. Now in winters, I used to worry about excessive hand washing. So we made a simple system of always having wipes in hand and just getting the gunk off. Before meals wash well with soap and water.
But even then, I found two issues.
One of the popular wipes had a fragrance.
They left the hand dried out.
Some contained PEG in undisclosed amounts. When children are teething, this can be a problem.

7 Important things to know about Wipes for Baby
Alcohol-free doesn’t mean PEG free.PEG is technically a glycol, not alcohol. But if a product contains PEG they have to mention it.
For skin products, PEG can be used in concentrations up to 1% safely. Unfortunately, most products with PEG fails to mention the percentage on the packaging. Interestingly Johnson and Himalaya both list PEG in the ingredient list.
The fragrance is not a good thing.
Eco-friendly a biodegradable are words to note.
The European Commission recommends, that products containing harsh surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, should be avoided.
Wipes should contain pH buffers to maintain slight acidity(pH 5.5).
It should be free of irritants such as alcohol, fragrance, essential oils, soap, and harsh detergents (e.g., sodium lauryl sulfate); they should contain well‐tolerated preservatives.

Baby vaccination is a critical topic for anyone who’s expecting. Vaccination is important, even though some vaccinations are optional – there are ones that are mandatory in India.
There is no doubt that vaccination is a boon for humanity. It helps save millions of lives and has kept critical medical conditions at bay. However, there is a catch with vaccination – they must be administered with a precise schedule. Vaccination does bring many questions, and the immunization schedule is one of them. In this article, we will talk everything aboutbaby vaccination that you need to know.
It is a process of protecting from a certain disease. There are two ways to provide immunization – vaccination or naturally contracting a disease and then recovering from it. A vaccine when administered provides immunity against a disease. It can either be given through an injection or orally.
There are some vaccines which The Indian Government gives to everyone throughout the country in Immunization clinics.( BCG, Hepatitis B, OPV, IPV, DPT, Hib, Japanese Encephalitis, MR vaccine)
There are some which are yet to be implemented by The Government throughout the country but recommended by Indian Academy of Pediatrics as desirable vaccines for every child( Rotavirus vaccine, Pneumococcal vaccine, Typhoid vaccine, Hepatitis A vaccine, Chicken pox vaccine, MMR vaccine, Flu vaccine).
Revised National Immunization Schedule India 2022 2023
Bacillus Calmette-Guerin (BCG) vaccine is used against tuberculosis. It also prevents TB meningitis in children. Just like other vaccines, BCG contains a live attenuated culture of the Tuberculosis causing bacterium. It is in a weakened form. This means the disease-causing power of the bacteria is removed, but the antigenic property helps in triggering the immune system to get ready. This help protect the child from serious Tuberculosis infection in the future, but not from some of the manifestations of the disease.
Dosage – One dose through injection at birth
Vaccination:All that you want to know
IPV (Inactivated Polio Vaccine)
IPV vaccine is administered to prevent polio in the child, and it is a mandatory vaccine for all babies. An inactivated wild strain of poliovirus is given to children which leads to the production of antibodies. It is typically given with the DTP vaccine.
Dosage – Four doses of polio vaccine (IPV) intramuscular injection, though presently Government gives two doses of intradermal injections
OPV (Oral Polio Vaccine)
Oral Polio Vaccine is given orally (OPV). It is made up of an activated non-wild strain of the virus that produces antibodies within the body.
Dosage – Three doses of OPV
Hepatitis A
It protects against the Hepatitis A virus. Hepatitis A virus causes viral hepatitis and liver failure in children.Since this is easily spread through water and food ,protection is much needed.
Dosage – Two or one doses (depending on the type of vaccine).
Hepatitis B
Hepatitis B vaccine helps prevent liver diseases caused by the virus of the same name. The virus can cause liver diseases such as liver cancer, liver failure, and even death.
Dosage – Three or four doses of vaccine depending on schedule
It protects children against measles, mumps, and rubella.
Dosage – Two doses of vaccine
TCV (Typhoid)
Prevents typhoid which is a very common infection in India
Dosage – One dose of the conjugate vaccine of every 3 yearly dose of polysaccharide vaccine.
Why is Vaccination Mandatory?
Vaccination is mandatory because it is the best available method to prevent a deadly disease. It may hurt mothers to see their newborn undergo pain and it surely can ache their heart – however, vaccination is of critical importance to the baby’s health. It’s also important for long term protection against several conditions with very high mortality and life long disability.
Things to Remember During Vaccination
Always follow the recommended schedule and get your child vaccinated as due. Set up a reminder and try not to miss the date prescribed by the pediatrician.
Communicate with the pediatrician and be informed about what to do in situations such as fever diarrhea and cough. Vaccinations are typically not administered if a child has temperature or
After a dose of vaccine, your child may get a fever that can last for two days. If the fever doesn’t go in two days, see the pediatrician
Involving a couple of family members during vaccination can help distract the child and make the process easier.
Be informed about painless vs painful vaccine.
Conclusion
Vaccination is a boon and a marvel of medical sciences. It protects us from critical illnesses and increases life expectancy. Today, vaccination is mandatory across the world. If you are pregnant, it is essential to know all that you can about vaccination and its impact on your child. There are some optional vaccinations too that one should consider – especially in today’s world when infections are so prevalent.
