Do you remember the fun you had while listening  to fairy tales?
If you do then don’t forget to inspire your child to read more of them.
It helps them strategic thinking.
It teaches analysis of disastrous situations ,and turning them on their heads.
It helps them use their creativity. To give reign to their imagination.
Fairy tales are not just for children though.I read my stash of fairy tales, when I want to comfort my mind that all will be well.That good will rule.
They have the memories of innocence when we believed .
Maybe the problem now  lies there.In  not believing .
Maybe we are so diplomatic now , that we forget  what’s right and what’s wrong.
If moral compass needs resetting ,a dose of fairytale is a painless way to do it.
But why would you believe me.
I am a fairytale loving ,mommy who also believes in magic.
But I am also a doctor and fairy tales help me beat stress.

16 Secret Study Tips from a Bookworm Doctor Mommy #MMM56

My daughter is going to be six.So we don’t have exam schedules yet.What we do have is daily schedules.I always believed that learning is fun if done right.That’s my experience.

I hated pre-exam revisions.

It is boring reading from the same book over and over again.But unfortunately, we have to read the textbook.

Thats when I learned a trick!

I used to try learning about a particular topic from different books.Not only the textbook but similar books.I went through several such workbooks and tutorial resource throughout the year.But I always dedicated some time every day for revising my textbook.Which by the end of the year ended up color-coded, bookmarked, washi taped, Sticky noted and covered with pretty floral covers.

Ye, I loved decorating my books which didn’t need the obligatory brown paper cover!

I sincerely believed that the love I felt for my books was reflected back.I have an interesting capacity for speed reading and finding stuff which needs to be remembered.

Thats one habit you must develop too if you want to do well in exams.Speed read during revision.

Quick Super Exam Tips

  • Mark the topics you keep forgetting.
  • The topics you seem to make the most mistakes with.
  • The topics which make you bored.

They are the ones which will trip you.

Make a list, notes, diagrams with labels.Then stick them using double-sided foam tapes.

  • Make pretty charts and stick them at the front of your notebooks.
  • Next to your wash basin.
  • Your bedroom mirror anywhere it will catch your eye.

On the books, I didn’t like so much I wrote: ” I love you “!Guess what ?the subject replied “I love you too” and I did well!

My 5 point checklist to do well 

1)If you are a science student practice maths everyday.No excuses.Do as much as you can, but a minimum of one hour every day throughout the year.

2)Make a plan for revision:

  • For 3 weeks before exams.For the week before the exam.The day before a particular subject.
  • For your languages read books by good authors, to learn about how to make your writing flow easily.
  • Practice writing with a timer.

3) Always do mock test papers on a timer.I used to do a lot of mock tests.I solved the parts which were being done in the class.That way it was an interesting and quick way to solve many papers.

4)Talk to your seniors who have done well.This has helped me a lot too.

5)Never miss your practical classes.

6)Make small bulleted notes for quick memorizing for long topics.

7)It’s best if you divide an answer into broad headings and then jot down 3 to 5 important points.Teachers love well designed and well-written answers.The easier it is for your teacher to scan your answer the better scoring it is for you.Also, scannable answers often score more due to part marking.I know this because I am a teacher too!

8)Practice your diagrams regularly.Check for line diagram /flowcharts, graphs you can make to accompany your answers.Sometimes making a chart or a table at the beginning of an answer helps us write a detailed answer with very little trouble.

9)Never skip your meals or stay up awake before your exam.

10)Never discuss your paper with friends who insist on telling you all about why your answers are wrong.It’s better to discuss with your teacher or parents.

11)It’s better to memorize after understanding.

Memory is registration,retention,recall.Here are my 6 tips for a great memory.

