3 Tricky Questions about Blogging challenges

I love Challenges .Let me rephrase .I love fun challenges. But I am often at the receiving end of tricky queries. The answers though may make you angry. But don’t blame me.I am just the messenger .

The words are floating in the ether.

Why do you even try these blog challenges?

They are a lot of work right?

The results are so fickle !Its a big pain following the rules.

Who wants to read other people ?You just want people to read you.

You don’t really like reading ,so reading other blogs is out of the question.

The last two I have no answer to give but for the first three ,I want to share a few secrets.

BLOGGING CHALLENGES:Why participate?

Why do you even try these blog challenges?

I try these Challenges because they teach me something new  everytime. The participants and the hosts. The energy of the collective is always much more than the individual. If you don’t believe that, you probably operate on a different wavelength than I do. But that’s okay too. If you are reading this it means,we cross somewhere. That’s where we become friends.

I have made all my writer friends online. They are some of the most helpful and generous people. Not that they promised to share their retirement funds, but they are  generous with their time and knowledge. ????

If you have never read anyone’s blog don’t be sad if no one reads yours. The world strives for balance. You will find the people you need and those who need you. Your blog will find its readers when you read others in challenges. I too am built that way.

They are a lot of Work.

There’s no going around this. You need to write. But you don’t want to write now, today and till the next blue moon. But the Challenge will make you write. Maybe not a masterpiece, but you will write. They help me write.

But what about the copious reading?Well why did you sign up for the challenge? You wanted a readership right? The payment for getting a readership initially will come from being a reader.Your Challenge companions will read and share your posts. Then slowly you will have more readers, than you read.

That happens slowly over time.None of this helps you make money ,you say?

Oh that’s there.But sometimes benefits aren’t linear .

The results are fickle and the rules are a pain.

The results are fickle because we are fickle following the rules. Rules are always a pain. That’s the nature of rules. But you need to know your why and let your Ikigai guide you.

Every year I plan, this, that, etc to write, but I end up with my thoughts, memories, and learnings. Maybe one day I will be more productive. For now, this 2020 we are all making history by staying alive and blogging on ! Currently, I am participating in two blogging challenges, and its fun.

  1. Great thoughts about blogging. I love a challenge and seem to have the need to finish something once I start. But as you mentioned, we have to give to receive, we can’t just write and expect others to read our blogs if it’s only one sided. My stats prove that.

  2. It does take time, and I often wonder if it’s worth it. But I enjoy blogging, and maybe one day people will discover my books, and I’ll have a readership. Blog on sister.

  3. I agree. I normally concentrate on specific subjects for my blog, but during challenges, I try different things to see what drives the other participants to click on my link. It could mean that I need to add things that work or subtract things that don’t. It’s also good practice for working on post titles to see what grabs attention. Like yours. That’s why I clicked. ????

  4. I like writing challenges because I love words and writing. I like to hear about other people’s stories, how they struggle and persevere. I like learning from others. I like community. It is work. That’s why it’s a challenge. I like rules. I like respecting rules. If you don’t like the rules, you should not participate then. At the same time, I don’t get bent out of shape if someone else doesn’t disrepect them. It’s them. Not me.
