Jungle Garden: Earth Day Gift from me to you

Now if you are a new balcony gardener then having a jungle garden is not what you want.But if you have been gardening for a year or so and have several plants, have you thought of going a step forward?

But what is a jungle garden?

A garden which is allowed to grow naturally with each plant serving a useful purpose.Carefully careless,a green paradise and a productive space too.

If gardens are well organized,jungles are not so.But why would you want a jungle?And why you shouldn’t.

First I will tell you why you shouldn’t

  1. You don’t want birds visiting
  2. You don’t like butterflies
  3. You hate all sorts of insects and creepy crawlies(this makes being a gardener challenging not impossible.)
  4. You don’t actually like taking care of the garden,you have people who do this (they will run away)
  5. You don’t want  plants to cause extra work.

Why would you want your own jungle garden?

With the COVID situation see sawing ,we are seeing hope as well as trouble.This makes having a long term vision essential.

Getting back our Green lungs is important in more ways than one.

You want to have your own green oasis to keep your moods boosted.The probiotics that nature produces are naturally mood boosters.The balcony jungle helps create an ecosystem to not only purify the indoor air,but also improve wellness.


The plants also are happier grouped with their friends. But having a jungle in your balcony could ge troublesome, if not managed well.It needs regular pruning,and taking care of.But the green curtain is well worth it .On my journey to explore creating a balcony jungle my husband decided to restore their ancestral property.

The village home:Before

This Pandemic project started in October and with apprehension we got the work done .Luckily in the villages the COVID situation was absent.Mostly because of the isolation and the sparse population.

Whatever the reason we felt lucky and started planning the garden.What to plant and how to plant?


We are starting with a few fruit trees.We planted banana,litchi,guava,jamrul,jamun,peppercorn,Bayleaf,ridged gourds,Indian black berry,bitter Gourd,Okra and many flowers.

Through many ups and downs the mango orchard in the family was saved.Thats reason to celebrate in these times,when we are all more or less stuck in location .Travel options are limited and full of stress.Thats when weekend travel to the village puts the smile back on our face and the zing in our steps.

Creative Self-publishing :Help for Authors!

Whenever you put your work up for the world to read, review, critique, it’s a risk. So is stepping out of the house. But you still do.it right?

The biggest problem of publishing is Self-doubt. When I wrote my first Ebook with Blogchatter A to Z, I was confused. Why do I even want to try something like that? My husband is a friend. He insisted I do it because it was a helpful book. I still had doubts. Ignoring some negativity, plenty of Self-doubts, and my favorite imposter syndrome, I published.

So you want to self-publish a book? Are the logistics making you crazy? What if I tell you that you can test the waters with free resources?
Sharing my writing journey from health, to wellness, creativity, and back to writing seems like a full circle. But I now have several branches too. Wait till I tell you about them.

There has been no looking back after I fell through the looking glass into the world of writing. It was the summer of 2017 when I published my first book on KDP. Fruits for Life from the Nutrition Secrets series. Since then I have published f more books in this series. I started the Wellness Series (1)Blogging Secrets Series (2books)And in 2020 during my Pandemic Project The Krishna Mishra Mystery series (3 books).


This is not a listicle of my books but an important part of my creative journey.

I started with using Free software like Word, Grammarly, Canva. All have Perma-free versions with options to upgrade.

Microsoft word helps you edit, check basic grammar, format, insert a Table of content. The best part is the read-aloud function, which helps you catch problems with writing flow and grammar much quicker when you are self-editing.

The free version of Grammarly is perfect for checking the most basic grammar functions, up to a certain word limit.For plagiarism checking, you need a premium subscription. This is important when you write nonfiction and that involves research.

Canva is perfect for creating your book covers. The best part is their Resize option to create multimedia promotion material of different sizes for different platforms. It’s easy effortless and no headbanging while running out of time. I like sharing what I know. I was helped and still get help from all over the world on my quest to learn new art forms The least I can do is share what I know.

PandemicProject with mmhmm App : Art for Soul

When I started testing the mmhmmapp beta version, I was skeptical. I don’t really like the moving head in fake background images. Neither did I like Zooms inbuilt backgrounds. But mmhmm gives you lots of flexibility and their range of rooms are way better than zooms integrated ones.

