Taslima Nasreen is a writer who faced immense persecution in her country Bangladesh and is now living in exile.She wrote about the state of Women inside her own religion.Things which you knew,but would never dare speak.But she spoke,she wrote and the inevitable followed.

The fundamentalists wanted her out of there.Let me rephrase .They wanted her dead and 100 feet under or blown to smitherens.

She escaped from Bangladesh in 1994 to Kolkata, where the then Left Front, Communist,Socialist so called Equality loving leaders male and female told her ,she was not welcome.

The bravest writer I have seen.So called modern feminists ,leftists should learn a few things from her.Changing the system needs courage.She spoke about womens rights when people promoted Burkhas as “choice”.

Great work by the GOI and Government and West Bengal to invite her.#Lajja is a must read.

Lajja (Shame) was a book about the persecution ,horror,trauma,violence,rape faced by a Bangladeshi Hindu family in the after math of a particular controversial structure being dismantled in India.The novel was based on real life,true event and was also in part documentation of what happened and the failure of the Bangladesh Government to protect its citizens.

Taslima Nasrin is incidentally a trained allopathic  doctor and her courage cannot be explained.in words.Her books weave truth and pain and may lack fairy tale endings, but the honesty makes her books a must read
