I believe skipping nature,in daily wellness habits is the reason behind many of the ills that ail our lives. This is the story of my journey from 2014 to 2024 ,growing from my Balcony Garden to the Mango orchard.
But before more about that don’t forget to download my new book (it’s free for a limited time) Human Body for kids:A Look Inside You
I am an ENT surgeon, author, podcaster, and digital content creator.I am creating content online since 2014. I have published more than 10 books on Kindle .Check out, my website Healthwealthbridge to know all about me .
Having green plants in my life is a blessing in multiple ways.
They make me feel happy whenever I look at them.
Watering the plants, cleaning the leaves, adding manure ,cleaning up the dead leaves are all small things that help me feel calm.Sometimes I get so much into the flow I spray the leaves in the wrong direction and unmindful spray a few droplets onto a passerby .I apologise to you ,if I have ever done that to you.
They give my home the right amount of unique tropical vibe without leaving home.
They are my reason to paint fresh pots and planters .
They clean the indoor air with no effort from my side, plus it doesn’t require electricity unlike other room air purifiers
They promote positivity. That’s something everyone agrees about.
They improve mood and going plant shopping is an instant mood elevator.
They helped me learn patience, gratitude and mindfulness.
They made me realize having deep roots help you survive storms and floods.
They made me realize that sometimes helping others means just being me
Plants in my Balcony helped my find friends who are tree lovers and plant trees .That’s why I realized you do attract what you think about and surround yourself with and what better than my green best friend .

Memories of a garden…
Every day a few flowers bloom.
A few flowers die and fall to the ground.
Every day a new seed sprouts.
Every day a leaf falls .
But Every day we all still do what we are born to do .
Cycle of life and the work we do.
To do ,what we are born to do.
Karma is Dharma and that’s something the garden knows .
Making things easy for yourself is the first step in doing stuff regularly. All women juggle multiple roles, plus we love things pretty .That makes us very strict critiques of our own work and worth.
The first step is to step down from the hamster wheel .
Accept you can only do so much.
Accept life and home are like a painting .It’s your WIP.
It’s your chance to add the glitter of gold or not.
It’s your chance to make it abstract or realistic.
It’s your chance to add colours or go black and white.
It’s your choice to stay within the borders or paint outside .
It’s your choice to choose red or green or a little bit of the rainbow.
Whatever you paint ,it’s unique .It’s your life on the canvas.
Your home, your garden, your work, your art ,your story, your entire life is a rich tapestry of how to knit your life with different threads of experience. It’s your legacy .Make it great.
This is the water apple tree in my village garden. The first fruit of the season is the most awaited and we couldn’t wait to eat it plus make a reel!Look what happened !But luckily no harm done.
Easy fruit tree to grow is the water apple .The only downside, birds and monkeys love it too.Its only 1300 square feet and it helps me grow fruits, veggies and spices !I never thought I would be a food grower ,but it was one of the most blessed decisions. I am sharing this because #CauseAchatter 2024 is about the little steps I am taking to live life better.

On Healthwealthbridge I started writing, to share my experience and knowledge as a Doctor. But down the line I started sharing my gardening journey too.
But it kind of makes sense. It all started with a gardening a long time back. We have a jackfruit tree in our childhood home.I spent hours looking at it and thinking about climbing on top. It looked pretty much like the Faraway tree.Enid Blyton’s book remember?

Another dream was about digging underneath it and coming out on the other side of the Great Wall of China , grabbing a pot of Gold, and running back to my home. Both the dreams stayed in the dreamscape.

I didn’t climb the tree , and nor did I dig underneath it . But I learned from it. It was almost eighty years old and still bore fruits every year. Looked happy, spread shade and always made me smile.

Cut to 2014,I started a balcony garden with a baby in tow, and in 2020 November I started our kitchen garden in the family village home. Planting is now a family activity and so is gifting plants. How to Walk, Write and Garden for the Healthy Life You Want is a book you will like, if you garden too.

The best thing we can do for ourselves and the future is to make it a greener place. Technology has helped the world a lot but so have plants. We need them to live.

Did you plant a tree this month?
Sharing this video from our home garden this month.

I love researching the effect of gardening on health and writing. I believe there’s a bigger plan behind all coincidences.
Whether gardening will help you write or not will depend on whether you ready to take up the challenge and let me know a year from today.
How is the Health of the Nation: The report is an eye-opener!

When I wrote the book about How to walk, write, and garden for a Healthy life, I was a fan of walking. But after the 2020 scene of lockdown and generally crazy, walking, gardening, and writing has become lifesaving.
There are studies about the effect of the therapeutic effect of gardening on older people, but few studies on the emotional and mental wellness of the working adult population. Before I started gardening, I lacked focus. I wanted to do a lot of things but felt a disconnect and discontentment. But with gardening and writing joining hands in my life, I have realized peace and contentment like everything else, starts inside.

If you ask me what comes first, walking, writing, or gardening, I will be in a fix. When I miss out on any of these activities, I feel uneasy, and my mood swings and I focus on all the dark misery and feel the weight of the world. Going for a brisk walk on the treadmill puts me in the right frame of mind, tapping away on the laptop. Trimming a few plants and watering them makes my heart sing, and my brain full of ideas.
If family, education, and a higher power have brought me so far, then walking, writing, and gardening have been the fruit of those trees. Writing and taking care of your garden need right-brain thinking. Creating, nurturing, and finding new ways to use the old. They make you intuitive and creative, showing you glimpses of magic and untold mysteries of finding wisdom lost. The insights are borne of sweat and toil. Writing and gardening will take your time, make you tired, but will fill your heart with gladness.
I am a reader. Even now, I can spend days with books. Fiction or nonfiction if the topic piques my interest and the book is written well, I read it. I am not a natural writer. Writing happens with toil and sweat. It occurs after fighting with imposter syndrome, of feeling not good enough and worrying about what I am doing with my life thing!
But if 2020 has taught me anything in the last several months is this:
Every path my God shows me is a path of service. I need to embrace it and have faith.
While being a doctor is a dream come true. being an author is an unplanned journey. Writing has helped me heal. It helped me become more patient and find ways, to tell the truth without breaking a bone. It had helped me find points of view, when I thought only my way was the right way. It has helped me find my own self.
A small exercise for your writing brain if you are not a gardener yet.
Get a small potted indoor plant. Keep it where you can see it when you write. Water it and give it sufficient light. After one year write to me telling me at dramrita@healthwealthbridge.com about what happened in your writing life,I would love to know.
Walking, writing, and gardening is what’s in my toolbox for feeling better. What’s in yours?
