13 Easy ways to sleep Better everyday(Nightwear plays a Big role!)
Nightwear are my most picky buys. A friend took me shopping in Delhi, to the most amazing shop. After I left Delhi the only way I could get my nightwear from there, was when people visited and I begged or blackmailed them. I can wear only pure cotton or silk. Whenever I wear anything which has mixed threads I break out in rashes. Its an itchy, but hundred percent way of checking the quality of nightwear you buy online.
The easiest way to good health is to sleep at least seven to eight hours per day. We all need it and adolescents and infants need it even more. . This is the time your body recovers and rejuvenates. You need something comfortable next to your skin. Something which will keep you warm in winters and cool in summers.Something to make you feel good.
When you buy online Zivame is my favorite destination. Nightwear for women needs to be perfect. Remember comfort. Wear the softest nightwear you can find. If it’s a whisper against your skin, you will sleep better. Your skin is the largest organ of your body and anything irritating it, won’t help you rest.
Why is sleep so important?
What happens when you don’t get enough of it? Sleep deficit is a real problem. You can’t make up by sleeping more later. It’s a deficit forever. Believe me, I know. That’s one big reason night duties can be a real healthcare issue. It’s not just for today, but for forever.
Shift workers and night shift workers often suffer deprivation, because your body’s circadian rhythm needs to work on time. When bedtime is erratic, hormones go crazy and many lifestyle diseases pop up. Metabolic syndrome, obesity, depression, hypertension all have a relation to sleep deficiency and poor anxiety management.
But what if you are young, eating healthy, working out every day and partying the night away?
You will be undoing all the good. Did you know sleep deprivation is a form of torture and can cause intense mental health challenges?
13 Steps to Better Sleep Hygiene
Say no to Catnaps. You will sleep better at night when you don’t doze for more than 15 minutes in the afternoon.
Try to avoid caffeine after 6 pm. Check the cups of tea, coffee, cola you are having. Anything with caffeine needs counting. Switching to green tea will help.
Eat dinner early. The fuller you are, the heavier your tummy feels, the less comfortable you will be lying down. The best way to sleep better, is to shift bedtime to at least 2 hours after dinner. Dinner by 8 pm gives you ample time to digest and prevent reflux when you sleep. When we sleep on a full stomach it slows down the metabolism and prevents the food being digested properly. As a result, you wake up feeling drowsy, heavy and uncomfortable.
Check the room temperature. It should just right for the season. A too warm or cold room will be uncomfortable.
Get a good mattress. This is essential for your body to be well rested and feel energized. Good back support and a firm mattress is a long time investment. You can’t ignore the value of an excellent mattress and its relation to quality of rest.
Workout daily. Lift weights, have a daily fitness plan to make you tired at the end of the day. Go for a walk 40 minutes after dinner or on the treadmill. But don’t do this too close to bedtime. An hours gap is good enough.
Listen to calming music. Soothing music when played on a loop helps to unwind and sleep better .Loud rock music will not work. Meditate and do Yoga, to relax at the end of a workday. This helps stretch the tired muscles and not only make you feel good but also rest better.
Read your favorite book. If you are a book worm and have a much-loved book you could re-read it,this is the time. A new book will keep you awake, but not an old favorite.
Avoid working on the bed.No gadgets in the bedroom will always help in better relationship and health.
Make a bedtime routine and stick to it. Habit forming is powerful. Read my post on building powerful habits
Don’t take random medicines, as they may affect the future quality of rest.
Skip alcohol, tobacco use before bedtime. Avoid them altogether for better health.
Inspire your partner to go to bed at the same time. That works in myriad interesting ways, for better health and also nurtures a relationship.
What if you can’t rest well, even after all these?
- Count to 100 in reverse or try focussing at the center of your forehead inside your brain. It sounds weird, but works.
- Try to study something and I guarantee, you will doze off!
Quality and quantity of sleep both are important. While seven to eight hours is needed for optimal functioning, some claim to work well even with less sleep. While physiological variations occur, randomized control trials are needed for safety profiles for shorter sleep durations. When people snore the quality of sleep is poor. It affects health and is always a problem for family members and sometimes neighbors too!
Danger signs of poor snooze
- If your partner complains you are snoring.
- If you feel lethargic in the morning
- You can’t do anything without a catnap.
- You are gaining weight together with sleeplessness.
- You have a problem controlling your blood pressure and poor control of blood sugar.
- When you feel anxious or irritable the entire day.
- You never feel rested.
- If this happens every day.

