Life lessons learned in the last decade & 2019

Life lessons
Life lessons

Life and its lessons.  Do you learn from your own mistakes and other people’s follies?  If it’s from both then this could help you, if it’s the former only then that’s another story.

I was an avid reader since I was seven and if one habit  I am trying to teach my daughter, other than persistence, is reading. The ability to read with intent, understand assimilate and take action is a skill that can be learned.

But like everything else in life which gives us joy, it needs to be from a place of enjoyment. If it’s just a chore to be done then it loses its point.

Reading gives me immense pleasure. I could spend my entire day reading and staring at green mountains, with only tea for company. But adulting involves taking responsibility and giving back.  That’s where this post comes in.

I can’t tell you how to live, what to do and how to think.  Even if I do tell you it’s unlikely to help because we all have different needs wants and are at different junctions in this life maze.

What I can do is share my journey and maybe it will help someone somewhere. Just like I am helped every day, by the written words.

10 Life Lessons I learned in the last decade & 2019

Winding up 2019 and the last decade with a few memories and insights. I think growing older has a lot of advantages. It gives clarity of purpose that I definitely didn’t have as a teenager. Grey hair, wisdom, and peace of mind seem to be strangely entwined.

Life lessons learned in the last decade & 2019

#10 Life is good.I am grateful .#gratitudeattitude is a superpower

#9 Mother nature helps you find the balance between mind, body, and soul.

# 8 Beauty always lies in the eyes of the beholder. Being beautiful means having the right people in your life and doing good work. What’s inside always shows.

Life lessons 2018

# 7 The grass on the other bank is always looking greener, but loving your side of the bank will help you live life with grace.

# 6 All those who ask for help, receive it. Unsolicited advice & help doesn’t do much. Because the receiver is not ready. You can’t help everyone. But you can help the one who does ask

# 5 Life is unpredictable what you think is great now will leave you feeling indifferent after a few years. Don’t lose your sleep over the small stuff.

# 4 How do you know what is worth losing sleep over? Nothing actually. Sleep is the most important and free healthy habit that keeps your body mind and spirit healthy. After 13 years of night duties and 36 hours shifts, when we both resigned from our jobs at the Government Medical College, that was the biggest gift we gifted ourselves. Sleep deficit just never gets corrected. The least I can do is not crank it up further. Working for ourselves has its ups and downs, but its what we decided to do.

Lessons of 2016

# 3 Opportunity cost is important . Should you do or not do something depends on this very important thing.

# 2 Save as much as you can and start early. Avoid credit cards as much as possible and credit card debts at all costs. Financial freedom is possible but you do need to make some sacrifices. The question is which ones are important for you.

# 1 Life is the best adventure and you can never say never.

  1. I so agree with you on all the 10 points you shared…rather the 10 lessons that this decade taught you. It’s somewhat along the lines of what I learned too!

  2. At the end of the year, my wife and I look back to see the highlights and the low-lights of the year as we plan out the coming year! You had some great lessons. Thanks.
