PM Narendra Modi gifts a lab-grown 7.5-carat green diamond to US First Lady Dr Jill Biden. This made me go green with curiosity. Is the Diamond really green? What exactly is a Green diamond? Why the green diamond I wonder whose idea it was. So after reading everything I could find on green diamonds, I had to share it on the blog. Because guess what?It’s eco-friendly.

Briefly:

Green Diamond looks like a natural diamond. Green Diamond created by Green Lab Diamonds was created using sustainable energy in a lab. The diamond reflects earth-mined diamonds’ chemical and optical properties. It is also eco-friendly, as eco-diversified resources like solar and wind. A 7.5-carat green diamond was gifted by PM Narendra Modi to US First Lady on his visit to the USA in June 2023

Once upon a time, India was the only place where diamonds could be mined. Many of the famous diamonds like Kohinoor, the Hope diamond, the Dresden Green diamond, and the Shah diamond were from the Golconda diamond mines and belonged to Indian royal families or Indian Gods and Goddesses. What is a Green Diamond?

Green colored diamond formed naturally was valued as a Green Diamond. Formed due to exposure to Uranium. The 41-carat Dresden Green Diamond mined from Golconda mines is one such rare Green colored natural diamond. That was discovered around 1722. The real Dresden Green Diamond can be seen at the Green Vault of the Staatliche Kunstsammlunge,

But Green energy used to create lab-grown diamonds is the new trending “Green Diamond” whose color may or may not be Green. Dresden, as part of the Saxon electors’ jewelry collection.

Its produced using Green or eco-friendly methods in the lab.

The diamond, artificially grown in a lab using hi-tech technology, emits only 0.028 grams of carbon per carat and is certified by the Gemological Lab. Natural diamonds can emit more than 125 pounds of carbon and Sulphur oxide too for each carat. But lab-grown diamonds produce much less carbon and no sulphur dioxide.
