How Online Pharmacies are Helping the Elderlies

With growing age, everyone requires relying on some or the other medicine to live a healthy life. However, the elderlies typically have several health abnormalities that need medication to give them some degree of comfort and wellness. While for some, it’s easy to find all their medications easily at any pharmacy near them, others go through a lot of struggle to find the appropriate dosage. Also, if they are living on their own and have no one to take care of the monthly medication cycle, it becomes even harder to go out and purchase the required medicines. This where the role of an online pharmacy comes in. Online Pharmacies have mushroomed all over the country and are doing exceptionally well. Not only are they a blessing for those who are stuck on a tight work schedule but also for the elderlies living alone. Here we have listed some of the major benefits of online pharmacies and how they are benefiting the elderlies. Take a look!

Home Delivery for Refills

Stepping out of the house may become difficult after a certain age, and repeated visits to the pharmacy may not be possible. Such situations are handled tactfully by online medicine stores like 1mg. The home delivery facility helps them get the right medications at the right time without the hassle of stepping out of the house. Whether they want to get it delivered to the house or anywhere else, delivery is never a problem for pharmacies running an online business.

How Online Pharmacies are Helping the Elderlies

The Wide Variety of Medicines

Many elderly patients deal with several medical issues. The online pharmacies have a robust selection of medicines related to diseases of all kinds. From medicines related to dental, dermatology, urology, pediatric and more, they have it all.  A basic knowledge of the internet is all that the elderlies need to have to order medicines online. The easy ordering process will help them keep the tab on their health by never skipping any important dose.

Skilled Assistance

To order any medication online, one needs to provide a scanned copy of their prescription. This ensures that the medicine ordered is accurate according to the prescription and keeps the customer away from any health hazards. Once the prescription is uploaded, a team of skilled and certified pharmacists verifies it before processing the order. Any discrepancy in the order and the prescription is communicated to the customer as a precaution to avoid any problem to the customer’s health.

Lab Tests @ Home

Another service offered by most of the top online pharmacies include lab tests at home. As stated earlier, it becomes difficult for the elderlies to step out of the house to get their tests done. Using this facility, they can easily get any of the tests including blood, urine, etc. easily at home. All they need to do is to book a test, and the chosen online pharmacy will appoint a Phlebotomist to collect the required sample. Once the sample is collected, it is sent for test and reports are delivered to the registered email ID or hard copies through the post (whatever the customer has opted for). In addition, if there are any precautions that the patient needs to keep in mind before the collection of the sample is conveyed to them via email. Yes, it’s that simple and convenient to book lab tests online.

So, if your parents live far away from you and need medical assistance time to time, make sure you introduce them to any of the top online pharmacies like 1mg to gift them a healthy life without any hassles. In addition, even you can book medicines and test on behalf of them and get them delivered at the most convenient location. 1. Netmeds is a licensed e-pharmacy with a staff of highly qualified pharmacists- those who study the medicines prescribed by doctors. Pharmacists check for accuracy in prescriptions and ensure that medicines customers ask for don’t contraindicate each other.

  2. ONline everything has just opened so many avenues – for both older people and the younger gneration! I love the fact that online pharmacies provide home deliveries – which put so many children who stay abroad an option to be at ease for providing their parents with medicines at a click of a mouse button!

  3. This would be a very helpful service to have in the U.S. Unfortunately, the insurance companies have a lot of power over where seniors purchase their medicines. So even if this service is convenient, it may in the long run be very expensive, and very limited in how often they can use it.

  4. Actually online pharmacies are helping all to save time and even money, more so to elder people. I have seen some family elders using it and they are so happy getting things done at home.

  5. Great insight on online pharmacy. i am so behind home delivery for refills because of the hassle of going to the doctor and getting prescriptions each time you run out. It’s a joke. Thanks for passing on.

  6. This is definitely helpful but Pharmaceutical Companies need to make their tablet identification on their foil packing particularly more readable for the elderly. The print is so fine that even a magnifying glass + prescription glasses makes it impossible to read. Not to mention the colour of the printed words that are hard to distinguish amidst the shiny foil ……Very often I dispense medicine according to the colour and shape of the tablet ….. only because I can’t read what is written. And when the shape changes ….. I have to ask the chemist to read out the name etc…..

    1. I am actually considering suing the Pharma companies because my father ( who is a doctor ) recently had a heart attack which he claims was brought on by a sudden increase in his blood pressure which he claims was caused because he took either the wrong tablet or the wrong dose … simply because he couldn’t read the writing on the foil

  7. I’m glad there’s something out there to help the elderly. I mean, I’ll be there down the line and I want to be sure there’s something that can help out if I need it.

  8. I’m glad this service is available. I have not used anything for myself other then a standing brick and mortar pharmacy but I also am not taking regular medications so it’s not beneficial to have anything else.

  9. I have not used it, as unlike US as Alana pointed out, the pharmacies in India are close by and some operate 24 hours. I can see the value when older people or someone in the family can use these online stores and order medicines. I have used home labs though and loved it !

  10. It is the need of the hour. With people having a busy schedule everyday nowadays, it is something everyone needs it. My parents and in laws both use these facilities and it makes things so much easier for everyone, even for us,since we are far off from them and we even get their monthly records straight to our mails.

  11. I’m all about anything online!!! Glad that there are online options for the elderly. So much easier for them

  12. I can only talk about experiences here in the United States both with me (almost a senior citizen), and my elderly mother in law (who is on multiple medications). Many of us have insurance plans that limit who we can use for medications, and discounts are limited if you don’t have insurance. The designated mail order pharmacies tend to have awful service if you need any kind of change or variation. On the other hand, my local pharmacy is individually owned and gives great service – but their hours are limited (until recently they weren’t even open at all on weekends). It’s become a major crisis here in the states (affording medications) and I don’t see it becoming better any time soon.

    1. That sounds very worrying Alana.Thank you for sharing your experience.Hopefully, safety and service will be kept in mind by these companies.

  13. This is a useful one Doc. I always feel when things can get conveniently bought with the click of a button, one should make use of it. But the only issue I see is many elderly people like my grandma are not well versed with computers and buying online, paying for it etc through net banking is kind of overwhelming for them

    1. Very very true. But maybe we can order for them if needed. When we are not there and they need urgent replacements, maybe we can help even from a distance.net banking is extraordinarily challenging for elderly. The answers are many and questions challenging. Thanks, Akshata.

  14. Yes. They are very useful. We make use of such online pharmacies too, and some are very prompt, especially with some medicines we don’t get elsewhere, or lab tests that have to be done early in the morning. 🙂

  15. Online medication sounds amazing and convenient in today’s fast pace life. It will really help all those who can’t reach to Pharmacy store!

  16. Shopping online has become part of people’s psyche, for travel arrangements, clothes and now, finally, healthcare. When you’re in strange city or live in the suburbs, or when you are taking care of loved ones, why travel across the city for medications ? It’s really great that those who care for their parents and loved ones and most of us who are used to shopping online also can now take advantage of the option to shop online for prescription medicines and over – the counter medication.

  17. That´s a very informative post! I never thought about what will happen when my parents will need medical assistance…

  18. I’m not elderly, but I do use an online pharmacy, and it’s so convenient to have my medication delivered to my home on a routine schedule. Seems like this is really helpful for the elderly! 🙂
