A year in review is enlightening. I like writing more about positive stuff than negatives.ButTim Ferris wrote something which struck a chord. In his newsletter, he mentions about reviewing the hits and misses in the year gone. Your experiences all teach a lesson. The lessons you learn from your experience will help you chart a clearer course. That’s called wisdom.

That’s why even the negatives I write about are not negative. They are lessons in disguise.For me and maybe for you.

This is what I did in 2018

I hosted the Super Blogger Challenge with the super hardworking Dr.Bushra.We started supersocialbiz with a plan.

I published 3 Books this year. From Nutrition Secrets series; Probiotic and Life: Probiotic Food (Nutrition Secrets part 3).
With the Blogchatter Ebook challenge, I started my Blogging in India book series.I published a book on Starting a Successful Blog and 7 Blogging Challenges for a successful Blog You will read a lot of how to, shortcuts from bloggers who write only on blogging. But what I share is for regular people who want to start blogging the no-nonsense way. Absolutely no one tells you how it is 90% times and the ten percent who do tell you are the people who have tried, tested and decided to share their stories. How do you know whether what they are claiming is true?
Check their blog. Look at their site traffic and you will know what I am talking about. If you are already a blogger, you obviously know this. If not, this is a heads up.

People are what they are. You are not going to change their nature.I made mistakes while choosing whom to work with. By God’s grace chaos was prevented peacefully. Sometimes work ethics don’t match, and that’s okay. What’s not okay is getting bulldozed. Try to find common ground if that doesn’t work, make a clean break.

You must ignore FOMO(fear of missing out) if you want things to make sense. I may have missed out on a few things. But that’s part of the plan.No one can do everything all the time. You need to see what makes you happy. For me, writing makes me happy. Being faithful to my vocation makes me happy. Sharing my professional knowledge (I am a medical doctor with an MBBS and MS in ENT-Head Neck surgery) to help promote everyday healthy living.

It’s not okay to promote controversial unproven healthcare, nutrition, or financial articles.
As a blogger, you are a potential celebrity. You have a real responsibility of keeping this profession authentic, the rest, as they say, is your choice. Just remember you may one day be reading an article, just like that. If you still want to do, please give proper disclosure and disclaimers.

Keep writing no matter what. I wrote at the New Delhi airport while waiting for a connecting plane. I wrote at a small hotel at Chota Mangwa while drinking cups of fragrant Darjeeling tea. I wrote when I was happy, sad, busy, tired, overwhelmed. I just wrote. It helped me, and I always hope it helps you. That’s still the number one goal of my blog
Helping people.

When you think you know people, they surprise you with something unexpected. Then you would want to hug them or run from them. I got both types this year.

When you want something it’s easier to do something about it, than crib about how no one is helping you.

Opposites attract and birds of a feather both are true. I still haven’t found the best explanation for this.

The only way to exercise the brain is to challenge it. That’s what I do every time I try something new.

I realized why editing is so difficult. As humans, we don’t like looking at our own mistakes. We like it even less when others point it out.

My hubby is my best friend for the last eighteen years and because of him, life’s easier. More news soon. This review post is going crazy. How can you review hours of work into a few words? Life’s lessons I hope I learn better and not repeat the same.

Christmas Cookies:Easy,Quick Recipe

Americans describe a cookie as a thin, sweet, small cake. Actually, a cookie can be any kind of sweet cakes made of flour. Both crisp or soft are popular. According to culinary historians, the first set of cookies was test cakes. A small amount of cake batter was baked to test the oven temperature, before baking the entire cake. Dutch word “koekjemeans “small cake.”

The winter solstice in the month of December in the Northern Hemisphere is an astronomical phenomenon marking the day with the shortest period of daylight and the longest night of the year. Winter solstice festivals, across the world, revolved around food. After all, you have to feast, since winter is coming!

By the Middle Ages, the Christmas holiday overtook solstice rituals throughout Europe. Cookies are favorite Christmas treats, as, unlike cakes and puddings they can be easily shared with far away family and friends.

Now my first memory of cookies goes back to my school days when we had a simple glass-topped aluminum oven. This was the first oven in which my love affair with baking began. I remember making very simple hard biscuits from whole wheat dough, without having any idea about authentic cookie recipes (as internet in our childhood was a fairy-tale type concept.) My sister would eat all my creations with equal gusto and very generous doses of advice.

Now that I own a proper convection oven I was thinking about baking some cookies for a very long time. But the onslaught of pictures of Christmas cookies and cookie challenges on Instagram was very intimidating. Also, in the process of making cookies, there is an extra step which involves chilling the dough. This step really puts me off and makes me feel lazy. But after drooling over all the yummy cookie pictures online and some extensive research on the “Science behind Making Cookies” I finally developed the courage to make cookies.

