This is really true. I agree we cannot try to protect our children from conflict. It’s in those moments they learn the most valuable lessons.
jsackmom says
As a special needs parent I find this difficult but necessary to teach my children. I’m more protective when I know the word can be cruel and I want to shelter my son with autism from any hurt. He lives and loves with his whole being and he teaches me more with his resilience than what I teach him about the way the world works. He’s happy and healthy and really that’s all that matters. ????

Happy and healthy is most important. The rest will follow.Thank you for sharing your story.God helps those who need him most.

This is so very true- my son definitely takes his cues from his parents about his behavior and his mood. We try to remain calm and allow him to develop his own feelings about a situation before we react.

Great points Amrita. I agree that we shouldn’t insulate children from sorrow and conflict – they need to learn how to deal with them effectively.

Lovely! I likes all the pointers you want us to teach children. I would love to teach children to be happy, and trying to do that always. Being a strict mom and a friendly mom is such a difficult task for moms.

Absolutely, when we struggle, we believe, when we fall, we rise, when we are heartbroken, we again tend to trust. Such a beautiful post to start the day ๐
Mayuri Nidigallu says
One of your most beautifully written posts, so far, Dr Amrita.
I loved this line ‘Let them learn to patch their souls.’
Yes, children should not be treated like fragile beings, cocooned from the realities of life and the world. Encouraging them to think and to recover from hurt only makes them stronger.
This post should be made mandatory reading for all parents!
dramrita says
Thank you so much Mayuri. You really made my day.The “patching up soul” part we all have to learn .Otherwise we will have holes in our souls. That’s not good at all.
God bless .

Agree. Experience is the best teacher and it shapes child’s development too. So, yes, we must let our children explore and learn as they grow.
dramrita says
True Shilpa. We have to stand by when they learn.Watch them stumble. But let them learn
