THursday Tree love is stuck in my brain for some time :Finally able to do it.
THursday Tree love is stuck in my brain for some time :Finally able to do it.

I have thought of joining this blog hop for some time. But kept missing somehow. But today I remembered.

My blogging journey and balcony garden are approximately of the same duration.About two and a half to three years.I can honestly tell you that I wrote only thesis papers and scientific papers before that. The last time I wrote a story was in school. Then I started blogging .i can write when I have a view of my potted plants around.I have a wish to have trees too in my balcony!

But that’s not practical. So I do with those that will survive in the microclimate of a balcony.

Thursday Tree love: No longer a sapling, not yet a tree.Maui yellow Ixora

I so want to share my balcony pics.Because here on Thursday Tree love I have people who love green as much as I do.There’s immense pleasure in appreciating nature and being inspired by it.

Before buying plants for my balcony I check 3 things.

  • Flowering or nonflowering.
  • Light and water needs.
  • Seasonal, annual or perennial.

Stressing about my plants is a part of having your own garden.More so since we travel frequently.Luckily God has given me helpful Sister-in-law and a brother-in-law, who pitches in too.So they plant sit my plant babies when we travel and catch up with life away from hospital stuff.

the only way to survive in this concrete world with its daily dose of violent death and disease it’s important to find more things and people who are sharing positive stories. This ThursdayTree love is definitely one such.

Today I am sharing a picture of the Ixora yellow also called Maui yellow Ixora. It is one of the easiest plants to grow in a balcony. Not finicky at all.Blooms throughout the year. It’s a tropical evergreen shrub. But can grow to be quite tall.Mine is about two and a half feet now and has been with me for four years. It likes the hot sun .full sun is preferred .this time of the year my bedroom window box gets the maximum sunlight. It blooms there. It loves acidic well drained soil and has bright and sunny yellow blooms in beautiful clusters.

Thursday Tree love is stuck in my brain for some time : Finally able to do it.

This post is also part of an experiment where an Orange Ixora is also planted in the same pot. Will reveal the full pic next week!

I planted it in an old plastic tub since I was recycling. Now I never buy plastic pots or tubs. It’s a pain when you want to re-pot!The only thing that matters more than not cutting down trees is planting more of them.Every day .community gardens ,vertical gardens ,rooftop gardens.Plant where you are.

Do you garden ?let me know about what’s blooming in your garden now in the comments below.

  1. About until a year back, I used to have a small red Ixora plant, which got infested and died a few months later. But, never before seen these bright yellow ones. Your balcony must be lit up with the radiance of these beauties! Since you asked, I too enjoy balcony gardening, Amrita. It gives me a great sense of joy to tend to my plants every morning.

  2. Beautiful! Yellow Ixora is not very common. I too have a balcony garden… many are bonsai in training. Its a struggle to get them sufficient sunlight but the joy in seeing them prosper is unmatched!

  3. I have a small porch with rail pots and pants on the porch. right below is a small plot where I am waiting for my sunflowers to bloom

  4. Great balcony trees! A few years ago, I purchased a bunch of plants (and tomatoes) without considering light and water needs. Needless to say, it resulted in a week of beauty and waste of money thereafter. The plants did not make it. Glad you mentioned these considerations!

  5. That tree looks absolutely amazing. I haven’t gardened in a while to be honest. I would love to do it more often but the last couple of years have kept me busy with other things. This is so great.

  6. How beautiful and what a vibrant color. Goes to show that trees and gardens can grow just about anywhere! So glad I found the Tree Love blog hop!

  7. I’ve never been big on gardening as I thought I wasn’t good at it but I would love to get back into ti. Thanks for sharing these tips an dwhat to look out for when buying plants.

  8. I’ve never seen or heard of either but the yellow one is very pretty and I look forward to seeing the orange one!
