Should you watch the Good Doctor? A twitter friend recommended this web series on Amazon prime and I must say, I enjoyed watching it.

With great challenges comes great inspiration and that’s why The Good Doctor, is a must-watch.

Brief Synopsis of the Good Doctor

The Good Doctor on Amazon prime video is an intriguing American medical drama series. It is inspired by the  2013 award-winning South Korean series. The American series stars Freddie Highmore as Shaun Murphy, a young autistic savant surgical resident at San Jose St. Bonaventure Hospital.

Dr.Shaun Murphy: Surgeon with Savant syndrome

Dr. Shaun is young, troubled, has Savant syndrome and gifted with extraordinary intelligence. He also wants to be a surgeon. Savant syndrome is a unique condition where along with serious mental challenges a person often has unique and extraordinary genius in some specific ways.

Uncaring, abusive parents, troubled childhood and Shaun and his brother ran away from home. Then his brother died and Shaun with the help of many foster parents and the extraordinary Dr. Glassman , mentor and neurosurgeon guide him. He reaches San Jose.

But will he be accepted as a surgical resident at St.Bonaventure?

Will he make it?

How will he cope?

Can Autism help him be a better doctor?

Will he learn from others will others learn from him?

Does hos condition give him unique insight?

Can he have relationships will he find.

All this and more in the first two seasons on Amazon Prime free

Season 3 is paid. At least for now.

Why I loved the Good Doctor

Even if you have never watched a medical drama you will enjoy Good doctor

It’s positive.

It’s inspiring.

It’s a lesson in patience and the power of persistence and hope.

It’s a look behind the scenes of what doctors and healthcare workers go through, every day. Good days, bad days and scary days.

It’s a look at how human beings cope in times of stress when thy must professional even when personal life may be falling apart,

How it’s always about what is in the patient’s best interest.

Dr. Shaun Murphy will make you a better person, by letting you walk in his shoes, while you watch this series on Amazon Prime.

Cons

Oversimplification of the challenges that Dr.Murphy faces.

A lot of real-life medico-legal implications are ignored with creative liberty.

In Conclusion

A must watch for its inspiring drama about medical life and the enduring human spirit.

Gaggal Airport/Kangra airport: One of the prettiest airports I have ever seen.  The airport has a beautiful Dhauladhar range as a picturesque backdrop.  The hotel was a mere 30 minutes’ drive away. Around 14km from the Divine Hima.  Good roads with the snow-capped peaks accompanying you

We booked the Pin Parvati pass suite at the Divine Hima.

The first day when we reached, it was already afternoon and we were tired after the super early morning.

A cute pair of boots overgrowing with greens greet you, together with auspicious imprints of Goddess Laxmi’s feet leading you into a quaint entryway.

A cool indoor stream with a variety of fishes swimming greets you inside.  The photographs clicked by the owner, his poetry makes you sit and think.

The early evening saw us watching mesmerized the Dhauladhar range, which is a part of the lesser Himalayas.  The setting sun shining off the top, birds chirping and the crisp cold air made us happy.  Sitting and sipping fragrant tea was how we spent our first evening at Dharamshala the tasty fish Amritsari and a quick dinner in the room, then an early bedtime was what happened the first night.  December means cold nights and the room heater was much welcome.

The next morning, we went down for breakfast which was included with our plan.  It was a set menu but the staff went out of the way to help us with food for my daughter just the way she liked it. Plus we met Mr. Sanjay Kumbhakar the owner. An ex Geologist and a creative artist his personality is reflected every nook and cranky of the boutique hotel.

Quick Hotel review The Divine Hima Dharamshala

The Divine Hima gives you all the home comforts with a five-star service. Beautiful rooms, great service, delicious food, and perfect location. The owner Mr.Sanjay Kumbkarni a Geologist has a fascinating collection of photographs and unique decor items gracing the hotel. His personal advice helped plan our sightseeing to a TThe staff are helpful and courteous. Sanjeev amongst the wait staff was very accommodating and ensured my child got her favorite breakfast item.

The car service by the hotel was extraordinarily pleasant and Mr.Sanju was there with us for three days of day trips in comfort. The hotel has a wide range in its menu and the veg thali (Kangra dhaam) is especially recommended. Loved the sizzling brownie too. The view from the Pin Parvati pass family suite is beautiful and the bird watching from the balcony is an added boon. The hotel is a five minutes walk from Norbulingka institute. Great stay celebrating the end of a decade traveling together.

We spent three days roaming in and around Dharamshala.  Stay tuned as I share videos, photos, memories food, the culture of this beautiful mountain destination.

As a child growing up in a regular Bengali Middle- class family, homecooked simple meals were always on the table.

No processed or fast food except maybe phucchka!

Then medical college came, and duty schedules and food habits all went for a toss.  What exactly was good food?  Someone surviving on frozen chicken had difficult answers coming up.  I suffered food poisoning not once, but at least four times in my adult life as a doctor and realized things needed changing.

I could hardly help people if I kept falling ill.

In 2008 we had traveled to Nainital, for a holiday with friends. I snacked the entire day. Then the inevitable happened. After a horrible bout of vomiting, I simply had no fun the entire evening. 

Lessons learned from that feeling you get after throwing up your entire days’ worth of favorites snacks, is not easy to forget.

Food habits are not easy to break.  Neither are new habits, easy to make.  But if you don’t make the change your body starts showing who is the boss.

