The brain is the most interesting and the most difficult organ to handle. When something like ADHD is diagnosed in a child, parents feel distraught. But don’t worry. With timely intervention, good results are possible. What you must understand is that ADHD has a complex relationship with childhood stressors . All present and future treatments need behavioral training, family therapy, and medication, with weight being given to all. Before you start medicines and expect things to get better quickly, you need to know a few things.

ADHD The Summary

ADHD is a spectrum of disorder. The earlier the diagnosis, better is the long-term quality of life. While some children with associated psychiatric and developmental challenges are at the deep end of the spectrum. Many children with behavioral therapy, family support, medication will lead a productive life.

#1 What is ADHD?

Attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder or ADHD is the most common neurobehavioral disorder of childhood. That’s the bad news. The good news is it is also the most extensively studied mental disorder of childhood.

Academic underachievement
Recurrent and persistent interpersonal relationship problems .
Issues of low self-esteem are very common.

#4 What are the symptoms of ADHD: when you should visit a doctor?

If any of the following are there for more than 6 months in a child and is causing challenges of development, social, emotional academic. The symptoms broadly fall into categories of inattention and hyperactivity.

Making careless mistakes, lacking attention to details. Not listening when spoken to directly. Not finishing activities and unable to follow through instructions. Disorganized.
Avoids activities needing sustained attention. Child misplaces things necessary for activities. Occasionally misplacing pencil or rubber is normal and not unusual in young children. Try to stop this habit by giving them a particular place to keep all their stuff next to the study table.
Hyperactivity involves excessive fidgety movements. The child is unable to indulge in quiet play. Talks excessively
Impulsivity: Not able to wait for a turn.Talks in between others etc

ADHD is a challenge to diagnose in preschoolers because distractibility and inattention are often present at this age. Different categories of ADHD is diagnosed, depending on criteria and needs a trained pediatrician.

#5 What causes ADHD?

The causes are complex and multifactorial. It is often the net result of several associated and simultaneous factors influencing brain development. There is a strong genetic role in ADHD. There is also a correlation with reduced dopamine level in the brain as a causative factors.

Maternal factors

Birth complications such as toxemia, prolonged labor, complicated delivery.
Maternal drug use
Maternal smoking and alcohol use during pregnancy
Exposure to lead prenatal or postnatal.

Child factors

Food coloring and preservatives
Brain trauma
Abnormal brain structure on child increases the risk of ADHD

Family factors

Psychosocial family stressors may cause or exacerbate symptoms of ADHD.
Family stress
Abuse
Neglect
A close blood relative with ADHD, mood or anxiety disorders, learning disability, antisocial disorder, or alcohol or substance abuse.

#6 How will ADHD be diagnosed?

Diagnosis needs the opinion of a pediatrician, child psychiatrist, clinical psychologist. It involves detailed history, physical examination, lab test and interview with caregivers.

The doctor also screens for vision or hearing problems and test for elevated lead levels. The latter is more important when a child comes in children with some or all of the symptoms if these children are exposed to lead poisoning.There are no diagnostic tests available to identify ADHD in children at present.

#6 Treatment

Psychosocial Therapy/Behavioural therapy
Drugs
Family therapy.

The detailed treatment protocols are beyond the scope of this article but medication depends on main symptoms presented. Psychostimulant medications, including methylphenidate (Ritalin, Concerta, Metadate, Focalin, Daytrana)Amphetamine, and/or various amphetamine and dextroamphetamine preparations (Dexedrine, Adderall, Vyvanse).

While generally well-tolerated in most children, Adderall and Vyvanse side effects most commonly include a loss of appetite, stomach pain, irritability and difficulty falling asleep. A longer list of side effects does occur in some children, although the more serious ones are rare.

Most of the drugs will have some side effects, which will be explained by your doctor.

#7 Behavioural management alone will not be enough. It is also a long-term goal.

Once the diagnosis of ADHD has been established, the parents and children are educated about ADHD’s effect on learning, behavior, self-esteem, social skills, and family function. The doctor helps the family improve the child’s interpersonal relationships, study skills, and reduce disruptive behaviors.

#8 Untreated ADHD Risks

Increased risk-taking behaviors (sexual activity, delinquency, substance abuse)
Educational underachievement.
Employment difficulties.
Relationship difficulties.

#9 Prevention of ADHD

Parent training, training of caregivers and school teachers help in the early detection and treatment of ADHD. This has a big role to play in improving the quality of life in affected children. Early screening for Vision, Hearing and psychiatric problems will help in the effective treatment of children with ADHD. Long-term adverse effects of untreated and ineffectively treated children with ADHD is avoidable with early intervention. Detection of elevated lead levels in children who present with the symptoms is a part of the diagnostic arsenal.

Also if you are a young woman reading this and you want to be a mom later in life, you may want to avoid drugs, cigarettes, and alcohol. A future human’s quality of life may depend on it.

Google likes fresh content.But what with writing , researching getting images tailored for the log and sharing on social media writing every day can seem difficult if not downright impossible.