5 Best Wipes for Baby: Everything you want to Know!
If you are a mommy you will love wipes. If you are a doctor mommy, you will be obsessive about wipes. If reading labels was a mild habit before I became a mommy then now I am a certified professional now.
The interesting thing about labels is, even when they say something, you may understand something else. When we were in medical college, one of our teachers used to say, only if people washed their hands with water, many diseases could be avoided. That stuck my head. Several national guidelines mention using water only for cleaning babies nappy area. But when it comes to babies, it’s not just their bottoms that need cleaning. Babies can attract dust and dirt like a vacuum cleaner.
In this post I tell you:
What do I want in my Baby wipe?
7 Important things to know about Wipes for Baby

What will a mom do? Not let them play? Not let them be exposed to dirt? In India with the hot and humid climate in most places, this is difficult. It gets worse when they start coloring, painting, going to school. My daughter loves all kinds of artwork, and her hands get dirty with colors. Now in winters, I used to worry about excessive hand washing. So we made a simple system of always having wipes in hand and just getting the gunk off. Before meals wash well with soap and water.
But even then, I found two issues.
- One of the popular wipes had a fragrance.
- They left the hand dried out.
- Some contained PEG in undisclosed amounts. When children are teething, this can be a problem.

7 Important things to know about Wipes for Baby
Alcohol-free doesn’t mean PEG free.PEG is technically a glycol, not alcohol. But if a product contains PEG they have to mention it.
For skin products, PEG can be used in concentrations up to 1% safely. Unfortunately, most products with PEG fails to mention the percentage on the packaging. Interestingly Johnson and Himalaya both list PEG in the ingredient list.
- The fragrance is not a good thing.
- Eco-friendly a biodegradable are words to note.
- The European Commission recommends, that products containing harsh surfactants, such as sodium lauryl sulfate, should be avoided.
- Wipes should contain pH buffers to maintain slight acidity(pH 5.5).
It should be free of irritants such as alcohol, fragrance, essential oils, soap, and harsh detergents (e.g., sodium lauryl sulfate); they should contain well‐tolerated preservatives.

Green Tea a weightloss drink:Truth or myth?
Green tea has taken the world by storm. For a Ginger chai person, this was really difficult. But when the post-pregnancy weight seemed to increase, my hubby asked me a question.
How many liters of milk are you having daily with that creamy ginger tea? The sugar and thickened milk still make me happy, but I had to give up this evening tea, for my cup of green tea. The good thing about this is you can have it anywhere. Carry it and you never miss your green tea
Make it anywhere by carrying your favorite tea bags. My favorite tea is the Golden tips Green tea.
What to do when you travel?
Even five-star hotels don’t make green tea as you do. Don’t worry. Make your green tea in an InstaCuppa Detox Double Walled Glass Bottle Infuser. It is a 450 ML Steel Infuser Unit you can also find at instacuppastore .
The 470 ml InstaCuppa Thermos Infuser Water Bottle is good too.
Even better get an InstaCuppa Vacuum Insulated Tea Travel Mug.It is 470 ML, stainless Steel infuser unit, with a sipper lid & Filter. It is double walled Thermos Flask and has a no-slip, Silicone Grip.
How to brew the perfect cup of green tea
- Measure your water.
- Don’t boil water. Or if water is boiled let it cool down for 5 minutes
- Put in a little amount of loose leaves or tea bag.
- Keep for two minutes if you want a light flavor and longer if you want a stronger flavor.
- Skip the sugar.
- You can add ginger to the water while heating for a gingery green tea
- You can add lemon and a dash of honey to the green tea.
Important to know
- Green tea has caffeine and stimulates metabolism.
- Don’t overdo it as it can make you jittery and make sleep difficult.
- In case you want to sweeten it, try honey or jaggery. Sugar substitutes too can have several issues.
Why does green tea increase metabolism?
The caffeine in green tea, like that in regular tea and caffeine, give a boost to your metabolism.
Can Green tea suppress appetite?
Not really, until you count it as a fluid to fill you up,
But does Green tea help you lose weight?
- Several Cochrane reviews showed green tea helped reduce weight in test group more than the placebo group. Cochrane Systematic Review including 14 RCTs showed in the green tea group lost an average of 0.2 to 3.5 kg more than those in the control group over 12 weeks.
- But the results were not statistically significant.
- Secondly, the green tea used in trials used concentrated active ingredients (catechins and caffeine) of green tea.
But if you skip milk while having green tea, the drink is automatically lower in calorie. If you don’t sweeten it, then your drink has minimal calories. Any weight loss is good weight loss, at least you don’t gain weight when you drink it!
What’s your take on green tea’s weight loss property?

