Happiness and coping skills:How you can help your children

Did you know happiness is  contagious ?
If you are happy ,good things happen.
If you are happy the weather is perfect .
If you are happy, your children smile.

Are happy people more successful?
Or  are successful people more happy?

Growing up my childhood memories are mixed .

Memories typically have a rosy  tint .
But one thing about life experiences ,they make you what you are.
Good ,bad and not so pretty .Your scars truly make you you.

Wear your scars with pride .

Out of suffering have emerged the strongest souls; the most massive characters are seared with scars” –Kahlil Gibran
Happiness and coping skills

That’s why protecting children from conflict  and challenges is not a good idea.

This doesn’t mean you fight, scream and have unpleasantness at home.

It means let them learn to disagree with each other .Disagree but live in harmony.

Let them occasionally fight .Then make up.
Let them have heartaches and doubts .

Let them learn from betrayal.
Let them have their dreams broken.

Nothing that you plan is going to work out. Everything is going to be totally different than the way you expected. And things will constantly challenge you. Wherever you look the world is not as solid it seems to be.” –Eckhart Tolle
Coping skills and success

Change truly is the only constant.
The better you cope with change. The happier you are.

Diseases help your body develop immunity .
Your mind develops it’s strengths from adversity.

Let them learn to patch their souls.
Teach them to dream new dreams.
Help them persist and persevere .

“When life gives you lemons
You make lemonade”

That should be the mantra .

Give them the education , the life tools ,resources to battle life’s pitfalls .

Teach them to rise like a Phoenix . Each time .Every time.

As parents you and me have the most important job .

To make beautiful responsible people.
People who love care, share .Not looking at colour ,race, geography ,gender.
But always with kindness and compassion .

“It is our darkest moments that we must focus on the light.” –Aristotle Onassis

In these divisive times. You as a mother  can help.Make  them  prepared to fight.

Fight against injustices, rise above intolerance .To stand up for themselves . Be the voice of those who have lost theirs.

If we lose empathy ,kindness ,compassion, don’t we stand to lose humanity ?

Consciousness makes us superior to others in the animal kingdom . You need to make this consciousness strong.
Sensitive .
But strong.
Sounds confusing right ?

Sensitive to others distress.
Strong in own distress. That’s a healthy consciousness .

When people fight, kill each other. When nothing makes sense.

Thats when we need to remember.
Remember that wars have helped no one.

Pigeon holes have made only pigeons happy .
Let us teach our children to recognize truths. To know right from wrong. Not be stuck in mind prisons.
Not be afraid .

Challenges are what make life interesting and overcoming them is what makes life meaningful.” –Joshua J. Marine

To succeed where others have failed . To persist when others have given up.To go forward when others have stopped .

In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure.” –Bill Cosby

Happiness and success are life skills. As parents you give your children these treasures.

You  can only give what you  have.
So if you have self  doubts ,fears, anger, distrust .Remove them from your  mind. This is the time to work on yourself.Until you do that ,nothing can help.

Because that’s your mind clutter.
That’s what prevents  happiness and success from staying forever.
Happiness cannot be traveled to, owned, earned, or worn.It is the spiritual experience of living every minute with love, grace and gratitude.” –Denis Waitley

Teach your children to live with grace .Live life with thankfulness.Every moment . Every day. This is what I want to teach my daughter too. It’s a journey. We are learning too.
Let’s do  this together.

Still love
Still trust.
Still believe .
Because life truly is beautiful .

Do you believe happiness attracts success ?
Do you believe our scars make us stronger?

  1. This was like the perfect answer to my own post, everything you say here makes so much sense, and I juts need to focus on he light right now xx #mg

  2. As a special needs parent I find this difficult but necessary to teach my children. I’m more protective when I know the word can be cruel and I want to shelter my son with autism from any hurt. He lives and loves with his whole being and he teaches me more with his resilience than what I teach him about the way the world works. He’s happy and healthy and really that’s all that matters. ????

  3. This is so very true- my son definitely takes his cues from his parents about his behavior and his mood. We try to remain calm and allow him to develop his own feelings about a situation before we react.

  4. Hi, Amrita ma’am… I believe this post has made a perfect beginning… as I start my day a lil early today….

I completely agree with the points you have stated… but it’s upsetting when I find many around us doesn’t find value to it,
(it’s a perfect post from them too)

    1. Thank you Abhirup. The people who don’t realize this now will do so someday.Don’t waste your emotions over them .Take care.

  5. A very thoughtful and motivating post! Its so true…. teaching your kids to persistent and to adapt to the changes they have to face is what will make them go forward in life!

  6. Lovely! I likes all the pointers you want us to teach children. I would love to teach children to be happy, and trying to do that always. Being a strict mom and a friendly mom is such a difficult task for moms.

  7. I agree Happiness is everything and to me happy people are more successful anytime. In everything we face in our life there is a positive light which we should look in to, that can take us to the joyful path sometime sooner or later! Thanks for inspiring!

  8. One of your most beautifully written posts, so far, Dr Amrita.
I loved this line ‘Let them learn to patch their souls.’
Yes, children should not be treated like fragile beings, cocooned from the realities of life and the world. Encouraging them to think and to recover from hurt only makes them stronger.
This post should be made mandatory reading for all parents!

    1. Thank you so much Mayuri. You really made my day.The “patching up soul” part we all have to learn .Otherwise we will have holes in our souls. That’s not good at all.
      God bless .

  9. Agree. Experience is the best teacher and it shapes child’s development too. So, yes, we must let our children explore and learn as they grow.

  10. ‘Happiness and success are life skills. As parents you give your children these treasures.’ So true Amrita. All the points you mentioned are true and can make our kids successful and happy. Thanks for linking with #MommyMondayMoments
