My Message to a Child Woman #International Women’s Day 2018?

Last year I wrote a letter to my daughter

Today I was thinking about all the things I wish I knew when I was a child-woman.

Study very hard

Yes, I know the media, parents and everyone else under the sun keep telling you to do different things.
Regular education not important.Its easier than that.Blah blah blah.
The truth is not as easy or as cute.
I wrote about the unpleasant truth about the Indian education system, but today I need to tell you something very important.
You must complete your formal education in something.Yes very important.Those certificates and degrees matter in almost all good paying jobs with any chance of growth.If you want to have a business even then you will need to count your money take inventory to, manage the workforce, marketing, and nineteen thousand weird jobs which somehow education does prepare us for.
Also, try to do it with all your heart.Any work is useless unless you to do it sincerely.I am not talking about perfect here or top score.Both, by the way, are excellent.But I am talking about doing it well.
Wherever you are with whatever be your formal course of study, do it well.

Why should you do it well?

Because until you won a scholarship(in that case you can skip this part), your parents are probably paying for this.

Money is Goddess Laxmi and education needs the blessing of Maa Saraswati.Few people can ignore the need for either.

It’s your time.

It’s precious.Make it count.

Never stop loving yourself deeply.Only if you love yourself with all your flaws, will you recognize that same love in another eye.

Choose your friends carefully .choose your life partner with even more care.

While parents help and nurture your growth if your life partner is not supporting your productive years are going to be a difficult battle.

Men and women need each other because God made us that way.But choose with care.

Childhood obesity :What happens to your baby’s body(part 4)

When I write about children’s health issues my hubby (he is a Pediatrician and a pediatric nutritionist ) helps me with all the research.

This time while writing the #Daily chatter challenge he suggested I start writing about childhood obesity.

The last 10 days of festivities and good food made writing about healthy diet difficult.

But now when we are taking a break before Diwali it’s going to be easier to write healthy.

While eating during festivals if you don’t want to lose the results of all your hard work ,it’s important to practice moderation.

Now with Bijoya Dashami sweets ,Lakshmi pujo and Kali pujo/Diwali all coming up in line we need a game plan.

How to Practice healthy even while feasting.

Enjoy the goodies but don’t go crazy.
Drink plenty of water.
Cucumbers throughout the day Lighter meals
Avoid deep-fried .Opt for grilled ,pan-fried and tandoori items
Go light on the added cream,cheese and frills that all fast food restaurant offer.
It’s better to avoid buffets because you always over eat.
Eat a healthy breakfast
Catch up on exercises.
Meditate
While going for Bijoya carry a tiffin box .Shamelessly stuff it with all the extra sweets you would like to eat but is more than your daily limits.Take it home .Enjoy 1 treat each day.

If it was eat ,eat, eat and occasionally pray during the last few days.

Now before Diwali it should be

Sleep,Pray ,exercise, eat in moderation.

Why discuss childhood obesity with festival food?

Because children learn from us ,adults. When they see us eating without control,they think it’s okay.

But it’s never a good idea to have bad food habits.

What they learn in childhood ,will affect their health as children and adults.

The saddest part is children can have the same health problems that adults do with obesity.

It’s important we know what the children have to undergo .That way we can make better choices for us and them.

So what are the symptoms that indicate excessive weight to be a medical problem?

Problems with breathing and respiration

What doe the child complain?

*Snoring, gasping ,daytime sleepiness,morning headache

*Shortness of breath,night-time or exercise cough

Medical condition :Asthma,Obstructive sleep apnea

Gastrointestinal problems:

Complaints :Irregular bowel movements

GERD

Binge eating,night-time snacking

Gall bladder diseases

Fatty liver

Eating disorders

Hormonal or Endocrine problems:

Type 2 Diabetes

Menstrual irregularities,Polycystic ovarian syndrome

Others: joint pains involving knees ,feet ,skin changes

When children are overweight ,certain guidelines help detect whether their growth in height, will help control the problem.

System assessment is important for timely referral to specialists .

When I was a child the last thing in my mind, during Durga Pujo was controlled diet.

