Why do I buy paperbacks after reading the ebook or listening to audiobooks?
Estimated reading time: 4 minutes
Key Takeaways
- I buy paperbacks after reading ebooks or listening to audiobooks to re-read them later and pass them to my daughter.
- I prefer physical books for easier scanning and reduced eye fatigue compared to digital formats.
- Ebooks are useful while traveling, for convenience, and typically cheaper than paperbacks.
- Audiobooks work well for multitasking, like exercising or household chores, providing a way to consume books without eye strain.
- Each format has its advantages, but I cherish the tangible experience of reading a paperback.

Short answer I want to re-read them or keep it for my daughter to read when she is ready for it.
Now the longer version of e-book versus paperback versus audiobook
Once upon a time I wrote a blog post talking about ebook or physical books.
All three have their use .
But I prefer a real book in hand.
This is because just like the Any book App any digital device/app/cloud/software can crash ,go out of business, change their rules and get hacked into or just unaffordable in the future for any reason, what will happen to my books then? For Physical books they stay with me and I consider them my treasures .
When I want to re-read a section or scan a book quickly I find it way more difficult to scan digital documents than paper.Eye fatigue is real especially with digital device. Its also more difficult to compare multiple books or maybe learn to paint from an ebook than a physical book. Its only with AI tools like Notebook LM that you can possibly compare audiobooks or ebooks. Not quite as fun.
When I want to argue about a topic and want to show someone here its in this book, it works better if the book is in hand. It’s just not possible with an Audiobook and less powerful with Ebooks.
When I want my daughter to read a book I don’t want her to read it on Kindle or pdf or epub.Blue light and screen use must definitely be avoided in growing age unless there are no options.I also dont want her to use ear phones .Luckily in case of books we do have an option.
It’s also way more fun checking out my real book shelved rather than a digital shelf .
You simply can’t speed listen audiobooks and scanning ebooks are way less fun than a physical book.
That’s the reason I published the entire Krishna Mishra Mystery series as a paperback for readers who want the comfort of a book in hand.
All my books are here
What about ebooks ?When are they most useful?
When I am traveling and I have a huge library one on my phone and one on my Kindle If I have the Kindle app then my phone is all I need when I wait in line or travel.
When my daughter has exams and we have to travel just before the exams, having all her course ebooks on my phone is wonderful(even though I dont want to increase her screen time, sometimes you need the ebook back up).NCERT has free ebooks of all classes and almost all subjects on their website.A big boost for students all over India. If someone from a different board wants some extra knowledge and brush up on science and maths of NCERT, this is a good way .You just need an internet connection and phone. Digital education is truly democratizing learning.
When I can’t wait for the paperback to arrive.
Its usually cheaper .
It prevents my bookshelves from being overburdened.
But what about Audiobooks?
Its perfect when your eyes are fatigued and you still want to know about what’s inside a fascinating book.
Its perfect while exercising
Its not interfering when you are cooking or doing house work?
Its my favorite help when I fold laundry. There’s simply no other way I can finish my work.Audiobooks makes me look forward to Audiobooks.
One book whose ebook I have, still listened to the audiobook for revision and bought the paperback .
My book whose audiobook I have released. How to Walk Write and Garden for the Healthy Life You Want .

Though it tanked in the review and sales part, the message and information in the book is one I feel everyone needs to know. But as Krishna says “you can only help those who seek your help.”It’s also called autonomy.