  • In order for you to recall your subject in the stressful exam-hall, you need to read with total concentration.
  • Make it a mindfulness exercise.
  • Concentrate while reading.
  • Jot down the points, which struck you while reading, quickly in a notebook.
  • Then scan it once again.
  • Find the points you missed which are important.Write them down in red.Now understand.Your brain is sharing signals with each of its cells, neurons, and dendrites.Making connections for association and retention.The same little information may be stored as a picture, a sound a smell or a feeling It will depend on the topic under study though.Recall will be helped by all these senses.So always try to understand what your topic is talking about.

12)Eat, drink and sleep on time.

13)Read a good storybook for 15 minutes before going to bed.This is needed for your brain to unwind.

14)Your study room: Make it study friendly and clutter free

  • A powder blue room helps you focus.
  • A window view of plants, trees or a garden will help you be mindful.
  • If that’s not possible have a picture of trees or a calm green nature picture in front of you with a few potted plants.
  • Have your books arranged, subject wise.Write their names with permanent marker on the spine for easy retrieval.File your extra sheets with all notes in folders and reference books of the same topic segregated.The less you search for stuff during studying, more productive you will be.

15)Just having your tuition teacher visit you will not make you automatically proficient. You need to design your own study and revision schedule.

She is not insane.She writes like time has  stood still.And writes and writes .Every day without fail.
Like SEO,Traffic, Alexa ,sponsorship Monetization  nothing matters.What matters is pouring your heart and soul on being your best person ,so that your writing shines.
Mayura’s writing shines .A storyteller at heart ,she writes fiction and nonfiction,poetry and prose as easily  as a child laughs.

What made Mayura the  super woman ?What’s the  story ?

I belong to the Stone Age (so does my blog)

Hmm…Stone Age – the era when black and white, buffalo back televisions played only one channel, Doordarshan and later another channel was added to the list – DD Metro. We waited all week for the Sunday special treat, a movie that the family huddled together and watched.

Family outings, weekend picnics, long walks and holidays with grandparents was a normal way of life. We grew in a safe and secure world where our heroes were our parents and relatives.

Neighbours were part of the family and camaraderie was second nature. We didn’t need Facebook, Twitter, WhatsApp or any technology to remind us about birthdays, anniversaries and important occasions. We kept up with each other’s lives and stood by each other in times of crisis without expecting anything in return.

No mixer-grinder, microwave, mobile phone, dishwasher or washing machine. Mothers and grandmothers lovingly cooked all the meals and life was one big joint family. Evenings were full of loud squeals of kids who played with their mates till their moms dragged them home. The concept of tuitions was attached to ‘dumb’ kids. Schools took up the responsibility of coaching us for competitions and most of us ended up winning envious positions.

Life was simple and totally awesome. There was always time for everything. We caught up with our friends over a leisurely cup of chai. The highlight of this era is the amount of time we devoted to reading and discussion. Books landed up in our hands without any promotions. A recommendation from a friend or elder was enough for us to grab the book and read it from cover to cover.

My icons where Agatha Christie, Jane Austen, Carolyn Keene, Ruskin Bond, Enid Blyton, Anita Desai and Robin Cook, among others. Women’s magazines like Femina and Woman’s Era influenced our ideas on womanhood. Still other magazines like Stardust and Filmfare dished out filmy gossip. Our parents encouraged us to read the Times of India and Indian Express. Later, Mid-day became the afternoon paper where Marjorie Orr was a friend we met almost every day.

Quality content thus ruled our lives and we were open to healthy discussions over issues. Life was not about proving a point; it was about moving forward – together. We read almost everything – news, biographies, autobiographies, stories and poems. For us, genuine causes deserved to be spoken about and life hacks were passed down from the elder to our generation.

In promotional terminology, if you are looking for quality content that you can consume leisurely, this blog is for you. There is something in it for every one – interviews, parenting articles, tips and tricks, social causes, inspirational meetings, stories and poems.

At present, I have kept technology, health and sports for later as I would need expert contributors for the same.

What inspires you Mayura?

