How to get your child to finish her homework? Is this question bothering you .Worry no more this week moms will share their views and help you do it stress free .
My daughter is only five. Her school homework are not labour intensive. What is difficult is to make her sit.
But we have a rule .Who ever is home in the afternoon with her ,sits and gets homework done.Till last year she used to nap.But school starting at 8 am makes early bedtime a must.In the evening play activity and a coloring books rule the roost.Studies get finished before the sun sets .
These tips are not only what I practice with my child but also the exact way my mom made my habit of studying .That’s like the past and present experience at the same time.I have seen they work over a long time.
So what are my tips for making my five years old be a good little girl? There’s prepping involved.
First what I do before homework time starts
After she comes home from school I listen to her chattering while I get her freshened up.I also have her lunch ready, so that she eats a nutritious meal to perk up her energy.
After her lunch, it’s one hour of playtime when we play hide and seek, jump rope, dance play guessing games.
Have fun when not studying is very important. The brain needs serious relaxation in-between concentration. So the more relaxed and entertained your child’s brain is the better she will learn.
Learning is made fun.The benefits are stressed not only through stories but by real life transactions. Then its time for a glass of milk. It’s after she has her milk that’s where settle down and get the homework done and some revising, to be on track with school work.
How to get your child to finish her homework: Tips from a mommy who studies
1)Homework gets done by the afternoon.Nothing gets left for the sun down. It’s not a good time for me or little one.I get busy with preparing dinner and prepping for the next day and she gets sleepy. When I am busy hubby gets it done. This one is non-negotiable.Discipline and habits are formed early. What we make her practice now will help her in the future. We can only help her form good life habits now.Rest is God’s will.
With study load increasing we will need to be flexible and plan more. But studying at one time every day helps make the child more likely to sit and do it even by themselves. On days when we can’t check she has learned to check for her own homework and comes and tell me or her father. Then we sit with her and get it done.
#TIP Same time every day
2)One of us always sits with her when it’s time to study, with our own books. It helps that we have our own classes to take and updates to read, The child has learned that studying is not a one off thing. But life long.At least that’s what I want to teach her.
We try to study together. She does hers I do mine
TIP2 Study together
3)Try to have a fixed place where there are no games toys or the phone lying around.Lack of distractions is important to get the little one learn quicker concentration
Also, have all books stationary with her when she sits down.No getting up and getting stuff every 2 minutes. These little angels are smart and they try everything to get you rattled.
TIP3 Fixed place
4)I make it a point that my daughter studies throughout the year and not just before exams. At her age, she doesn’t understand exams yet and we have every intention to let her be this way That way she will never stress it.She goes to school every day not only with her homework done but also after revision of previous days work. She enjoys getting appreciation from us and her teachers and that’s motivation for her to do well.
That way when we have sudden travel plans before her exams. It has happened many times but since she is up to date with we don’t stress it.
TIP 4: Don’t stress it.
5)We buy activity books and DIY creative ways of doing math science and languages.
The boredom factor which is very common in children is avoided by doing the same thing in different ways.I make it fun.Make it a game where the winners get to do something special. If she is older you can tell her to do her homework while you cook so that who comes first and work done well wins
TIP 5: Make it fun
How to get your child to finish her homework #MMM6)Rewards and Consequences.
Tell her what happens when we don’t do homework.Responsibility is hers and consequence she has to face. You can only help her and guide her, not do it for her.Being responsible for own choice, action helps make it easier to understand about rewards and consequences.
Watchful neglect.Don’t spoon feed.Don’t do it for her.It doesn’t help.
TIP6: Reward her with a smile and praise
7)Learning disability has to be noted.Sometimes a child needs a little different type of help.Don’t be disheartened.Just get the right professional advice and do it with her.
TIP7: Observe
My confession:
I sometimes fall asleep if she is practicing reading because her voice is very sweet and has a nice sing song quality. But since she is five she finds this adorable. My hubby, on the other hand, doesn’t.
