If you could change into your favorite character, which would be it?
I thought hard, and I came up with three!
- Hermione Granger
- Feluda
- Mr. Hercule Poirot
Yes, that’s it. I wouldn’t mind a combination of all three brains. But I would prefer to be a woman. When Blogchatter gives us such fun assignments, I can’t write about it and so here it goes.
Hermione Granger
I assume you know Hermione. For the uninitiated. She is born to a regular human (muggle parents) Is a super smart girl born with magic and is one of Harry Potter’s besties. Hermione helps Harry save the world from Voldemort. She is married to Ronald Weasley and makes magic look cool. I especially like her handbag which has endless space and looks perfectly moderate-sized from the outside. Her ability to do her work despite external chaos. Plus, her tremendous zeal to learn and find answers in libraries. I am not Superwoman material. Though I wish I was. I get allergies and I cry easily. But I could work at being magical easily, given the chance.
For those who don’t know ,Hermione is a character in the Harry Potter series written by J. K. Rowling.
Feluda
Satyajit Ray created this iconic character. His name is Pradosh Chandra Mitra, who, together with his friend Lal Mohan Ganguli and cousin brother Topshe or Tapesh Ranjan, solved many a crime while traveling all over India.
Feluda inspires my Krishna Mishra series. He makes solving crime look like a doable profession while he explores his love for reading and traveling. He keeps a good relationship with people and here too you will find his love of reading and books playing a big part. His friend Lal Mohan Ganguli is a successful writer and writes mysteries too!
What’s not to like about Feluda? His quick thinking. His agile mind, ability to remember and recollect crucial information, and insight into human nature, make him invincible. After Soumitra Chatterjee, anybody who portrays Feluda falls short. Because he was good-looking, tall, looked intelligent, and radiated a level of confidence, which is hard to project if you aren’t confident in real life. After watching several Feluda movies over the years, I am resigned to the fact that there will be no one quite good enough on screen, so I can be Feluda in my imagination, right?
But on another note, I think Anirban of Gumnami Baba fame might do an excellent job of Feluda. His height, voice, and physicality could work. Plus he is a great actor. Much needed if we want to stop destroying the Feluda stories.
Hercule Poirot
Third on the list is Hercule Poirot. He may be third on this list but is easily my favorite sleuth ever. Though Poirot never does too much of the physical detecting part, I love how he uses his ‘little grey cells to unravel mysteries that look impossible at the first glance. I never tire of reading and rereading his books and if you are a mystery lover and haven’t yet read Hercule Poirot, I must insist you make up for lost time right away!
Just like what we eat is important for our body and mind. What we read, see, feel, and hear are important for our mind and soul. Growing up and sustaining myself on a diet of good mysteries and adventures helped me become a doctor. This insatiable interest to find out the why behind diseases started early with the books where these characters lived. A big thank you to all the creators who help us find ourselves.
