When I started featuring other bloggers on my blog I had an ulterior motive.

I wanted to peep into their minds.

Wanted to have an understanding of why they blog .To learn how to write for years and improving with every word.

The best way to learn is by doing. That’s why #Ultimate blogging challenge with Blogchatter is fantastic.

But I absolutely loved #MyFriendAlexa.Finding the wonderful blogs making friends and learning .

One random moment 1 month back I stumbled on a post on Ilish !It was delicious. Seriously droolworthy!

I can honestly say ,that was the moment when ,I ransacked Priyanka’s blog to find more food stories.

Her book reviews are great but her take on Bengali recipes can make the serious foodie go looking for Bengali cuisine

Priyanka can write and make you imagine you are eating the food.I fell in love.

I had to learn how this woman thinks.

She is blogging for 10 years now.If that inspires you .I have more news .She blogs in both English and Bangla. She is also a freelance editor and writer.She is going to have her first solo book in print soon.

How did you start blogging Priyanka?

I begun blogging with writing poems and personal memoirs, but later revamped it into a book review blog. I believe people of my generation check out
reviews before picking up a book and a review would give them some idea. It is also a way to express my feelings, emotions and judgement about a book that
I liked or didn’t. I think it’s important to write good book reviews.

What else can we find on your blog?

There are also articles, stories, memoirs about food, especially Bengali cuisine with the #BanglaKhabar that many would find interesting and enlightening.
That’s my humble tribute to my cuisine and an attempt to bring out long forgotten or extinct dishes/recipes. I’m not a food blogger, I don’t just write
recipes, they are stories that might just bring a smile on my readers’ faces.

Who is your inspiration?

My better half, who is also a blogger and writes wonderful poems. In the blogosphere, I’d say Reshmy Pillai (of The Tales Pensive), Samarpita Sharma and
Debdatta Dasgupta Sahay (of b00kr3vi3ws) were the first book reviewers who kind of inspired me to start writing book reviews.

How to choose a career after class 12 in India(For Science students) #ThankfulThursdays

I am an ENT surgeon and a medical teacher.Dedicated to this profession for the last 17 years.

I have no intention of ever leaving it.

I also moonlight as an author, writer, blogger, creative content planner and social media manager.

Moonlight is a good word because my sunlight is dedicated to working at the hospital and the medical college and the evenings are spent writing, editing, promoting planning etc.

Career choices and one profession may be passe!It may be a time for mindfulness, but it is also a time for being a specialized generalist.

What I must tell you about choosing a career in India

Learn something.A skill which will make people want to pay you money .Once your bread and butter is settled, the sky is the limit.I honestly believe there’s no age for education or learning new things.Anyone can learn to grow and make a viable career out of new knowledge.

How to choose a career which is right for you?

You are so good at something that you are financially independent of your parents.
You are happy doing that thing.

Now while the first thing is what conventional career advisors have always said, the second loses steam when it comes to India’s happiness quotient.

What’s happiness?Why is it important?

If you are not happy doing what you love, then you will never he best at it

So you have to find one thing which ticks both boxes or find several things which together make you happy.

When you choose a course a vocation after your boards focus on these three at the least?

How far your parents will be supporting your education?
Do you plan to make a career out of this education?
What are the prospects for studying this particular course?
Are you ready for the bottom up learning needed in that particular field of study?

Whom should you talk to?

Before signing up for any course, talk to the people associated with that branch who have at least five years experience after passing out.
How are they making their living?
Senior people in the industry will give you a bird’s eye view of the timeline needed for self-sufficiency.

Does this course give you a chance to have your own setup? Ever?

I strongly believe entrepreneurship, emotional health, and money sense should be a part of course curriculum in at least from middle school.

Keeping aside wishy-washy talks you wouldn’t want to not have a stable income.That doesn’t let you plan the life you want.

Say for example the following are branches of studies associated with the Healthcare industry which are Important in a hospital(Both Government and Private)

Have opportunities for government jobs both temporary and permanent.

Have distinct opportunities for financial independence.

Technical assistance is needed in many branches of medicine and good training and experience are highly valued.

OT technician
ICU technician
Audiometry
Speech pathologist
Pharmacologist
Optometrist
Physiotherapist

But for these to work for you, you will need to study hard

Work hard.Gain experience and have a plan to set up your own setup if you want to .

In West Bengal, both Government and Private healthcare institutes are offering recognizer courses on the above at affordable rates.

Often the internship options are paid for, unlike many other branches.

Ear discharge : When should you visit the ER

Ear discharge is often a private problem. Few want to discuss it. It’s also easy to ignore since you don’t see the condition inside your ear. It’s an easily treatable and preventable condition.

In this post, I will tell you

All your options with ear discharge.
When you should definitely visit the ER.
What are your options to get treated

What are the causes of ear discharge?

Ear discharge occurs when secretions occur due to infections in various parts of the ear.

