Monday Mommy Moments 34:Creative birthday ideas for 5 year old

Children love birthday parties.Don’t we all?That’s why

Don’t we all?That’s why it is a rule in our family.Part is a must.Small or big is immaterial.Whats important is we must celebrate.Even when we want to cut down on costs, but want her to enjoy the simple things in life, we still have a party.For a five-year-old little girl, having friends over and eating cake is a party.That’s how simple some of her birthday party has been.

My little angels know all about real fun.That’s why arranging her birthday parties have been hassle free for me till date.Whenever I arrange a party it’s my struggle. I don’t want to be wasteful and I don’t want her to miss 0ut on all the fun things.The easiest way is to have a discussion with the little one in charge.She gives me a kiss and says

Mommy we just want to play on birthday .

Now I get stuck.I know her list also has some friends, whom she will end up ignoring in the company of her besties.So what we need are party games.When I want to make a birthday party fun I make it fun for the birthday girl!

Favourite party games for 5year olds

Pin the tail on the donkey.Always a favorite and gets loads of laughs
Mental maths .Short quick ones.
General knowledge quizzes.Keep in mind the age group of the little ones.Obviously with prizes!
Treasure hunts with clues.Always popular.I love to participate too.
Let them watch a favorite movie together, with popcorn is a wonderful way to keep the party under control and still fun.Then ask them questions from the movie they watched.

Food for 5-year-olds

Food and refreshments are strictly age appropriate .But chocolate cake is a universal favourite .But not too sweet My favourite , in fact, our favourite cake comes from #Cakes a shop with several branches all over Kolkata.Their southern Avenue shop is single handily responsible for my pregnancy weight gain.

The catering by 6 Ballygunj Place is superb, with an option for live grill station(which needs a watchful eye with kids around) but always fun.

Other options which keep flying inside my brain.

Outdoor party if you have a protected garden area or covered terrace.
Go away for a family trip.(My daughter will still need a birthday party when we come back.)
Visit those who need our help and have a party with them.I hope one day we will do this with Rai.

My brain is buzzing with ideas which you will read all about soon.But for now, I am late for getting my post published for #MondayMommyMoments.

Freedom from being judged as a mom is not easy.But it’s a secret wish that all moms have!

Are you going to have a career?SAHM or WAHM?Does it matter?All moms work.All the time.No pay, no leave nonstop worrying. Forever !What kind of people want to go through that?Moms do.We love our little bundle of joys

But that’s when the pain starts.The judgment.For moms, it’s Judgement day every day!

From the woman at the laundromat to your bank manager, everyone has an opinion on mothers and what they should do.Even your best friends and people who are otherwise normal will judge you.

We are judgmental humans.We like(need) people to conform. We don’t like different.Though we want to be.

We don’t like it when women do it all.Learn, work, have a family and want to do more.

We think it’s only people like Angelina Jolie or Madhuri Dixit with the money and the clout can manage it all.But for you, me and the ordinary woman it’s always going to be:

Do you stay at home?So you are not working!

Imagine a non-working mom.That species is non-existent.

You work?How do you manage?

With lots of help and hair tearing worry!

But why do you need to work?Your hubby doesn’t earn enough?

Why is it difficult to understand, that I want a career after studying my entire life?What exactly will I teach my girl?I am confused.Help me out here.

If We Were Having Coffee

If we were having coffee I would tell you my maid is back, after a two months break. The poor dear broke her wrist and was unable to work.

I interviewed one replacement. Her vibe was the type where I was afraid of being given gyaan every other day.
I and hubby are good at managing things even when all hell breaks loose. We may be average, but work gets done here. The focus is on healthy, no fuss tasty food,(air fryer is a big help), with as a little headache as possible.
The replacement maid was not going to be a little headache.

My balcony garden is blooming. Alamunda, bleeding heart, yellow and orange Ixora, pink Musanda, the chilies, all look happy.Birds or some other living being ate my baby watermelon!That made me sad .but then hubby said

That made me happy.
If we were having coffee I would tell you about one of my senior colleagues.A true gentleman and a helpful soul.He went from on-call at the hospital to the ICU battling for his life.Now diagnosed with a serious malignancy.I love my profession, it’s difficult to be a doctor otherwise.But the problem health care is facing is deep rooted.
In the mess of expectations and political lies, the truth of abysmal lack of human resources, drugs, expertise all becomes a khichdi.
Passing the baton of responsibility to the end service provider(in this case the doctor), shows the lack of goodwill and transparency, of the people in power.Oh yes, if we were having coffee, I would bore you with all this info too!