Now onto what’s the Pandemic Project and what did I do. Officially and unofficially Covid Pandemic continues.The vaccines and testing have given us more ammunition to fight it. But it’s no fun being stuck in a problem.

The weird thing about problems is no one likes them, but they always help us grow in strange ways.I read somewhere that we should all be like water.Unstoppable.Your direction may change but always flowing. This thought of mine doesn’t come easily. The book by Natalie Goldberg Living Color helped me understand that some work we do in our own soul to get into Flow.The rest happens because its meant to be.Life for everyone is difficult .Some mopre so that others .All our blessings are because of who you are and what you do.Its a sum total of choices of this life and (dare I say it?) the ones before.So keep being amazing and know that your voice and work matters.


So TLDR I started drawing and painting. Some I did following online art tutorials, the try its and inspired arts and some I tried to innovate. The biggest help for this was creators like Thea. ong on Tangi who so generously shares her creative work that gratitude is something I feel every moment.

When mmhmm told us to share our #PandemicProject I decided to be brave and talk about my artwork. It’s easy to get bogged down by imposter syndrome. But when I got paid for my artwork on Tangi, a bulb flashed somewhere in my brain. It was a wow moment when I realized everything that a creator creates has value. The important part is the platform, the support, and the environment. Social media with all its ups and downs has plenty of benefits too. The ability to learn in real-time from artists all over the world is fun and extraordinarily exciting. On one hand, the Pandemic has changed the direction of our life, it has also helped germinate ideas which I never knew lived in my mind.

Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma:Symptoms and Treatment

Recurrent intractable nasal bleeding in adolescent young boys is often a slam dunk .As a PG student ,our teachers told us to always rule out JNA or Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma .A mouthful to say and a handful(make it several hansful)to manage.One of the trickiest benign tumours affecting the nasopharynx.

Recurrent :It means repeatedly.

Intractable:Doesn’t stop .

Nasal bleeding:Blood comes out of the nose.

Juvenile:Occurs in adolescent males.

Nasopharyngeal:Is mainly originating in Nasopharynx (area of pharynx adjacent to posterior part of nose(.

Angiofibroma:Contains blood vessels(angio) and fibrous tissue.The tumour has variable composition of angio or vascular component and fibromuscular component.The more of the former, more it will bleed .

Significant problem:The blood vessels in the tumour have a single endothelial layer and lack muscular layer .They thus can’t constrict like normal blood vessels in the rest of the body.That’s the reason for intractable or continued bleeding which needs Nasal packing.

JNA or Juvenile Nasopharyngeal Angiofibroma is a benign tumor starting in the Pterygopalatine Fossa (a region at the base of the skull) which gradually increases in size to fill the nose, pharynx and the the maxillary sinus.


Surgery is quite extensive and needs specialized set up.Investigation needs CECT PNS as a basic first.Coagulation profile is a must before surgery.
Blood transfusion may be needed before ,during and after surgery.


The problem of JNA is its chance of recurring .Even with the best surgery the pseudopod like extensions into the bones make this a challenge. There’s even options for embolizing the tumour,to prevent excessive bleeding.


The recurrent Nasal bleeding can also occur in people with leukemia, blood dyscrasias and those with coagulation problems The age gender, history ,clinical examination and tests help rule out the other causes.

The classic J and J fragrance is really their USP. Still, as we know, any artificial fragrance is not recommended in baby products. It’s a choice that, as a mom, you have to make. The price range is competitive, and it’s readily available online and offline all over the world.

Cetaphil Baby Cream

Baby Soothe & Protect Cream with Allantoin Skin Protectant is a cream whose name is a household favorite all over the globe. Their USP is their product which is free of paraben, mineral oil, petroleum-free and is clinically tested for use on baby skin.

Softsens Baby Moisturizing Cream

This brand is one of the newer entrants and has the goodness of shea butter and milk protein in this baby cream. It is non-sticky and gentle on the baby’s skin. It’s free from parabens, SLS, SLES, Sulfates, Phthalates. But it does contain PEG 100 and alcohol which many moms may wish to avoid.