That’s why I share my ways of avoiding Travel health and nutrition pitfalls. Things that work for me.

7 Stressfree ways to Eat right when you travel

When I travel I strictly ask for bottled water. Drink plenty of water as staying hydrated is important at all times.

Eat fresh and local as far as possible.

Skip antacids and PPI.  This prevents worms and bacteria from proliferating . The stomach acidity kills them and you have less chance of catching a bug!

Raw protein and cut fruits vegetables are risks you should avoid. 

Avoid eating late.

Walk run swim, trek don’t have an entirely passive holiday.  Those 40 minutes of walk is a must .

If you eat well and stay healthy you travel better.

Try more ala carte than buffet if possible, Avoids food wastage and overeating.

Eat right even when you travel.  Food exercise and health go hand in hand.  If you miss health while you travel, you will miss the fun of travel.

Taking Good deeds forwards

It’s important to always take good deeds forward.  That’s what makes blogging and digital platforms so fulfilling.  Every time you write and publish, you are helping someone in your own way.  This January, I am also sharing a few of my books to download for free, on Amazon.  Bookmark this page, so that you don’t miss out on the offers.

If you are a teacher, lawyer, Doctor, creative artist, writer,a professional with both qualifications and experience backing your learnings, you must write a book.  It’s never been easier. If you have used the internet to find information, research or decide about a purchase, you owe it yourself, to take this forward.

I have seen that professionals, always have unique insights. When you put that in a book, it makes your wisdom available for generations to come.

You can help train your employees and inspire your children.  It’s also a quick guide for all those who want to get started on a  similar journey.

This plan may not be for everyone. If you dabble in a lot of things, whether all your skills can come together in a narrative, will depend on how they have helped you. You can host it on your website and give it away to build your authority, grow your email list or just to do a good deed.

You could sell it on your site, Amazon and others.

You could approach a publisher and get it published or self-publish as a form of spreading the word about your business.

The best part about having a digital book is, you can update it with little headache.  You could provide links to your work and when shared it could reach more people than just the scope of your website.

When I was a medical student, the only teachers who discussed food and nutrition were our Pediatricians and community medicine teachers.

Sometimes they were interesting sometimes a drag. But what as a student I failed to appreciate, I understood deeply as a doctor.

Every time I wrote a prescription for someone the last question was, what should I eat, doctor? A simple question but with a deep significance.

If food, water, and shelter are basic necessities, it makes little sense, to not talk about food, nutrition, and healthy habits.

The right food has healing power. Nutrition myths can be dangerous. It’s much easier to assimilate and utilize nutrients from natural sources than just supplements. The reason behind it is complex and goes down to cellular levels.

But the problem of rapid urbanization and the economic drive, displacement, work culture, has made us eat the wrong sort of food, driving up the healthcare cost which is a fallout of poor nutrition & lifestyle. The sedentary lifestyle compounds this problem precipitating metabolic diseases . All the extra money earned goes to fund health insurance, gyms, and healthcare costs.

The problem of modern life is this nature disconnect and lack of balance between an urban and rural life. Overcrowded cities, fast food and faster health problems were something I realized early on. While Mr.Moneymustache has been a massive inspiration behind trying FIRE, trying to share info about food and health is the reason I write.

As India celebrates it’s Republic day on 26th January, I am sharing some of my books as gifts with all those who want to start being healthier now.

While habits do need at least 21 days of repetitions takes a lifetime to make a difference. Pin this blog post and bookmark it. Don’t miss out on these free books.

Indoor gardening, Hydroponics, and aquaponics are my favorite thing to research.

If you don’t know what they are let me tell you in brief.

Hydroponic has nutrient-rich water helping the roots absorb nutrients, while the plant grows. You don’t need soil, but a little bit of holding material.

Aquaponics: Its hydroponics with fish involved. The fish waste is used by the plants in the water, to grow. It’s a beautifully symbiotic relationship, where the plant roots clean and purifies the water where the fish live.

Aquaponics has fishes helping in growing plants. At my home, the aquarium water gets used as plant food. But hydroponics needs a setup and I don’t have working- with-power-tools skills. My husband does those stuff well. But he needs a good plan.

I, on the other hand, am forever planning. But I don’t want to kill the plant babies. This had put me in sort of quandary. But there was good news.

2020 arrived bright and sunny and us being freshly back from Dharamshala,I was missing something. I went searching online, for hydroponic, easy to set up gardens. I loved what they were doing at Plantagon and wished I could have a home in a building like that. Then I found this on amazon.

The best thing about writing about food and nutrition is, you end up practicing all the good things you learn. That’s the only way to imbibe all the research and find a way to take it forward,

We live in a small town in India. While going back to nature takes a half-hour drive, its another matter growing your own food. Living in a rental means minimal structural changes possible. I grow a lot of flowers, indoor plants and plenty of Tulsi (basil in my balcony garden).

But growing veggies was always a problem I had some success with tomatoes lettuce, greens, even potatoes, bitter gourd and one stray year of homegrown strawberries. But the effort for making fruits and veggies meets its biggest problem with light, and right nutrient balance. I want to go organic but in pots, you need organic liquid fertilizer which is not easy to get locally.

I also want to recycle water.

Easy Ways I Save Water at Home 

I want it to be automated.

I also want to grow lights that work. A lot of wants, but no simple solution.

This meant my veggie journey had come down to a dream. Until I found a company online called Pindfresh.
