The Hosting Horror Story starring Bigrock in a villainous role ,WebSpaceKitย in a Hero’s role and me the damsel in distress but believe me I tried fighting the big bad wolf for a long time.
Since Paul of UltimateBlogChallenge asked us to share a resource list ,here’s my list of 26 Resources for 2026 for bloggers, authors, artists and creative entrepreneurship.
I am starting in the end .But I am the kind of woman who reads romances and fairy tales always checking out reviews for a happy ending. This story does have a moderately happy ending (for now).My blog is up.
Once upon a time I had a Hostgator hosting .Initially a starter pack followed by a cloud hosting with option of hosting multiple websites. In 2025 when Hostgator was bought by Bigrock I thought of changing and since I still had some time in hand,I waited for host Big rock performance
It was in July 16th 2025 when Big rock took over hosting and things maintained status quo till I renewed my cloud hosting with Bigrock.Since then I kept getting a c-url error which I found out was a server error.
I optimized and compressed my images and decided to reach out to Bigrock support.Checking the website I saw there was no direct email address for support neither was there a phone number visible until you signed in.
That was funny.
I decided to email support and was told support was available only kn chat or call.Call kept getting cut and no reference number .Chat kept getting disconnected.
After the first two days of chatting a scan report of my website showed one virus which they had removed.
My c-url problem(server problem) kept continuing. I kept on trying to reach out to them. My website was barely working.
They finally told me to take a backup and they will do a reset after which I will need to restore .
I took a backup. They didn’t tell me to delete the extra backup(s) in the public_html folder before I had downloaded my backup .Since I had never done all this I didn’t know.I also didn’t know that a backup file if too heavy will not be uploaded via cpanel and the FTP option too was not working for some reason. They were sending me kne line instructions and the time lag between response causef connection to Time out in FTP client and the chat kept disconnecting.
I was very upset and things were really confusing and I even requested cancellation of account.I knew this support was bad. They had no self help doc or email or hands on support.
In case you are an expert I am sure you know how to manage this. But if not please choose a hosting provider who helps you in case you cant due to any reason.
People who blog and create content online may not be as tech savvy as needed in complex cases and it easy to appear to help while giving incomplete answers. Its not just about bad support it’s about deliberate delay and general unhelpful company practices.
Once upon a time I wrote about White Hat Junior and Byjus because I thought they were playing with the dream of the working person.Bigrock is definitely upto no good and if I used Hostgator for eleven years and then suffered this, then I have an idea what many others are going through.(Check their replies on x and you will understand too.)
I am sure their intention is less than the best.
First they find a virus .Then they give horrible support and mention code guard for security (which is their product)for which they mailed twice but no email regarding my hosting problem. Its very interesting .Their X account is managed by a chat bot with only one response.
But wait the story gets better .As soon as I post on x like within in hours,I get a call from customer support asking me about what exactly I have problem about.During the call they were recording me without my permission. But I did tell them everything that happened. Interestingly their home page doesn’t have an obvious terms and conditions page or any kinds of pages with rules of cancelation written.I asked for a written refusal from them citing why they cant refund.
I want my money back since I didn’t use their services and they lacked the facilities to provide service.
I a writing about this because I hope this helps someone.
I am writing about this because after blogging for 11 years,I realized the world still need human experiences which AI can learn from.
I want people to check terms and conditions before they go and buy something online .
When companies grow, merge fold up its better to keep watching, before going in for the long haul.
Buy hosting for one year and then see how it goes.
I am not using Bigrock/Hostgator for my current blog hosting any more.
The process appears to be deliberately slow to make you give up.Their x account shows multiple similar complaint with same level of redressal. This company is unreal.
The goodnews:I found a helpful hosting company whom I used before for another project. That was a good thing.I followed the advice of amylynnandrews who always said to avoid keeping all your eggs in one basket.
Luckily my domain was with Godaddy and changing the nameservers to the new hosting was a breeze.
Writing about what went right with the new hosting and how things were deliberately slow with Bigrock.
The X thread I posted.
Hi @BigRock since you have failed to help me I have already requested you to cancel and refund my cloud hosting fees. You can check that since renewal your server has continuously given curl errors.
Under the circumstances I would like a full refund.I have already mentioned this repeatedly on chat.Your terms and conditions are no where seen on website and @HostGator left us in a lurch with you
Unfortunately I took to @X because you have zero email support except for selling.I checkedYour chat support gets disabled randomly inbeteeen with no simple support number for follow up.Your customer care is either incompletely informed or deliberately unhelpful for maximum delay.
I have been #blogging online since 2014 and I had to write about the horrifying experience with your cloud #hosting.I lost money due to this unprofessional behaviour including failure on the part of your customer care ,to inform me about several key points while taking backup. This has not only harmed my site which is eleven years old and has cause ,severe mental distress.
I don’t know whether you even care about having a business but this was highly unprofessional and unethical on multiple levels.I hope this will help somebody starting out .
Hostgator wrote glowing emails about how the official merger with Bigrock is a big day for Indian hosting industry.Well its definitely big ,but a big fall in service quality and customer support it seems.
