This is great advice. We’re big sports fans and often have hoarse throats from cheering. Mistakenly we often gargled but it didn’t work. Thanks for the help.

I love these tips, thank you. I rarely like to see the doctor so I always try to fix illnesses myself. If it gets really bad, I go, but other than that, I find staying at home works best for me and my family.

Last year around this time, I was losing my voice so I gargled with warm salt water as somebody suggested… I lost my voice completely for literally a whole week after that! I didn’t have a sore throat or anything. I was just super hoarse after battling a cold. This post would’ve been really helpful at that time!

And here I’ve always thought gargling was the way — lol.
Coincidentally, right now, I am having some difficulties swallowing, had to skip dinner tonight, but I think it’s something minor and I hope it’ll be gone by tomorrow morning.

I definitely don’t mind hoarseness, as long as I’m not in any pain! I’d rather lose my voice for an extended period of time than have a sore throat!

I never knew that gargling was bad for a hoarse voice! I am definitely going to remember this. My kid has been complaining of an ear ache and sore throat this week as well. We are going to wait until monday to see if he feels better before taking him to the doctor. I’m hoping it’s just a cold.

These are such great tips! I remember when I completely lost my voice (literally, not a single sound came out of my mouth) on the morning of my final college musical performance and I had to sing a solo song! My utter panic didn’t help as there were no understudies! I try to keep myself as healthy as I can with lots of healthy odds, vitamins and dressing appropriately for he cold weather.
