Darjeeling is a favorite hill station for summer holidays and various vacations. The problem is the usual tourist places are so crowded, you don’t really get the relaxing vibe. We have stayed at the heart of the town, and in various other quaint location. Today I will tell you about three magical places to stay in Darjeeling which you will love if you are a nature-loving family like us.I like visiting tea garden retreats and small resorts.
The challenge is to find locations in Darjeeling where you can enjoy the gorgeous nature, unwind, relax, and not be feeling overwhelmed by the crowds. For summer holidays and vacation times, you must book well in advance to avoid last moment headaches. Anyone with any budget is welcome to Darjeeling. to escape the hot, humid plains. But holiday seasons are super packed and needs advance planning as a must.
That’s a challenge for me everywhere. I can’t live for long in places with a low green cover. It makes me sad and lowers my energy level. I can feel the energy being zapped out of me by the urban clutter. In my home, I have plants everywhere, and that helps me stay happy and focussed.

I entered in the travel /lifestyle category and used music from two of their tracks. Listen to both and let me know, which you liked best.
Chota Mangwa and Orange orchards: Blossoms Ecotourism
Orange orchards are best visited in winters. But Chota Mangwa is a destination you can visit summers or in winters. It’s best to visit during these two seasons when you can see the Kanchenjungha and the views are amazing. In the monsoons, the roads are dangerous in this part of Darjeeling. In winters you also can visit the orange gardens and try picking some (with permission). Fresh, citrusy Darjeeling oranges are so juicy sweet that you will not want to stop!
Chota Mangwa new cottages are perched on the top of a hill. It’s an eco-tourism destinationThis means hot water comes in buckets. Phone and internet connectivity is moody. The road leading up to the hotel is not for the faint hearted.
The Tumsong Tea Retreat: Chamong Chiabari Estate
A tea garden with a small cottage with four rooms for rent. If you go with a big family, you will be their only guests. The food is tasty and cooked home style. Don’t expect fancy food and a wide selection. Set meals were the norm, but it was the most relaxing stay I ever had.
The long walks around the tea gardens Long chat sessions sitting on the verandah and my daughter singing.
The tea sessions were never-ending, and their second flush from the garden is lightly fragrant and just what we expected from the Tumsong estate.
Their garden is entirely organic, and you will love the old world charm of the cottage. If you are planning to visit other touristy places, this may not be the best place to stay as its located quite a way off the main town.
