Mompreneurs
Blog Beautiful :mompreneurs blogging journey (part 11)
Are you going mad ย ?
Designing and redesigning your blog?
What do you ย do ,with your blog first?
Should you have a ย blog facial ย first?
Maybe a hair spa would be better.
Chatting with my BFFs I realized we all love ย our blogs ,to look pretty.
It’s where you are everyday.
It’s your face in the digital world.
It’s obvious you want that glow.
ย
Head to toe of your blog
ย
Content
Traffic
Appearanceย
The courses about “how __made ย six figures on 6 days is making you depressed.
News flash.
Everyone is on the same boat.
Trying to know the secret sauce to make the perfect Blog.
If something has worked for you.
Will it work for me?
Nobody really knows it all.
Blogging is a reflection of life itself.
ย
You have your strengths .
Some weaknesses.
ย
But everyday when you get up remember 3 things
ย
1)Your own self hosted blog is your online real estate. That’s Big
It’s huge !
It’s a piece of the internet which you own.
Not a renter. It’s yours forever ,if you want it to be.
It’s your ย chance at digital immortality.
ย
2)Doing it the right way .A basic framework.ย
Some ย rules are same.
Valuable content
Traffic
Monetization
This is behind 90 % of blog dreams.
Time is precious.
If you want the best use of your time don’t constantly fidget with your blog.
We all do it .We waste entire days changing themes, colours and fonts.
It’s like online shopping.
Addictive.
Not productive .
But after saying all this ,I still wrote thisย post.
ย
The number one reason was:
The answer my blogger friends gave.
Simple question .
What’s the one thing you need help with on your blog?
ย Mayuri ย was bang on
“How to dress up your blog” making it aesthetically appealing .”
ย The million dollar answer.
Aesthetics!
Women love pretty blogs .ย
ย Samjothย says
ย
-
Blog attire
-
Blog logo
-
Blog colours
-
Blog layout
-
Blog design
-
Blog theme
ย This is the difference between “what a man wants & what a woman wants”.
Interestingly both want the same.Only in different words.
ย I decided to find out the ย secrets behind a “glowing blog “.
ย
ย Copybloggers ,Pinch of yum and Amylynnandrews.com are popular blogs .
Have a look at their blog design.
ย
From top to toe this is my” Blog to Beautiful ” :Part 1 ,in my mompreneurs blogging journey.
ย
Step 1
ย
Set up your mood board ย for the blog.
It will have the colours for your blog.
Make a secret Pinterest board to pin all your favourite blog pics.
Then see what you like most about each if them.
Is it the colours?
The fonts ?
The graphics everything?
ย
Step 2
Get a great theme
My favourite ย free themes are twenty sixteen , Easy Blog,Oslen.
Check out this amazing resource for free responsive themes.
Before August 2016 I had no paid theme.God had other plans .
Pat Flynnย gifted his amazing ,SPI Pro theme in August to me.Life changed.
How my ย blog looks now with the SPI theme
ย
ย
While choosing a theme :
Is it for a blog ?
Or a business website
ย
ย This surveyย says bloggers are the third most trusted source of information .We come right after friends and family .ย
If that’s the case we have tremendous responsibilities .
ย
3 things which are most important for your blog theme:
#It should be simple
#It should be mobile responsive .
This can’t be ignored at any cost.
#It should work across all browsers.
ย

