If you are planning on starting a business, you are selling something, and want to do marketing the non-sleazy way, you must read this.I have written about 25 Digital Marketing Tips which have helped me. You can read them here.
Marketing Mantras in This is Marketing
Marketing is your chance to spread the word about you. Your blog, writing, content, art, biz your fantastic product.
It’s best if your product is excellent or at least you believe it is You understand about value creation through your work and biz, you must read this.
If you are confused about brand marketing and direct marketing, read this book. If you like selling anything for a quick buck, this book’s message may not be what you want.
Brand building through marketing is like a story. It should flow. Your service and products should be aligned with this message.
Planning a marketing strategy, involves what you want to be done as the driving force behind the plan. It’s different for different types of marketing. Before spending money on ads, know what you want.
The cover is quirky with the right font. The bright orange background grabs attention. Seth Godin’s head in the O gives the book the right touch of light-heartedness. It calls out to a reader like me who is just incidentally learning marketing.
The writing style is crisp, easy to understand, plenty of real-life examples for you to grasp ideas.
My takeaway
Marketing is not sleazy, but some marketers may be sleazy. There lies the problem which no book can solve.
I need not bang my head to attract everyone to be my reader. I should write so that my message reaches the people who care about research and authority backed health and wellness information. Does the book deliver on its promise? Yes, and much more. I am a doctor, and marketing myself or my brand /blog did give me queasiness.
But Seth says if you don’t spread the word about my blog, then those with no expertise doing a better job at marketing are whom your audience will find. In the absence of your presence, they will get info from this source.
This doesn’t help society, and there is distrust for that group of service providers. If you are online or offline, if you have a fantastic service product or brand to promote, then you owe it to yourself to let the world know. Did you read the book?