I am inspired by almost everything around me – people, incidents, the doorbell, the fan, my kids, colleagues, husband, parents, in-laws, neighbours – just everyone. There is something that each person has to offer. It depends on whether we want to receive or not.

My life is extremely busy and nothing dramatic happening. I draw inspiration from my daily routine as I firmly believe that life’s joy is in the little things. No point in waiting for something big to happen. Finding joy and motivation in life’s little things make us happier individuals.

What’s your vision with this blog?

I aim to put out quality content for my readers. I want to build a community of people who love reading and appreciate good writing. My blog should be the first thing they open every morning, just to check whether there is something that will touch their heart. Chai-time conversations around something they read on my blog is what I am looking at. Real sharing of thoughts, experiences and beliefs is what will keep this community growing.

When you have a child life literally  revolves around them.Whatever we do seems to be centred on them.
When Bushra Nausheen nominated me for the  3 day 3 Quote challenge I was lost. So many quotes .
Then I won the #Addatales.
It was fairytale. Now I wrote fiction once in a blue moon literally.This with a help from a friend was a big surprise.I realized this was a sign to say thank you.

My daughter listens to fairy tales at bedtimes.Not because Einstein told us .But because she loves them.
It helps her learn about the power of being good.
About the power of dreams.
About believing in prayers.
Above all believing in yourself.

But making them realize that the power is inside them.That their choices will make their life.
Fairytales teach us about happiness ,optimism and health.
It teaches children that people can choose to be good or bad.

Mompreneur’s blogging journey :Keyword hacks when you don’t have time(part 7)

Are you busy .Can’t get a grip of Google keywords.

I was in the same boat.When I started blogging my baby was 2 and a half year old and I was working full time.I read keywords are important.

 

I had used  Google keywords for a few of my posts.

But the problem was ,could I do it before every post?

For a mompreneur that’s impossible.

But the truth was I needed to learn  about keywords.

I wanted my readers to find me.

That’s when I researched and found out the hacks.

Read quicksprouts.com for details about all topics related to SEO and keywords.

It’s a favourite.

Now what worked for me.

Blogging is writing in vaccum

You need to give signals.

That’s your keywords. 

Where do you give signal?

At traffic lights .Right?

Your posts in your blog,social media specially Pinterest works great with keywords.

When someone searches for those or related keywords google sends them to you.

But google keywords takes time to get a hang of. Especially for busy moms

Don’t worry you will get it soon. Just keep at it.

Till then  I will tell you 5 hacks to make keywords quicker.

#Hack 1

First 3 Qs

  • Who are you writing for?

The audience persona.

Have an image in your head.

That makes your blog human.

  • Now what are your interests?

What do you write about?

Your blog should have around 10 to 15 quality posts which are your pillar contents. Write what you love otherwise it’s boring.

Make it valuable to your reader by

Making them happy: Fiction

Making them take action: nonfiction writers.

Then you start aiming for keywords  1 post at a time.

# Hack 2

Think of the topic you are writing about Write it.

Now think of a long sentence which a reader may search for the topic

Type that in the Google search box.

Don’t press enter .See what google is showing.These are gold.

Now Press enter.

Do it on your laptop.

Look at the top left corner.

It shows you the no.of search results.

Aim for 50000 to 50 lakh.

That’s a good number. You want this to be a popular enough topic without being difficult to rank for. Now, look at the bottom of the search result.

A box shows you a few, readers also searched for topics.

Related search keywords

Write these down.

Use it mixed in your primary  keyword.

Google ranks you higher when you use related terms.

#Hack 3

Does the page show ads?

That means it’s a popular topic.

#Hack 4 

Check their Alexa rank.

That will give you an idea about how easy will it be to outrank it.

#Hack 5 

Use Quora to see what readers are looking for.

Really useful for nonfiction.

Bonus tip

Use the Yoast SEO PLUGIN. But don’t cry if it’s not always green. You write for your audience and search engines will find you.