That’s why most big websites have an option of guest posting .Guest posting on sites with good domain authority will help you improve your site’s value in Google eye.

How does that happen?

Generally guest posts are allowed one link in their author bio .This link is to their blog and may be to their twitter handle .

So that’s great right ?

Yes , it’s great .But the main problem is people get into two minds about guest posting .

Shouldn’t they write to increase their own blogs content ?

Yes you should .But in early days of your blog your traffic and regular readers may not be enough to do justice to your content.That’s when guest posting on authority sites help .

What do you look for when you guest post?

What’s the DA of the site ?Check ahref .It should definitely be better than yours .Previously alexa was a big deal.But nowadays its importance is being re evaluated .But still definitely look at the Alexa of the site you want to guest post at.

Whether the blog is in my niche?

Is my audience here ?

Check buzzsumo for most shared content for that blog.You will get an idea what kind of topic does well there.

Just type the title in the search bar and see what Google throws up .

Then read through at least some of the posts to see whether your guest post is inspired or churned?

Sometimes the plagiarism checker can’t tell if the language is changed keeping the content same.Believe me these things happen.It has happened with me!Professional churners know exactly what to do.

Also some people may offer you authorship and money for guest posting on your site .Again it may look lucrative but don’t forget to check.Why would someone guest post and give you authorship ?

What interested me is this woman managed blogging and actually had written an Amazon bestseller .

How awesome is that.A blogger ,a published author ,managing home, life and writing with equal elan.

So when I got a chance to peek into the life of this amazing woman,I thanked my stars.

Inaugurating my 2017 blogging journey series with Preethi Venugopala.

Tell me the back-story behind your blog

I began blogging in June 2013. It began as a platform to display my art: my acrylic paintings, sketches and digital painting. Writing was always on the back burner initially. Nowadays, art is on the back burner as writing has become my top priority.

Who is your target audience?

I focus on fiction, writing tips and self-help in my blog posts. So all those interested to read about these topics can find enough matter on my blog.

How many blogs do you manage?

I have three blogs to be accurate. But I regularly update only one. I created a blog for my husband who wanted to begin blogging. On the other one, I blog in my mother tongue Malayalam where I have attempted to translate a few chapters from my debut novel.

Best blog design tips from your experience

I like to keep my blog user-friendly and simple. Simple dark fonts on light backgrounds works best for me. Too many widgets also just don’t seem professional.

How do you manage family, work, and personal care? Give us your best time management tips.

Organizing and prioritizing helps. Not everything on your to-do list needs to be ticked off in the evening. I follow my intuition mostly. I do the thing that gives me a feeling of accomplishment rather than being just an easy item on my list.

What are the five Best blogging practices?

I think I am not the right person to answer that question, as I am not a very good blogger these days. But I think posting regularly, being honest in your posts, replying to comments and blog hopping are the most important practices that any blogger should follow.

Which email service do you use? Why do you like them?

Gmail. They are very user-friendly and as it is from Google the ID comes handy for many things.
Give us your top five ways of making money from your blog.

Which one is your favorite and why?

Bloggers can make money from their blogs through many ways. Some of them are writing paid reviews, posting sponsored listicles, interviews, sponsored posts, and advertisements. My favorite one is through sponsored posts. If the brand appeals to you, you can easily write a good post and earn from it as well.

Do you have any products? What’s special about them?

My books are my products. They will leave you with a feel good feeling when you turn the last page. It is all about positivity and love.

Tell me the story of your book getting published.

Writing happened by accident. The story came to me in a dream and in the morning, I noted down the names of the characters and the key incidents in my diary. Then I wrote it all down in a notebook. After the handwritten first draft, I typed it all out in a word document fleshing out the story further. After that, I found a few beta readers, editors and finally a publisher who gave my book the form it has today.

What resources would you recommend for getting own book published for budding authors?

Developing a disciplined writing practice is the most important thing to do for any budding author. There are many websites that can guide you towards accomplishing your writing goals.

Give me your best tips &message for struggling Bloggers

Just persevere. Don’t give up at any stage. I treat my blog as my writing workbook. You might find errors when I first post a blog post, as most are results of free-writing exercises. But I do go back and edit whenever I get time. It is not about perfection. It is about just showing up consistently and blogging. Some posts might get read more than others. It doesn’t matter. You grow as a writer with each word you write. Also join blogging platforms like Indiblogger and Blogadda.

I want to be a much-loved writer known for my light yet uplifting stories.

Are you involved in any charitable causes?

I do what I can through my writing. I was associated with the Do right campaign by Tata on Indiblogger and was able to donate my winning money of 20K to the Tirupur school of the deaf in Tamilnadu. I have also written for the AkshayaPatra campaign as part of Blogadda. Every post I wrote, fed a child for a year. I made sure I wrote the maximum number of posts allowed.

Tell us a little bit about your family. Who is your biggest support?

I am blessed to be born in a family, which venerates creativity. My husband supports me most in all my creative ventures. My brother and sister are the other two pillars of support. My mother is my inspiration and my late father is my inner voice. My son is my happiness.
