Holiday Activities Your Kids will love is a curated list of fun activities not just for holidays but for kids activities for a good time promoting creativity, curiosity while keeping them happy and mostly screen free.
There’s a heat wave and the schools have shut down early and occasionally in an online offline mode ,leaving kids with few options for fun.
Hello readers! This is miss A.Misra logging in here for yet another post!
Now, we all know that the summer holidays are coming soon, and we kids need something to keep us busy. And my mother suggests I should finish the syllabus within that time frame as we have days and days without school, but no thank you, I don’t think I will be putting that in my fun list. So here are a few fun things to do in the holidays!
1. Start a journal.
You might say that “I don’t like writing so I won’t make a journal.” Truth is, a journal does not require much writing depending on the type of journaling you do. The type I am talking about is simply taking an old copy(it does not have to be new, or absolutely designed or anything. A plain old copy will do the trick.). selecting a topic, and pasting newspaper clippings, stickers, quotes and other doodles on either a single page or two subsequent pages together, on that same idea. You should not vary from the topic as the journal becomes meaningless. Again, some people like to make PLANNER journals, where they draw a calendar of the months, jot down important dates while highlighting, designing and doodling around it. Simple, fun journaling is a timeless activity and gives a lot of enjoyment , while planner journals help you get organised more. Journal supplies ( not mandatory) include stickers, washi tape, printed designs, all which can be made at home rather than buying them. They are decorative only and if you plan on a bullet journal or planner, it’s better to ex.
2. Make a new recipe yourself.
This might be a little tricky as it takes time to adjust an exact recipe, that too from scratch, but it takes time very well, and after practising a few times, the result will be exciting. You should start with simple things, like experimenting how to make hot cocoa, or even something as simple as lemonade. But the catch is that you have to give in an item that is completely and originally your own, otherwise the recipe is not a new one. Like putting certain spices with hot cocoa, or Mixing strawberry juice( you need to strain the pulp well so that the liquid is not that thick.) with the lemonade, making it, well, strawberry-lemonade. Making the recipe might be a bit hard for children below the age of 10, so parental guidance would be best for them. Now the fun part is naming your own creation. After you successfully make the item perfectly, name it, and if you want, write the recipe down in a small notebook ( your new cookbook) so you can check it up later. You can experiment with slightly bigger things too once you get used to it, such as biscuits or cookies.
3 Have a party!
The holidays mean being relaxed and happy. What’s better than a party to cheer yourselves up? Call a few friends ( or many if you want :D) and plan the party games beforehand. If your guests agree to it, you can even make it a themed party. One party game me and my friends enjoyed during these holidays was “Cold case files”. These are unsolved case files which have been created for the purpose of a party game. They are generally bought in big packs, but me and my best friend downloaded a few FREE mini cases and printed them out to solve together. Newspaper articles, as well as clues and pictures are given for you to evaluate together and find the culprit. It is great fun but it is generally meant for children above 10 and adults can do it too. It does not have violent content shown clearly but younger children can have a little difficulty deducting clues, but if they can, bravo! It’s pretty engaging and a nice activity. Other party games can include funny ones like Never have I ever, or even the classic Floor is lava game which is fun no matter how many people you are playing with.
4.Start a mini kitchen garden.
Gardening is the perfect boredom busting activity, and as it is a kitchen garden, you can benefit from it too! You ought to start with a small item, if you have not done gardening much before. Take a deep pot or tray with soil and throw in some old onions which have green shoots coming out. Water them daily and in a few weeks your onion shoots are ready to snip and eat in some dish! They taste delicious and it feels nice to eat something you have grown yourself. After getting used to it, try multiple things at once, in different trays (obviously, unless you have an absolutely enormous tray) Anyways, if you have a backyard of your own, it’s even easier to do it. Gardening is one of the most perfect ideas for any holiday. It’s a great hobby too, and it’s fun and satisfying. But you have to be careful to plant the right seasonal fruits, otherwise the plants will refuse to grow owing to the fact that some of them grow only in certain conditions. Water them well and take care to not let insects harm them!
5. Make paper crafts.
Paper crafts are a good way to pass time. And I love paper airplanes. I make millions ( fine maybe not that much ) of different planes and try them out in my spare time and constantly tweak them. Similarly, you can make a whole fleet of boats, and colour them differently. Or try origami . If you don’t like paper folding into vehicles or origami, Here’s another idea. Paper mache! This is one of the easiest paper crafts invented. Taer newspaper into strips and dip them in water and glue paste. Take a small balloon and paste them on the balloon’s rounder end, overlapping each other in such a way it forms a bowl shape. Set it out in the sun to dry and try to remove the balloon from the dried newspaper, which now has formed a paper bowl. If it’s stubbornly stuck, prick it and take out the remaining rubber pieces. Paint the bowl if you wish. However, watercolour would not be a good option in this case as it just makes the bowl damp yet again. Gouache, or maybe even acrylic paint .You can varnish it too, but that’s not necessary. You can keep the opaque look, as it still looks quite nice. What is good about the varnish is that it prevents the paint from coming off easily or getting chipped. I used a brusto high gloss varnish on one, and it worked pretty well. But applying varnish might prevent paint from chipping, but it won’t stop the paper bowl from tearing, though.-_-
Bonus tip from mommy
1.Buy them books you loved reading as a kid and schedule their arrival just in time for the holidays. Or get a subscription to a local library. A great way to build a reading habit.