This is the season of Ilish, so if we were having coffee, I would tell you about the fresh fish delicacy I had for my lunch.

Today on my blog I am featuring Amy Lynn Andrews a mompreneur who inspires and helps.Why do I admire her?Why am I thankful that I found her blog two years back?I wouldn’t have come this far without all her help.

I have a long list.The first time I wrote about her was on my one year blogging anniversary when I was lucky to have her Knowtbook gifted to me.Till now its the most updated and easy to navigate blogging resource I use.

Why I adore Amy?

1)She walks the talk.

2)She tells us about making money and shows us how she does it with full disclaimers.

3)I have learned everything from her blog.Plus her blog has a woman’s voice, who knows all women don’t have the tech bone in their body.

Until I read her blog I was afraid of doing anything, except write on my blog.The ways she explains the backend nitty gritty of blogs, you will get rid of all your worries.

A Day in the Life of a Doctor Mommy with Crazy miracles

A day in my life is a Miracle.

The miracle that things get done.Beds get made food gets cooked, posts get written and hospital work gets done.All the while being mommy to my five-year-old angel.

I pray to God every day and thank him every night because:

My mommy taught me to cook and survival skills even though I resisted.
For giving me an amazing friend and life partner, with whom clearing out dust under the bed, becomes fun too!
For giving me an angel of a daughter. Who tells me to stop listening to my naughty brain when I am creating a ruckus.By the way, she is five and I am not!

With introductions done, now about how things get done, let me give an overview.Don’t want you to think I am mad,but in our home we both juggle roles every day!

The mad schedule

Wake up in the morning together.
Breakfast is made and plants watered.We switch chores alternately.I get bored easily and can burn everything in the morning.
Get Rai’s Tiffin ready
Wake Rai up.Breakfast together.
Get Rai ready together.Often playing tag and with plenty of cuddles.
Off to school.Preschooler dropped off.
Four and a half hours at school.That’s the golden time span.

Go back home.Hubby to the hospital for his morning rounds.Get lunch ready while checking e-mail, reading and sharing on mobile while fish and rice gets cooked.I also check to see whether scheduled post got published.I try to focus on the task at hand in 10-minute parcels.
Make beds and put things in order while waiting for my friendly maid to turn up and help me along.
House work done.

Off to the hospital to log in, attendance with the Biometric nonhuman.
Fight my way through deodorant challenged humanity to reach the elevators.Trying to flash my ID at the same time.
Reach the 8th floor of my OPD to see teeming crowds standing
It never fails to surprise me how so many people have ENT problems.Greeting my juniors, who are the biggest help.Mad rush starts!

Some days it’s the cool interiors of the operation theatre.Those days I am happier.
After few hours at the OPD, indoor rounds or emergency surgery (depends on what the Gods have decided), it’s time to go home for lunch.I live 10 minutes away from the hospital. Perks of small town life.
Hubby has picked up Rai from school in the meanwhile and gives her lunch while I get the salad ready for ours.Lunch over and playtime starts with Daddy, while mommy goes to take an afternoon lecture class for undergraduates.This luckily is not on schedule every day.Sometimes hubby has a class too.When we can’t manage my sis in law baby sits Rai.Blessings !

Now the current healthcare scenario and mob mentality are making operation theatres breeding ground for stress.Who can predict the future with hundred percent accuracy?If you can, do apply for jobs at the hospital.Predictions before admission will make it easier.Maybe!

Come back home to tea and gup-shup.Thank God my cook is back after a 2 months break(she broke her wrist) and I can actually think and write.Otherwise, for last two months, I felt I was sleepwalking through chores and writing.On Tuesday’s like today, I am on call 24 hours.That means I am a bundle of nerves.This where my trusty treadmill and writing alone can help me calm down.Then it’s Daddy’s turn to go to the hospital.

We are both working and get things done because our duties are adjusted.We try to schedule duties so that one of us gets to be at home with Rai.In the evening she goes for her extra curricular activities and I get an hour to get exercising and write my post for the next day.

Everything else gets written after 9.30pm when Rai goes to bed.Off to bed at 11.30pm.

It’s a mad world and the only reason it works is God’s blessing, no commute troubles being a small town, flexible work hours, loads of sacrifices on both our parts and help from several people.

We have one objective in mind.Be there for each other and for the little angel, God has blessed us with.