Painless vaccine for Whooping cough/DPT versus Painful vaccine
Painless vaccine for Whooping Cough?
Does this work? Are there painless options for everyone? The answers get interesting.Vaccine and painless? Sounds like an answer to a prayer. Who in their right mind would like to cause pain to babies right?
Updated 2019
Painful vaccine for whooping cough or Painless? If the answer was limited only to the “pain ” factor of the vaccine, I would probably not even bother with this post.
But few things in life are that simple. Being parents mean, you have to take enormous ‘pains’ to make the right choice. The right choice and easy choice are not always best friends. With several types of research over the year, facts about the two types of DPT vaccine has become clear.
Though my aim is to help you take the right decision, you should always consult your pediatrician in case you have difficulty deciding.
What is Painless Vaccine?
The painless vaccine is the popular name of acellular Pertussis ( whooping cough) vaccine. It is generally given as a combination vaccine, DaPT (Diphtheria,acellular-Pertussis, Tetanus).
What is Painful Vaccine?
The painful vaccine is also Pertussis vaccine like the painless vaccine, but it is whole cell vaccine. This too is given as a DwPT combination. So , both these vaccines are Pertussis vaccines, with a few important differentiating factors.

Pros of Painless vaccine for whooping cough
Post-vaccination side effects, like high fever, persistent cry, local site painful swelling, are less common, in this variety than a Painful vaccine.
If a Painless vaccine is available, why the necessity of a Painful vaccine?
Experience with the Painless vaccine in industrialized countries has unfortunately brought forward two important facts:
1) Painful, vaccine (whole-cell) for DPT: Better priming, which means initial sensitization to the antigen (bacteria) is better. Thus antibody production is more and protection is superior.
2) The painless vaccine has a faster period of waning that is the immunity provided by the painless vaccine decreases faster than the painful vaccine. These two reasons are responsible for recent recurrence of whooping cough in many of the countries using only the Painless vaccine.
Why do we need to vaccinate our children against Pertussis?
Pertussis/Whooping cough/Kali Khasi/100 days cough are few of the names of the disease that can occur in all age groups depending on the level of immunity.
It is a bacterial infection of the respiratory tract. Highly contagious, usually manifesting as severe, persistent disturbing cough, lasting for a prolonged period not responsive to antibiotics.
Primary prevention (vaccination), and supportive care during disease are the management protocols. Infants are more at risk of debilitating course of the disease and thus most countries include this vaccine in their immunization schedule.
Current Recommendation for Pertussis vaccine
Indian Academy of Pediatrics recommends DPT vaccination.Give whichever is available. Importance of timely immunization cannot be stressed enough.
Primary immunization: at 6 weeks, 10 weeks and 14 weeks.
Booster dose: at one and a half years and five years.
When can you give Painless vaccine for whooping cough
- History of severe adverse effect to the previous dose of painful vaccine.
- A child having any neurological problem.
- Booster doses at one and a half years and five years.
Best practice:(IAP 2018 December Update)
The painful vaccine is to be preferred in all cases as it gives better protection for a longer duration. A healthy child is a happy child. As parents, we have to make choices which have the potential to change their lives forever. S
The Primary series or first three doses of DPT vaccine can be given with either wP(painful) or aP(painless vaccines). The painful vaccine is definitely superior (as recommended by WHO )to aP vaccine when it comes to level and duration of immunity. But causes a more local, painful reaction. In view of parental anxiety and concern regarding the local and systemic reactions to painful vaccines, the painless vaccine can also be given even in the primary series.
