India Travel Book: Learning through Journeying by Dr.Manju Thakur

Learning through journeying is a  book written by Dr.Manju Thakur. This is  not just collection of a travel stories but full of nuggets of wisdom and  life lessons, learned while travelling .Dr.Thakur is popularly known as Mann and shares her stories, with a sense of humour and wit to make this more than a travelogue. It’s a self help and adventure series, all in one. It’s an India Travel book, with the authors own experiences colouring the pages. Its not a checklist of facts and maps, but is more of an appetizer to plan your next adventure in India.

My favourite Life lessons from the book

  • Climbing mountains with your friends helps you know who are friends.
  • Your strengths will help you fo amazing things. There’s always a rainbow at the end of the thundershower.
  • God helps those who help themselves
  • Some crazy stories make your life well lived.

I have traveled to Shimla twice ,but the adventures she talked about, needs another visit.Avoiding spoilers ,I just have to tell you that, the author talks about little known travel destinations, which will  entice the nature lover in you.If Himachal tourism is in your plans, then this book will be a treasure map.

Travel the Mann way!

Giri Ganga was a revelation.   Despite all the complexities of urbanization, the natives have managed to live a peaceful, happy and prosperous life. What I like is she mentions how the region has prevention hands of poverty by hard and smart work. I was pleasantly surprised to know that the Kinnauris, are one of the wealthiest people of the Himachal, due to many cash crops. ‘Apple of Kinnaur’ is world-famous for its scrumptiousness and shelf- life.

Dry fruits, beans, peas, add to their prosperity. Kinnaur is also famous for the production of the local grape ‘Angoori’. This is a  collector’s item book, to find those less-traveled places, close to nature. Even if you don’t have adventure plans, this book will keep you dreaming. The author does an excellent job of taking the reader with her on her journeys.

When she jumped into the snow at Giri Ganga with frostbitten feet, I did too. Do you want to know what happened? Get the book now and read the adventures.

  My favorite parts

  • What she felt seeing Har ki Pourri. Strong forces do call us.
  • When she realized that drunken, New year celebrations at the campsite, are not her thing.
  • A quick visit to the Somnath temple and Gujrat kept me hooked.
  • Rann of Kutch has always fascinated me and the author didn’t disappoint.