ย
Be careful you remember about colour ย and psychology.
Women like Blue purple green.
Men like Blue Green and black
Pink is a safe colourย
You are ย safe with blue and green it seems .
Plus these colours show authority and trust.
But when it comes to food blogs, blue is a strict no no.
Read about it here
How to Use the Psychology of Color to Increase Website Conversions ย
ย
5 Cs of ย Blog design
- Clean
- Clear
- Capital
- Consistency
-
Color
While choosing colour we steal from interior designer tricks. After all your blog is no less than prime real estate.
The rule of 60-30-10
Primary colour 60%
It should cover most of the blog space which is visible.
Secondary colour 30% It should be creating a visually striking contrast to the primary colour.
10% is the accent colour. It’s role is to complement either of the other two.
But what if you want more colours?
.It’s your blog after all. There’s no style police around.
But the more colours you have.
The more distraction it creates from your content.
The heroine is always the content.
The rest is supporting elements.
The trick is to create a cohesive theme for your blog .
Want to define a particular area?
Use different shades of your top 3 colours.
ย
Background dark or light ?
Try reading a blog with a dark background ย and light fonts .
Then one with a white background and black fonts.
The second one is easier.
ย
The best way to make your blog float ,is to have lots of white spaces.
ย
Avoid the long text blocks .
Break it up into readable chunks .
Read this 10 Blog design dos and don’ts
ย
You have a theme ย and a colour scheme .
Now what ?
What do you need next for your brand?
Step 3
You need a favicon.
It’s that square thingy ,which shows in the browser when a website is open.
ย
You need a favicon because it’s your brand identity .
It can also beย your logo .
It should be unique to your brand.
You should have it copyright protected.
I am ย still confused about what I want here .So I use my face as a favicon .You can see my peeping on your browser .
That takes care of unique and copyright for now.
ย Tina and me ย are gifting our ย Thankful Thursdayย
first prize winner ย a custom favicon for her blog .
ย
Your blog is your online face.People unfortunately do judge a book by its cover.
Hope these tips help you on the way to a better blog design
ย
Takeaway
ย
So this weekend do 3 things
Check your blog theme .
Is it ticking all the boxes.
Get your colour codes and mood board ready.
Make a ย custom favicon ย for your site.
ย
Next week some more info to make your blog beautiful .Inside out.
Stay Thankful .Stay happy.

Mompreneur’s blogging journey ย (part 10) :Knowtbook lessons & November plans
I love how ย Amy Lynn Andrews ย Knowtbook has made my life easier.
Knowtbook is ย easily the best thing that happened to me.It’s because of her kindness ,that I understood ย the true essence of blogging .
Help those who need you.I am not an affiliate ย but I still mention her everywhere.
That’s because she is one of the few bloggers who says it how it is.
Shady is not her style.
3 Things I learnt from Knowtbook this month:
1)I love the look of sliders on websites .
But apparently it slows down the site.
Plus it’s ย SEO night mare.
So slider out for me.
I don’t want to ย do anything to make my site non friendly to Google!
2)Canva has a limit to the number of copies of its ebook templates you can use for commercial use.
So what’s the ย solution for mompreneurs who are bootstrapping ?
Don’t cry ,you have GIMP.It’s an open source software totally free!
3)Blog design for solopreneurs can be a never ending time waster.
After I read this post I calmed down .

Blogging journey Ruchi Verma and Forfoodiefamily : ย Indian woman turned Influencer
Myย blogging journeyย series was my attempt to learn from women who try to do the impossible.
Ruchi with her family

People who follow their dreams always inspire.Ruchi Verma is an inspiration .
She ย doesn’t put on any airs and graces. She is what she is.
With an impressive twitter following of 18.3k this blogger is a major social media influencer. But her humility makes her very special in this aggressive world.
Her blog is an extension ย of her persona. Its like she loves her family and writes about everything ย her family and others like her would love to know about.
A Madhuri Dixit fan,Gemini and an enthusiastic foodie ,Ruchi hates insincerity.
A little bit about Ruchi and her story
Masters in Information technology, worked as lecturer in Lucknow University then HR co-coordinator in Mphasis Pune and then miracle happened and daughter Ira filled up our life with smiles โบ and HR-coordinator turned into a domestic engineer .
This is what I love to call myself. ย I took this post and enjoying every bit of it with pride. But sitting just idle at home was never my cup of tea.
Being a mom is 24/7 job but I felt loosing myself a little. So I became a part of contest world on social media.
This was a way to portray my creativity .I won many prestigious gifts from many brands. From ย Ipad to Iphone .Fully automatic washing machine to TV all on basis ย of my creativity.
This was ย definitely giving me happiness but not sense of satisfaction.I decided to take up ย creative ย writing .I wanted to share with others whatever I have done and my blogย forfoodiefamilyย born on the year 2014 Sept 8th.
Who is your reader ?
Every family member who is in search of knowledge.
Why ย should they ย read your ย blog?
Every family can follow my blog .People get confused by the name forfoodiefamily .
Itโs a knowledgeable family blog under one roof for your family โบ
But this foodie family is not only for people looking out for recipes. But my blog deals with all kind of hunger.
My blog gives you knowledge about parenting, festivals of India, event you want to know about ,reviews on your nearby restaurants and gadgets you love to buy.Recipes for non-veg lover to veg .About kids and about relationship.Your inspiration
My mom & my hubby .
My mom she is a living example of patience. Fighter in tough times and most caring loving and forgiving lady.
Once even after her entire ย luggage was stolen ,said coolly ,โI forgive that thief for stealing .Thatโs his karma and I am forgiving him for my good karm .โ
I looked up to her with questioning eyes .SERIOUSLYโ she is real gem and ย learned person I know.
My hubby Mayank is most sweet, caring , understanding and supportive person โฆname of my blog is given by him. He not only supports me but also sometimes gives me Idea about writing .
If my mom has ย inspired me ย and taught me to ย deal with all ย situations patiently ,then my hubby inspired me with his sense of humor and his ever jolly nature.
ย He is an ideal husband <3

