Did you know paper cups though called “paper cups” are lined with plastic or wax to seal them,so that liquid doesn’t spill?
We are using paper products lined with plastic which results in your body getting a dose of microplastic every time you drink out of them. What happens when they are disposed of?
Microplastic again. The solution is to use the Kulhar/Bhar, our desi disposable cups. Ecofriendly and pocket-friendly too.
10 Simple Ways to #BeatPlasticPollution
Say no to paper cups. Carry your own cup or use a desi kulhar/bhar.
Reuse those glass jars and don’t buy plastic ones. You can also paint them and make them pretty with labels. It’s the perfect summer project for the little ones.
Avoid buying plastic containers, cutleries even if they are a great deal like 100 pieces for 50 INR. As a new mom 10 years back I had done just that and when awareness struck,I never bought another one.
Skip tea bags, use a pretty tea strainer, maybe even a silver one to make tea drinking special. You can buy them from the Golden Tips shop in Darjeeling or even Glenarys if you are visiting soon. Or online from the Everything store. (You know which one right?)
Skip the confetti for parties. Use flowers instead. Pick those from your balcony garden, terrace garden, or regular garden, or buy them. Marigolds are perfect for this. Kids love helping get the petals loose to use as flower showers. Plus they smell great.
Don’t buy plastic straws and plastic stirrers. Straws are a problem to clean, that’s the reason disposable straws came into the picture. Avoid them as far as possible and let me know if you know about easy-to-clean options for metal or glass straws. I have a glass straw at home and it’s not the easiest thing to clean.
Don’t buy balloons. I know kids have fun with them but they end up being plastic waste too.Party decorations need to be ecofriendly since they are used for a short time and rarely reused.
Plastic bags are definitely a no.
Don’t go dump all your plastic items right away. Try to use, reuse, and upcycle them, as much as possible in nontoxic ways. If you throw out all the plastic stuff right away, it will just create a crisis now.So go slow with throwing away and stop and think before buying a plastic product.
Carry a reusable bottle of water while traveling. This is a no-brainer for most people. But it’s not an easy option and that’s where my story comes into the picture in this post.
Mother Earth existed before humans arrived on the scene. Mother Earth will exist after our time. When we talk about earth being on danger alert, it’s not just mother earth you are saving, it’s your life that you are saving.
Life on earth depends on the environment. Our life depends on an environment healthy for us. Human beings need a balanced internal and external environment to thrive.
When we don’t take care of the environment we are directly harming our health. Ask questions or read labels (if available) before buying things promoted as “eco-friendly”.
The theme for this World Environment Day is #BeatPlasticPollution.
While visiting Darjeeling this time for the summer holidays, we decided to accept the bottled RO water instead of ordering the plastic bottles of Bisleri. But the problem arrived in the form of stomach upsets and we spied fungal spores at the bottom of a glass drinking water bottle kept on the dining room table.
We decided to go with Bisleri packaged drinking water. During travel if the hotels and restaurants don’t ensure healthy clean drinking water beating plastic pollution is going to be an uphill battle.
But at the Musa Jungle Resort in Manas when we visited in March, we were filling up our water bottle from the Aquaguard water filter. No stomach upsets and we did our own refilling.
Last year in Sikkim too the hotel provided us with free filtered water and there was no trouble.
I am a doctor knowing all the diseases that poor drinking water can cause with immediate effect.I also know the problems plastic bottles will bring for our health and that of the earth.
When it comes to taking responsibility all the stakeholders, private citizens, public entities businesses and government can together make it easier for us to make responsible use of plastic possible.
This is our earth, our home we need to keep it clean and green.Writing this for #CauseAchatter with Blogchatter .
