This poem was written by Anuprita Misra for a school project on the occasion of Independence Day
On 15th August 1947, a historical day,
A major event took place.
Our country became independent And to thank, we have our ascendants. India was free of Colonial rule, Which was certainly a reason to be joyful.
We can now choose our leader instead of a hereditary ruler.
Great pains were taken, many wars fought,
Lives lost and lessons taught.
The freedom struggle lasted long The fighters & were valiant all along. And at last-we were FREE!
India, full of valleys, rivers, plains and trees.
We musn’tย forget the martyrs, without whom life would be sad for us.
Bhagat Singh, Rajguru, Sukhdev, Netaji Subhas Chandra and Khudiram Bose Laid down their lives, for us to have better times. Because of them our country is proud
The National anthem is sung aloud.
Saffron, white and green.
Do you know what that means?
Saffron shows our strength and courage
along with sacrifice and the bravery,
makes a fine image.
White represents peace and dharma,
and of course truth, while the
Ashoka chakra
maintains balance among it all.
Between life and death, work on duty’s call.
Green symbolises fertility and growth,
auspiciousness and beauty, both.
The Tiranga stands proud and tall,
for it the freedom fighters took a
fall.
Let’s celebrate this event today,
HAPPY INDEPENDENCE DAY!