CHRISTMAS COOKIE:EASY RECIPE — CHRISTMAS COOKIE: EASY RECIPE

So, my friends, I will now tell you the recipe of the easiest three ingredient shortbread cookies in the world and believe me even if you are a novice in baking, these cookies will definitely turn out to be perfect. They absolutely melt in the mouth, crispy and golden pieces of heaven…….

To give these cookies a Christmas-ey flavor, you can add spices like cinnamon, nutmeg, black pepper but then omit the chocolate chip and give the cookie a name of your choice!

Preparation time: 15 minutes.

Chilling Time: 30 minutes

Baking Time: 16 to 18 minutes

Ingredients:

1 ¾ cups Flour
¾ cup powdered brown sugar
Softened Salted Butter 1 cup.

*Chocolate Button/ Chocolate Chips or cinnamon/ nutmeg/black pepper powder (optional)

(Makes around 20 cookies)

CHRISTMAS COOKIE: EASY RECIPE

Start by keeping all the ingredients on your work counter and all the mixing bowls, spoons, and baking tray ready.
Cream together the softened butter and the powder brown sugar with a handheld mixer until it is fluffy and the color of the butter changes. It will take you around 7 to 8 minutes at low to medium speed.
If you decide to make spiced cookies mix the flour with the powdered spices according to your taste.
Now mix in the flour into the creamed butter sugar mixture until combined and forms a dough. You might have to use your hands at some point to bring it all together, but in that case, do not forget to wash your hands well.
Roll the dough into 2 logs of about 1-inch diameter. Wrap each log in cling film or foil and put it into the fridge to chill for 30 minutes.
After waiting for 30 minutes and getting other work in the kitchen done, take out one of the dough roll and unwrap it.
With a sharp knife cut the dough roll into cookies of a thickness of your choice. ¼ inch thickness was the magic number for me.
Pre-heat the oven to 180^O Arrange the cookies on a baking tray with at least ½ a cm gap between them as the butter in them tends to make them spread while cooking. Bake for 16 to 18 minutes till crispy and golden.

If you decide to use chocolate chips, you can use the second roll of dough and cut them similarly and top the with the chocolate chip. But remember to press gently, as otherwise the cookies will crack.
At 16 minutes your cookies will be baked, but they will be light in colour. If you want the golden colour you have to give the cookies 2 more minutes but under supervision.
When both the batches are baked, your easy, yummy, buttery, golden medallions of heaven are ready to be enjoyed with tea, coffee or just by themselves.
And do not forget to share your cookies with family, friends and neighbours to spread the festive cheer this Christmas Season!

Chiffon sarees are one of my favorite type of sarees to buy for myself and gift.

But shopping being mostly online nowadays, I try to keep a few things in mind when I buy chiffon sarees online. It’s difficult to know the right kind to buy if you don’t know what is the right kind. If you are a Bollywood fan, you know that none of the eighties heroines skipped dancing in chiffon saree. The most memorable is easily Sridevi’s powder blue one in Mr.India.

What is a chiffon saree?

Chiffon in French means cloth. It’s a saree made up of Chiffon. It is a lightweight, diaphanous, woven fabric. Chiffon has a fine mesh-like weave giving it a transparent appearance.
Its made from cotton, silk or synthetic fibers like nylon, rayon, and polyester. The quality depends on its constituents. So all chiffon saree is a not same!

Chiffon made from silk has a beautiful natural shine which makes it stand out. The quality and how it feels next to your skin depends a lot on what its made of. A chiffon saree made from silk is soft, light, almost floating, and moves fluidly with every movement. It’s a dreamy look and you will know it when you compare chiffon made from a different fabric. The synthetic chiffon, which will be heavier and not as fluid but will still be pretty in most cases.

What is a pure chiffon saree?

A pure chiffon saree it entirely made of silk. It drapes like a dream and makes you look like a Bollywood diva! There’s a saying, that pure chiffon will pass through a ring. That’s how malleable it is. It’s like a whisper and almost featherweight compared to other sarees. If you have touched chiffon, you will know what I mean.

Can you wash a chiffon saree in a washing machine?

How to wash a chiffon saree?
It’s best to dry clean or hand wash with a gentle liquid wash.

How do you get the wrinkles out of a chiffon saree?

Set the temperature of iron to the right setting. Put a heavy cotton cloth or towel over the chiffon saree and press, till the wrinkles are out.

What are the different designs on Chiffon saree

A solid color. Both pastels and bright colors look good depending on your skin tone. But a classic red and black will be a great addition to any wardrobe

Highly recommend, getting lycra, petticoat with a side slit, for the classic mermaid drape.
Wear your heels before draping the saree, for the right level. There’s something about heels with a saree, which gives it an additional boost.