Nowadays everyone is more aware.

Teach your children healthy choices so,they can enjoy good food without feeling guilty .They are smart .They will understand.

As parents you have the power in your hand.

2 years back when I started blogging I was clueless.

I was just writing random thoughts.

Had a why. But was not clear?

I asked myself whom I really wanted to write.

All the pro bloggers will tell you 2 different answers depending on whom you ask.

1.Write for yourself

2.If you want people to read your blog, find your audience your tribe.

That’s confusing! Till you understand the answer is complete, by combining these two.

Ultimately writing is very personal. It’s a dialogue in your brain. Where you ask questions and you yourself answer!

.So how do people attract their “tribe: their readers.

In this case “birds of a feather flock together.”

Women understand women. I write as a woman, as a mom.

So it’s no surprise that my blog is visited mostly by women.

So don’t stop writing for yourself. Somewhere there is someone, just like you who will find her way, reading your “how”.

Write for yourself and your “avatar” and you will find your readers.

She is a mom to a wonderful little boy and a guiding light for all of us.

Found her while making friends with #MyFriendAlexa, her writing says it all.She doesn’t preach .Just tells her story as it is.

Being the best example she can be, her blog is an example of emotional storytelling at its best.

I was sitting with her interview for the last few days and thinking how to introduce this wonderful woman in a way, to do her justice.

It’s difficult to tell a story about a storyteller.But a story is important .

Ultimately we learn best through stories.

A blogger, mom , motivational speaker ,freelance writer and columnist.She juggles a lot with a smile.She is a microbiologist by education and a blogger by birth.Jaibala has been featured in Sesame Street India Exchange, Huffington Post India and Women’s Web. She has also been among India’s top bloggers’ lists, twice in a row .Her posts are regularly picked as top posts. Jaibala is very passionate about writing and blogging and conducts workshops that help other writers find their voice.

Tell us Jaibala ,your story behind blogging

Three years ago, I was dealing with an impending divorce and nothing to do but feel sorry for myself. That is when, I started writing. At first it was for the content mills that paid I remember somewhere around Rs.100 for 750 words, and I thought Oh Wow! I can get paid to write, but at that rate it can best be a hobby. I did make around 10,000 Rupees a month then.

But with a child and my own emotional upheaval, it got challenging to churn out that may articles in a month. Then in November of 2013, I got introduced to NaNoWriMo and my confidence in my writing improved. It’s not like I did not know about blogging before that, but I started my blog that November, with some wonderful friends who egged me to do so.

First it was just so that I could write and heal myself. But slowly it has grown and evolved into something more, something bigger and something I love and cannot live without. Now I write, inspire others to write, with my workshops and as a speaker.

Who do you write for?

I write in the categories of Fiction, Poetry, parenting, Lifestyle and usually just personal essays. As a creative writer, I think my target audience is anyone who enjoys anything well written. But if I get specific, most of my writing is high on emotions and issue based. I think it is for people stuck and unsure.

The workshops are for budding writers, looking to invest in their writing.

For me audience is also clients and brands that I want to associate and work with, Publications I want to write for.

So all content I create , is for being interesting, carry some thought, emotion or inspiration and be technically sound. I am a storyteller and what I write are stories. I don’t know any other thing to do it or any other way to do it.

What inspires you ?

I think we should all look at ourselves as our own inspiration. Each of us lives a life full of ups downs and in-between, but we live and that is what inspires – Life. Having a reason to live is inspiration enough. I do owe a lot to the support I have had from people around me, and they inspire me every day. Basically any idea that appeals to me is an inspiration.

3 tips & Your message for struggling mompreneurs

Remember that you are going to die one day, if that doesn’t inspire you to live today, nothing else will.

Respect and remember everyone who stands by you, they don’t have to and still they do.

Value community. Everyone may not be as invested in it as you are, but they are your biggest assets.

Struggling means you are doing something. Don’t let the world get to you, do not under any circumstances be a “me too”. Reinvent, but stay true to you; brand but let it be real and honest branding – a personal brand. Talk with people to get people talk back to you, value yourself to let others know your value and do not judge others easily.
