I like Marvellous Mrs. Maisel. It has a lot of abuse. But it’s not really targeted at religion or discriminatory. Plus she is funny. In India, many comedians think it’s funny to abuse Hindu religion and Sanatan Dharma. They also abuse anyone who stands up to them. I am a blessed Hindu woman and very lucky to be one. Inspite of all the evils that were and are in all societies, Hindus work towards improving inside out. I rarely write about controversial issues. Can you keep up with breaking news? Not really. But its time now.
Read this tweet and the attachment carefully.
Now according to reports(the actual content was removed by Shemaroo and I don’t want to share it on the blog), Ms. Kaur used abusive, untruthful derogatory sentences towards Iskcon and ancient Hindu culture. Shemaroo was the platform where it was published.
Now the question is, why such hateful, discriminatory untruthful, and harmful content allowed? Good habits and good entertainment improves mental health, lowers stress, and helps uplift society. The opposite happens when you deal with the wrong sort of content.
India is unique because of our Dharma. Not because few people think its cool to abuse, and that’s a quick way to make money.
Iskcon and Mr.Radharamn Das have filed an FIR against Shemaroo and Ms. Surleen Kaur.
They have refused to accept the apology given by the platform and are proceeding with legal action. Shemaroo has also said they are dissociating from Ms. Kaur, and Mr. Balraj Syal, since they failed to meet their standards of public decency.,
In the FIR, Mr.Radharamn Das mentions how a country is destroyed inside out by destroying the culture, family structure, values, educational system, and disrespecting eminent personalities, teachers, and scholars.
He also mentions that if mothers felt ashamed of being mothers, teachers were abused, and good people were poorly treated, then society is destroyed slowly. In this day and age, when we try to be responsible, kind and teach children about equality, we should also teach them more about standing up for their culture.
Because it’s our cultural values that have made India strong.
Freedom of speech, humor, entertainment, and TRP all make sense. Even Kamasutra has its place and time. But if you want respect, and are aware of your rights, then don’t forget to give respect and be mindful of your duties. No man is an island.
