How did six months of 2020 zoom past cooking, cleaning and staying focused? Well, your guess is as good as mine. But things are changing now, so how do you stay healthy, safe, and manage the unlock-down happening in India?

I am an ENT surgeon, and I plan to share with you ten easy steps to try and live your healthiest life. As we go back to life, or some semblance of it, we realize that nothing is as it was. Now we must wear a mask, maintain social distance, and avoid crowds. None of this is easy, but you and me, we can do it!

But what exactly can you do to ensure your health remains at an optimum level in India during these times?

10 Powerful ways to have a High Health Score

1) Exercise every day – no shortcuts for this

It’s the best way to beat the blues. At least 40 minutes of cardiovascular exercise of moderate intensity is needed for maintaining good heart health. If running is not your thing, then walk. It’s beneficial to invest in a treadmill for your home. Walking is a kind of exercise you can easily do every day.

2) Wear your mask and don’t forget social distancing

If you are a healthcare worker, you need an N95 mask. In other cases, disposable surgical masks or reusable cloth masks also work.

3) Quality time for you

Spend quality time with family and enjoy a creative hobby. Reading, writing, art, music, dance help boost endorphins, in turn boosting your immunity.

4) Having a good health insurance plan

Even when you have group insurance through your company or workplace, never skip on a personal family health insurance. When we had to leave our jobs, we would have been without health insurance if we didn’t have a family health plan.

ICICI Lombard’s complete health insurance is one you can check. It gives you a host of benefits, especially hassle-free cashless claim approvals. Apart from that, they have also released a Take Care app – especially to help you manage your health better in times of unlock-down. It keeps you updated about your health insurance, lists of hospitals, doctors available in OPD facilities, and much more – all in one easy-to-use app. This will help you get timely reviews for any pre-existing diseases too.

5) Eat healthy at every meal

Lockdown has taken our meal planning for a toss – now with easy access to our kitchen and fridge, we have forgotten what is healthy balance like. An easy step to remedy this would be to keep a good portion of fruits and vegetables as part of your diet. But if this doesn’t come easy to you, then as part of Take Care App, you get access to diet consultants too – and so meal planning is almost as good as a chat message away.

6) Optimism boosts immunity

While a healthy meal plan is always key to immunity, stress free life is equally important for same. Being positive helps lower the rush of corticosteroids in your bloodstream and combat stressful situations. Further, it helps to do yoga or any other kind of meditation to maintain focus and relax your mind. Additionally, remember that as part of Take Care App – You also have access to stress management consultants – that you can always use to check in if need be.

7) Don’t forget the beauty sleep

With day and night merging into each other, our sleep cycles have gone for a toss. A good eight hours of sleep is a must and helps balance our mind and body.

8) Bring a few plants home

Having nature indoors boosts mental health and improves optimism—both are great for building your health in these testing times.

9) Keep your medical conditions under check

Take your medicines regularly, especially if you are suffering from serious medical conditions like diabetes, hypertension, thyroid disorders, asthma, heart disease, etc. But in times like these where social distancing norms and lockdown measures are still in place, easy access to online pharmacies through the Take Care app comes very handy.

If you are an ICICI Lombard policy member, then this app can offer you delivery of medicines at your doorstep at the click of an app.

10) Avoid addictions

Smoking, chewing gutka or tobacco, drugs, and alcohol are not your friends.

We must focus on healthy habits, doing productive work, and long-term financial goals. This will help return our inner peace. Being healthy is the best option, but excellent health insurance is not far behind! Here’s to a being a step ahead and #RestartRight.

The first half of the year has been a different kind of a ride – with our world slowly opening up and offering a window of normalcy, it is important that you follow these ten steps and Restart Right. Here’s hoping to a safe and healthy start to you and your family!
