Mompreneur’s biz focus is my blog series on inspiration.
Inspiration for all moms who are torn with difficult choices.
Give up your career ?Not use your training ?Give up financial freedom ?
Your child will have one childhood and you want to be there for him/her.
It maynot be possible for most of you,due to various reasons. But whatever you are doing ,whatever your choice is,I understand.Being a mom is always about dealing the best hand, with the worst card.
Science supports moms, who want work from home, flexible work options .But we are still waiting.
All corporate bigshot have mothers. When on the policy makers chair they forget, that world without women will be impossible.
Rights unfortunately are not easy to get.Its about child’s right to a mother’s care. It’s about a womans right to work and be financially independent. Its about balance.
Today I have on my blog Tina Basu – she will give you the inspiration to have it all.She literally can “bake her cake,& eat it too!”
Currently busy with the most important job of her life – running
around a super active toddler, her son Bluey. She manages 2 blogs,is a freelance designer and a brand visibility expert. All this from home.Did I mention one of her blog is a food blog (so she cooks too) and she’ stunning.Today we will hear about Tina’s journey in her own words .
Tell us the story behind your blogging journey.
Hi I am Tina, blogger by hobby, an author by chance, an Ex- corporate girl by choice .After completing my post grad exams I joined one of the biggest FMCG companies in India, and I went on to work with them for 7 years.
With Bluey’s homecoming I decided to quit. I was not willing to trade his childhood and antics for any damn thing in this world.
I welcomed my bundle of joy about a year back . Through out the pregnancy I had one thing clear in my mind . I am going to enjoy this journey ,up close and personal. I want to take entire control of my baby’s well-being, food, sleep, up bringing ,everything.
I didn’t want to depend on any other soul for this .I wanted to be a hands-on mom. I didn’t want to trust a maid, or a creche.Nor did I want my parents or in-laws to get busy with bringing up their grandson. If that meant putting my career in trade marketing on hold and quitting my almost seven-year old job in one of India’s biggest FMCG company ,I was okay with it. I know ,later I won’t regret missing out on his childhood.I have been blogging since 2011 but have always been a passive blogger, writing in my free time. But it’s now, that I have taken up blogging as a full time passion.
While I was expecting my child, I happened to become a published author in three anthologies – Blank Space, A Little Chorus of Love and 6 degrees The Game of Blogs.
Writing has always been a passion, but when you know – sky is the limit you can do a lot of things. In an all India Blogging contest hosted by Blogadda, our team By Lines won the challenge with a science fiction which is published in 6 Degrees.I regularly write in my lifestyle blog www.tinabasu.com .I am also a food obsessed girl and love cooking up something new for the family is a favourite hobby. This passion for food gave rise to Twinkling Tina Cooks – my food blog .Here I share my recipes and help people with cooking up easy meals.
Now since my son is a year old I have started doing freelance design and branding work for brands ranging from interior designing to food.
I am a creative person by nature, and design comes naturally to me.
Because I have a child, it can’t restrict me to doing only my mom duties and letting my Masters in
Communication degree go to waste. After becoming a mom, you realize you are a superwoman and can do anything and (almost) everything.
I am a multitasker and now currently,I am focusing on blogging and branding in my way. Isn’t that what inspire you to be a momprenuer?
Who do I write for?
Food lovers, novice amateur cooks, young food enthusiasts, international food lovers – I make sure all my recipes are easy and doable even if you are making it for the first time.So I am not some one to share a foie gras – if it isn’t easy, I won’t share it.
What else do I do?
Branding – Corporates, small to medium businesses. also do freelance branding and designing work– out of passion and being in touch with my profession! It includes communication materials, product packaging, brand visibility etc.
Since I have worked on branding and marketing for a food company, I find it easier to understand the need of the client from that background.
I also offer copywriting and content writing services when required by the client.
What’s special about your blogs?
My food blog focuses on simplicity.Food – Easy to make, with simple ingredients – something that anyone can do.
Branding – I get very competitive about my designs and branding and I offer quality work. Clients are happy with the quality and that matters to me.
Tell us about your inspiration
One of my colleagues quit his job to become a serious entrepreneur and not lead a life of the corporate rat race. Unless you take that step of quitting you can never be on your own.
I wanted to be on my own for sometime now because my niche requires skill and I am a Subject Matter Expert (SME) in the work I do.
My dad, who is a Urologist and a practicing surgeon, always told be one thing – skilled professionals should be their own king – not run for some one else!
His words are quite inspiring (when I give it a thought and not shush him JLT)
Your favourite quote
Yesterday is history, tomorrow is a mystery, today is a gift of God, which is why we call it the present – Bil Keane
That is exactly what I am doing now – living the gift – of life.
3 tips & Your message for struggling mompreneurs
1.Believe in yourself and your abilities. Mom is the best thing for a child .Just because you are mom, it’s not an end to your career.
2. When you are a mom you are born to be a multitasker. Investing time for childcare is important and so is your financial freedom.
Figure out your skillset, if required brush up on it.
3. NEVER work for free – even if its for friends or family!
What’s your vision with this venture.
I have a plan for recipe e-book but it will take some time.
Writing – I plan to write a novel – solo novel – have some ideas but have to build on it.
My Food Blog – I want to make it one of the top food blogs on the internet.
Branding – I see myself opening a startup advertising agency sometime in future, when I can invest some more time.
Are you involved in any charitable causes ?
I give food and clothes in orphanages for Rotary Club and Inner Wheel Club ,where my parents are active too.
What other services do you offer?
Apart from Blogging and writing, I also do freelance branding and designing work– out of passion and being in touch with my profession! It includes –
communication materials, product packaging, brand visibility etc.
