The best thing about India? There are so many reasons to be thankful for Independent India.
India is the country of hope. It’s the country of opportunity. It’s a country where the ancient practices of yoga and Ayurveda are discussed along with the latest in medical science. It’s a country where people come to find peace.
But peace is inside you. It’s not a place or thing. It’s not a person who can give you peace. Only you can. This understanding came to me when I started reading Gita. The adventures the Hindu mythology offers for the fertile mind is unmatched in other scriptures.
It’s a country of diversity. It’s a country with myriad colors and beautiful nature. It’s a country which lost its way and is trying to find it back.
It’s a country whose social fabric makes family important. It’s a country which made it possible for me to be a doctor. Expenses of Rupees 250 per year.Books I bought second-hand my mama (maternal uncle helped ) helped.
It’s a country where people everyday struggle to make ends meet and still celebrate all festivals. It’s a country with many promises which only we can keep. It’s a country which had termites eating it from inside, but now things are getting better,
It’s a country where we once believed in see no evil, harm no evil and speak no evil. Unfortunately, we need a new saying!
It’s a country of Satyameva Jayate. The truth alone triumphs. I have long discussions about truth and the relative merits of it with my hubby.
It’s also a country where we believe Lord Krishna said that
The truth which hurts is worse than the falsehood which heals.
It’s a country where Vivekananda said there’s no worship, greater than the worship of humanity.
It’s a country where we got rid of child marriage. Where Raja Ram Mohan Roy stopped sati and paved the way for widow remarriage.
It’s the country where Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose left Congress when he did not believe in what they wanted for India. A chapter of history very cleverly whitewashed!
It’s a country trapped between good and evil. It’s a country struggling to balance the old with the young. It’s a country trying to keep its history intact and carve a better future. It’s a country which wants its citizens to believe in secularism. It’s a country which wants you to be proud of the national song and national anthem. It’s a country where little girls dare to dream. It’s a country which gave me the chance to have a concurrent second career as an author and a blogger.
It’s a country where I can die for.

I love my country too and am really proud and privileged to be born here. You have captured my sentiments exactly! I actually feel goosebumps when I sing the national anthem and see our flag fluttering high. As for the Republic Day parade, I begin to cry when I see the Award Distribution ceremony. Truly we are lucky to be Indian

There are so many things which make us proud of our country. India and its achievements are great.
Being half Indian (my mom is Indian) I have always loved the Indian culture. I’ve never been to India, but think that it would be fascinating to visit. I’ve learned a lot about the Indian culture through my mom’s family, and enjoy many of the delicious foods too. Although I grew up in Holland, Europe, I love reading about my roots and learning more each day. Love that you are a strong, educated Indian woman yourself. So inspiring!

That quote from Lord Krishna hits home. The truth that hurts is worse that the falsehood with heals. My marriage had to confront that truth all too often.

Our Motherland is rich by its tradition and values. I am proud to be an Indian.
An anecdote that I remembered after reading this post – An expat friend once commented when we had taken our children to the park, “Only here have I seen all adults coming to the rescue of one child in distress in a garden and not waiting to check if the child is accompanied by an adult or what is that adult doing.”

There are a lot of good things in this country I proudly call home, but many who have left it seem to forget those good things, and instead, focus on what isn’t good or compare those with the way things are in the place they stay. It’s good to remind ourselves about home at times.

I so loved your post! Going to share this with cousins of mine, with whom i end up arguing on betterment of our country. The only question they have is why do u want to stay there? come over here(US/Europe) its well developed with all the facilities u can think of. My answer always would be it might have everything but it is not my HOME. I don’t feel like home anywhere else in the world. That is not the soil where i was born and brought up.
