The Life Changing Magic of Clearing Up in Review

The Life Changing Magic of Clearing Up Marie Kondo is a book which is Life changing. This blog post is not just a review but almost an attempt to record my own experience with the book.

Because there’s no way you will be able to read the book cover to cover if you are not serious about clearing up.

Once you do read it .It stays with you.

Exactly how much that is possible to assess only looking back.So for now I will tell you about when I read it and why I read it and what happened .

First a few things which Mary says which are crucial to remember.

Declutter first .That’s when you work against your nature.

Organizing, cleaning and decorating comes later .

Clothes first. I am still in the my clothes stage ,I am encouraging my family members to start discarding what they don’t feel sparks joy(more about that later).

Your stuff first. This is life changing. While cleaning up and throwing away I realize growing up no one is taught decluttering, organizing or cleaning on a systematic or fun way.Its probably because no one taught that to anybody. So a lot if firsts to remember.

Mary’s book is so contagious, that every day I am realizing I need less stuff everywhere if I plan to live the life I dream of.

So that in nutshell is my takeaways from.the book.

You can also read my lessons from Make Room For What You Love, Love the Home You Have, and about the Magic of Clearing Up.

What works for the book?

It’s easy to read.Simple lucid friendly language. You feel Marie Kondo is just like you and me except she is way more organized.

3 Things I learned :

How to fold anything into a rectangle and standing them up.

To always have a place to keep something before buying them or bringing them home.A place for everything means you can put away everything in its place. Both these are illustrated beautifully in her other book Spark Joy

Never throw away declutter other people’s stuff without them doing the decision making Then they will rebound .

The book is just the right length. Is not preachy.Prevents overwhelm by giving real care study examples including when it’s not a rebound .

Example when you have a pile of laundry which needs to be folded and put away.It will look daunting and you may feel that it’s a rebound. But wait .Can you put them away in their places once you have some lovely music to groove to?

If that’s a yes then that’s just life happening.

So stick with it.This book is a treasure for moms and a heirloom to be pased on to kids.

Marie Kondo is a new York best selling author .She is famous for the Kon Marie method .She has her own business helping other people clear up their homes and their lives. Its not easy but she manages .

am participating in Ultimate Blog Challenge and #BlogchatterA2Z. This is letter L.I am missing letters in between .But let’s see what happens.I am becoming the queen of procrastination or life has become busy?Let me know how busy is your life?Do you declutter regularly?

  1. While i am not sure i can declutter the marie kondo way, we recently did a major decluttering when we got a garden shed (ironic, i know!) but having specific places for things did help here.. and now we know where things are – the ones we really need:) and i love the way she organizes clothes!
