Sharing my favorite plants for a green garden the year around

The best part about the village is ;its always green.

The worst part ?Even after 75 years of independence the Indian villages are not yet  self sufficient when it comes to education and health.

There is a lot to be done. But it has indeed come a long way.In 2008 when I first came to the village ,the electricity was so weak that I couldn’t see my face in the mirror. The fan moved like the tortoise and there was no tap water.

But I loved the environment of green everywhere. That stayed in my heart and during the COVID Pandeic I knew there was a chance to get out the self imposed home confinement and breathe in clean fresh air and walk in the green and not wear a mask.Having a home with a garden was not even in the dream because no one growing up in a small apartment in a city like Kolkata in a middle class home, listening to Anjan Dutta and Bhoomi, dreams of a “baganbari”.But what if it’s a broken down ancestral property and God gives you his blessings to restore it and spend time in it?

The tap water is running well ,the electricity  connection is good ,the roads are great and things are much better. I am very hopeful that if you can retain local talent and build the local economy the Amrit Bharat dream will definitely be a reality.

That’s what happened and the rest is history. In all my garden posts and my CauseAchatter series I have talked about my green journey .

It’s like turning green(in a good way) from inside, when you can feel the plants blowing air into your hair and blessing your with their stunning beauty. What if we had chlorophyll in our body and could release oxygen?Would that be helpful?Even if that’s not likely may be with our ideas and how we live  we can have more people preserving those family homes and green spaces and including green in urban design ,the world would not just be healthier but just so much more prettier.

  1. Oh my Amrita, what a beautiful garden! I could sit outside and just look and smell them. We also have Hibiscus here, they are one of my favorites.
