The Plant Paradox In Review

The Plant Paradox:The hidden dangers in healthy food that cause disease and weight gain by Dr.Steven R.Gundry MD takes nutrition tips from various sources and turns them upside down.

But what he says can be corroborated to some extent .But they need randomized controlled trials I different parts of the world to find out what really sticks.

The problem with nutrition tips from across the world is people eat not only according to what’s part of their culture but aksk what’s freshly available locally.

And so it should be.

Fresh and local indigenous food suits the people of the land

Just like exotic plants may not suit a soil or climate type.Foid traveling by plane  frozen and eaten as healthy” may not be exactly that.

To prove either way we will need functional imaging of food being eaten, broken down, absorbed assimilated and follow its effect in the body long term both fresh and frozen.Currently I don’t know of any such method.

That’s why the booming supplement market keeps on growing.

The Plant Paradox In Review

Because we simply don’t know God sure how much of  the good supplements the body actually uses .

This is unlike the real fresh food scenario.

Infact there are multiple studies to show that food rich in vitamins and minerals are always recommended to stay healthy. Its recommended for health and even in diseases. But medically during acute infection  certain supplements are to be withheld. The germs get stronger and the cancer grows faster.

So one Rule doesn’t fit all .So what’s the best way to eat?

Eat so that you feel healthy and strong.

Listen to your gut. It should be happy and not grumbling.

Skip to food that energizes you and doesn’t make you pop pills.

Eat food whose ingredients you can see .Whole food wins over processed, mashed, smoothies, puried, passes.

Anything which looks unlike what it’s made of is unlikely to have what you think it does.

Read the sentence again slowly.

So what does this have to do with what Dr .Gundry says?

Well I expect you to use common sense for common things and consult a doctor in person for health and medical issues .Don’t make random dietary changes without professional advice

Truth bombs about lectins.

The plants which don’t want to be eaten.

Cows milk A2 protein.

Rice or wheat which is better.Thr answer will surprise you.

What about whole grains? This one is tricky. While we have all read and listened to the food, nutrition industry talking about whole grains. The truth is not easy to digest and makes you flounder. It’s the veritable maze of truths half truths and falsehoods where the wrong choice makes some one richer and your health poorer.

It’s only your body who is on your side.So if you are a healthy, active person with a within normal range body weight, remember to keep a journal of what you eat,how much, when and how you feel.

That Diary will help someone in the future .

Right now we need more randomized controlled trials without vested interest.

Foods needn’t be demonized .

But some food you don’t need .

Some plants don’t want to be eaten. In the plant kingdom just like us they know about survival of the fittest.

It’s not easy what withvegetarian  ,vegans, raw food diets becoming a rage everywhere ,could the plant kingdom could day be wiped clean?

Eating plant based food is no doubt good for our digestion in many ways .But some of it is not for everyone

It’s also good for the world, less global warming

But it has been seen even fish based diets are good and only 2% more heat producing than plan based .

What about nuts?

Say no to peanuts, cashews. Not really a nut.

The rest depends  on your calorie requirements.

Fruits interesting theory

Fructose and glucose.

Fructose skips the glucose monitoring and increases blood sugar .Fresh is good.Choose the right kind.

But in fruits these simple sugars, behaves differently from molecular state.

Except for plain water everything kicks off insulin release.

Food with insulin like growth factor are to be kept in mind.

What causes insulin resistance and its effect on your body

What about glycemic index?

Tomatoes?

Do you eat them or not?All this and more.Give this book a read and it just might surprise you.

I am participating in Ultimate Blog Challenge and #BlogchatterA2Z. This is letter I and with schools in full swing I am drowning in HCF,LCM and the new syllabus.

  1. This book sounds interesting.. i am going to look for it. given we are life long vegetarians, our choices are governed by the food we grew up with, and also by the foods we are exposed to as we learn more

  2. this sounds like a very interesting book! Of the entire list, the one about processed food stands out the most. That is one thing I try to eat at a minimum.
