Surgisphere made the data available from a large number of hospitals all over the world. At least that’s what they claimed. But in a stunning revelation by the Guardian in this article, the veritable can of worms has been spilled.

How is the Health of the Nation: The report is an eye-opener!
If COVID 19 is in conversation, can Hydroxychloroquine and chloroquine be far behind? After PresidentMr. Trump made that famous tweet there has been raging wars of words about ups downs, pros, and cons of Hydroxychloroquine.
In the middle of all this came an article in the reputed online journal Lancet. They famously proclaimed that a study has made it clear that people using Hydroxychloroquine were facing higher mortality when affected with COVID and having comorbidities.
There was an uproar.WHO declared stopping the trial of this drug, and a few countries followed suit?
Luckily, India’s ICMR decided to follow its own data set and continued the trials and protocols.
Guess what? In a stunning example, investigative journalism by the Guardian Australia has come to light that the co-author of the Lancet article owns the data analysis company(Surgisphere) who provided the data set.
On being questioned Surgisphere, was unable to provide the exact sources of their data. They even allegedly collected data from hospitals in Australia, who have never heard of the company.
In my update, last week, I had already mentioned why the study Lancet cited was doubtful under many conditions.
The bias was evident.
But what is shocking, that Lancet had claimed to have independently reviewed the study. But even they but have published a retraction. WHO has restarted the Hydroxychloroquine trials.
All this brings forward specific pertinent questions:
1)Who funded such a study?
2)Why would Lancet carry an article on a survey not independently reviewed about a global pandemic treatment protocol which could affect millions of lives?
3)WHO, whose role during the COVID crisis is still under fire again, had giant misstep by supporting this doubtful study.
4)Who will be liable for such misrepresentation?
5)What exactly is going on here?
6)There is still no definitive treatment for COVID19, and different medical protocols are being followed in different countries according to the response.
Growing up and being a part of the medical fraternity for the last 20 years, many like me believe what Lancet and WHO say like the previous word. But the COVID 19 pandemic makes one thing very clear. Think for yourself. Independent verification of data and research by authority sources free form bias is essential. World Health organization needs Medical Doctors Heading it at all levels.