Sebamed Baby Cream

It’s made in Germany and is a reputed International brand having an entire range of quality Baby care products; Sebamed Baby care cream has clinically proven barrier function, nonirritant, and has almost no allergic reaction. Its ingredients include:
· Water(Aqua)
· Mineral oil
· Petrolatum(petroleum jelly)

Other ingredients are-Aloe vera, Glycerin, Vitamin E, Shea butter, Almond oil, Rice bran oil, Turmeric oil, Dimethicone, Light liquid paraffin. The cream absorbs well and does the job. But the liquid paraffin is not an ingredient I feel comfortable with.

Aveeno Baby Eczema Therapy Moisturizing Cream

This is used for dry, irritated skin prone to eczema. It is dermatologically recommended. It’s free of parabens, phthalates.
Ingredient list:
Oat kernel, oat flour: Ingredients I love,
Other constituents are- glycerin, mineral oil, sodium benzoate, acrylates, cetyl alcohol, coco glucoside, and many more chemicals. I wish Aveeno would re-evaluate the not so lovely ingredients and make it even better.

What to avoid in baby care products?

Avoiding products with parabens, Mineral Oil & Synthetic Colors, artificial fragrances, SLS, Sulphates, and their derivatives as far as possible is a good first step.
You should also not use any adult products on baby skin.
Checking the expiry date of baby creams before applying them is crucial.

Which cream is best for a baby’s face?

Creams that contain baby-safe, eco-friendly products are best for a baby’s face. Creams without parabens, mineral oil, synthetic dyes, alcohol-containing products, or Sodium Laureth sulfate. There can be no blanket recommendation because every baby is unique, and so is their skin. Before using and baby care products, don’t forget to do a patch test on your skin.

How to do a patch test?

Apply the product on the soft inner skin of the forearm next to the elbow. The skin should be clean and free from any irritation, abrasion, or lesion. Keep a watch on the area for forty-eight hours. Check for redness, itching, or any other skin changes. Usually, absence of such a reaction denotes the product is safe to use.

14 Balcony Garden (Easy) Plants to Grow in India

When I shifted to a small town around 2920 days back, I was stressed, overworked, scatterbrained, and my only hobby was reading.


It’s a survival skill when you are a new mom.But then becoming a mom makes you want to put down roots.
In India, balcony gardening is not a new concept. Most people who have a balcony have small gardens.


But me growing up, didn’t really have a garden. We had a backyard with a big jackfruit tree. That’s it. Since the backyard was paved plus prone to waterlogging, my mom was not inclined to try containers.
She was right. Gardening indoor or outdoor or for that matter hobbies should relax you. They shouldn’t be a source of stress.


If the caregiving for many plants is difficult, start with only one.
If you are not sure about regular watering or prone to forget, try a system like Pindfresh or have plants like dessert rose or sturdy aloe Vera or other succulents which don’t need water.


Even mother- in-laws tongue/snake plant survives well without
regular watering.
So what do you need to start a balcony garden?Just a wish and some jugaad.

Now the pot.
Get a few burnt brick terracotta pots and metallic planters or ceramic ones few sizes larger.

The smaller terracotta pots will help you repot easily when the plant grows.
With plastic pots, that’s a problem.
Keep the pot in a well-lighted, ventilated part of your balcony.
Check the soil before watering.
If you dip your finger about an inch into the soil from the top of the pot, it should be moist, not dry and not super wet.
When you water, do gently taking care to water until the water runs out of the tap.
Keep the metal container or a plate below the pot when you water and reuse it to water other plants or in the loo.

Try to use kitchen water for watering plants for environmental reasons.
I use water from washing rice, dal, fruits, veggies, fir watering plants. The Aquarium water is diluted to water the plants too.I buy most stuff from my local nursery.

Now, this is not just a balcony gardening post, but how we renovated our village home. How the kitchen garden is taking shape and what’s being planted in the front yard.Once upon a time, I wished for a garden, and now I have several parks. On my balcony, on my windows, indoors, and one set in the middle of a mango orchard.