If money comes into your bank while you sleep, that’s Passive income
When I first read Smart Passive Income by Pat ย Flynn ,I was struck by a thought.ย
Passive income needs a lot of active upfront work.

So what exactly is so smart about it?
Over the last 2 years my nonstop reading helped me realize 3 things:
ย
1)If you have a blog it’s your media mouthpiece. It’s your way to Google heart and traffic.

How to write away writer’s block:Inspiring Quotes to help
I have blogged for 2 years.Off and on.Mostly off.I was reading a lot .But writing a lot less.
Thinking about writing.Talking about writing. Then I ย always had something coming up.In this writing and exercising was in the same boat.I spent the entire day thinking about doing one or the other. But always had an excuse.Definitely ย important ones.
4 months back I wrote 2 posts a month on my blog. That too after thinking for days.
I didn’t think of writers block. Because I didn’t think I was a writer.
But I am a Bengali ,and all Bengali’s love to think they have a few untold stories in them.
Frankly speaking I started writing because my daughter was too young to understand the chatter in my brain.Plus I wanted to give myย darling hubby
a break from my rants.
Yes I rant when I don’t have stimulating book, company, events or any thing which my brain can feed on.That’s why I absolutely ย fell in love with ย my ย Blogchatter BFFs .ย
When you are all looking for the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow , it’s fun to have some company.Sharing the gold is good too.Because it actually multiplies infinitely every time you share.
That’s the same with writing. The more I write ,the more I want to write.
It’s not easy. But now I know it’s not easy for anyone.
The best ย part bloggers always have fun .Because whatever happens it’s a story right!
Like the time on Nabami, when I was standing in a crowded ย waiting room at the Sealdah station ย and writing a blog post on my ย phone. It’s not my best .But I did it.
It helped drown out the noise ,dirt ,and the two-hour wait standing!Luckily( for me ),my daughter napped on her father’s lap.
Me tapping away on the phone.Rai sleeping. My hubby looking shocked (and a tad irritated ) that I was writing standing in the middle of a crowded room. That’s mad . But you need a little madness to want to share your thoughts with random ย strangers right?
Once upon a time I read Perry Mason ย everywhere . I wanted to moonlight as a criminal lawyer.
But decided it was easier to do it in the next lifetime.Law books are something I have never attempted reading. And I read everything.
Maybe one day.The same was with writing. One day.
Then in July I did a Blogchatter half marathon daily chatter for 2 weeks.
#MyFriendAlexa challenge for 1 month in September where I wrote 15 posts in 1 month.Definitely more than what I wrote the entire year last
year.
I am doing a #Dailychatter challenge with Blogchatter again .The best part of this is , I am actually able to write everyday. The 500 word thing everyday is a good habit.Try it.
Whenever I read anything on writing it’s like eves dropping inside famous writers head.
I think of myself as work in progress .The following are a few famous quotes which help ย me ,when ย myย ย writing brain needs a little push or maybe a shove and some inspiration .ย
24 Favourite quotes on Writing by writers
“What a writer brings to any story is an attitudeโฆ” John Gregory Dunne
Why you must write everyday?
You must write every single day of your lifeโฆYou must lurk in libraries and climb the stacks like ladders to sniff books like perfumes and wear
books like hats upon your crazy headsโฆ.may you be in love every day for the next 20,000 days. And out of that love, remake a world.” Ray
Bradbury
About writer’s block…
Planning to write is not writing. Outliningโฆresearchingโฆtalking to people about what you’re doing, none of that is writing. Writing is
writing.” E.L. Doctorow
You only learn to be a better writer by actually writing.” Doris Lessing
If you don’t have time to read, you don’t have the time (or the tools) to write. Simple as that.

โLarry L. King, WD
You canโt think yourself out of a writing block; you have to write yourself out of a thinking block.