*Otitis externa : Infection involving external ear.

Furuncle/boil

Otomycosis:fungal infection

Acute otitis media
Pus gets trapped behind the eardrum and the pressure may cause the drum to rupture and pus mixed with blood gets released. This generally occurs after an untreated cold for a period of 5 to 7 days. Accompanied by fever and earache. Rupture of the eardrum occurs with a decrease in pain and pus with bloody discharge.

Chronic otitis media

When ear infection causes persistent discharge for more than 12 weeks. This often presents with ear drum perforation, ear discharge, and reduced hearing.

*Otitis media with effusion

Generally aller g ic rhinitis, adenoid tissues, and Tonsillitis may cause this. In this case, a sticky discharge occurs.

*CSF Otorrhea

Following head injury, if the junction between your ear and brain is breached the brain fluid may leak.

Potentially serious condition with a risk of meningitis.

Types of ear discharge:

Watery: CSF Fluid covering the brain. You may think water is coming out of your ear.
*Mucoid: Middle ear goblet cells are the source . Indicates ear drum perforation. This is sticky like the goo which comes out of your nose when you have a cold. It’s a white discharge from the ear.
*Pus: Otitis externa/furuncle/infected fungal infection, squamous type of Chronic otitis media.
Pus+mucus: Infected mucus, indicates ear drum perforation.Chronic otitis media mucosal type when there occurs ear drum perforation.

Blood coming out of the ear has to be managed by an ear doctor.
*Pus+blood: squamous type of Chronic otitis media potentially serious and needs urgent management.

*Pus+mucus+blood.:Chronic otitis media mucosal type with granulation
potentially serious and needs urgent management.

What are the important investigations you should do?

*Otoendoscopy: A chance for you to Visualize the inside of your own ear and see the problem.

*Pure tone audiometry: PTA. Helps to assess diminished hearing which can occur due to ear discharge.

*Tympanometry: Eardrum problems like a thinned drum, and the perforated drum is diagnosed You can also detect fluid behind an intact drum.

*HRCT temporal bone: This is computed tomography of your ear bone and helps detect, how far the disease has progressed.

What are the options for treatment for discharging the ear?

Treatment may be:
*Surgical:Chronic Otitis media squamous type( having cholesteatoma and granulations)
*Medical: Acute otitis media, Otomycosis, furuncle of the ear.
*Surgical+Medical: Chronic otitis media

What are the other complaints associated with ear discharge?

*Swelling behind the ear: post-aural abscess
*Partial or complete loss of hearing

Ear ache: more common in acute otitis media, ear furuncle, and fungal ear infection.Less common in chronic otitis media. If earache occurs in Chronic otitis media it’s considered a dangerous sign.

*Ringing sound in the ear: Tinnitus

*Acute and chronic mastoiditis Infection and inflammation of the Mastoid bone.
*Post aural fistula: Opening in the skin behind the ear connecting with the Mastoid bone.(This occurs in Chronic otitis media eroding the bone .)

*Accompanying signs such as fever and headache often indicate the potential involvement of the brain.
Meningitis, Brain abscess, and other intracranial complications.

*Facial palsy: Disease can cause involvement of the facial nerve.Deviation of mouth, difficulty closing eye, the problem with chewing, eating, blowing, and puffing.

Treatment depends on the exact cause

Often ear discharge is a symptom ignored for a long. Avoidance of the problem will put you at risk of serious complications including, permanent hearing loss. Like a friend of mine, who after ignoring repeated bouts of airplane ear developed chronic otitis media and persistent ear discharge.

When should you visit the ER, with ear discharge?

Ear pain not decreasing
Profuse bleeding from the ear
Slap injury /sharp injury to the ear
High-grade fever with ear discharge and headache
Ear discharge with dizziness nausea and vomiting
Sudden hearing loss with ear discharge
Facial deviation with ear discharge
Swelling behind the ear with ear discharge

These are all danger signs and need immediate intervention.

I had first weight trained when I started my MBBS studies.Didn’t know much about pros and cons of strength training .

But I fell in love with barbells, dumbbells, deadlifts overhead presses, pull ups, squats!Everything.

Weight loss for women has myths surrounding it making the truth invisible

Will you lose weight?

This will largely depend upon your diet and your genes.

Will you become stronger?

Yes definitely.

Will you look great and feel awesome?

Absolutely .

Lifting heavy weights will make you bulky.
It’s bad for your joints
When you have muscle if you stop lifting it will become fat.
You will lose your femininity.

Standing burns calories, more than sitting.

Walking is better than standing and strength training is better than walking!

Start lifting heavy weights .Lift everything. The stronger you are the better you will feel.The more confident you will be.

But it’s important to talk to your brain.Because exercise has a lot to do with your mind. What makes you happy?

The Joint Commission International Accreditation USA is the recognized leader in handing out quality checks to international healthcare institutes. JCI doesn’t give accreditation and its stamp of approval forever though.
