Durga Puja in Malta:Photo Memory Post

In this blog post, my cousin sister shares her experience praying to Mother Durga in far away Malta. Malta, an island in Southern Europe is the largest and most populous of the three major islands that constitute the Maltese Archipelago. The best part is Malta is an island in the Mediterranean Sea, with Italy to the south and Libya to its north. There is no dearth of celebrations of the Indian community in Malta and she shared pictures from the Janmashtami festival there.

In 2011 five Bengali Indian families living here started celebrating Durga puja in an intimate setting and that led to the setting up of the Bengali Association of Malta in 2018 .The puja initially was done with a photo of Goddess Durga and her family but in 2022 finally the pratima arrived from Kumartuli in Kolkata and the puja happens now every year in front of that pratima. This year too there was great anticipation of the celebrations and prayers that happened followed by cultural programmes and great food. All the Indian associations of Malta joined in to make this event a resounding success full of blessings and good feelings. As a home away from home the Malta Durga Puja celebration is one of the largest in a third-nation country. The mayor, members of parliament, Madam High Commissioner from the Indian High Commission and several dignitaries graced the event with their honorable presence. মাল্টায় সনাতনী মাতৃ বন্দনা

মাল্টা ভূমধ্যসাগরে অবস্থিত একটি খুব ছোট দ্বীপ রাষ্ট্র। এর রাজধানীর নাম ভ্যালেটা।
২০১১ সালে এখানকার বাঙ্গালী রা প্রথম ঘরোয়াভাবে দুর্গাপুজো শুরু করেন।ঁপাচটি পরিবার মিলে এখানে প্রথম পুজো শুরু করেন।২০১৮ সালে তৈরি হয় মাল্টার প্রথম বাঙ্গালি সংগঠন BAM(Bengali Association of Malta)।
২০২২ সালে কলকাতার কুমোরটুলি থেকে দেবী মূর্তি আনা হয়। তার আগে পুজো হতো ফটোতে।
এবছর ও খুব ধুমধামের সাথে পুজো সম্পন্ন হয়েছে। সন্ধ্যাবেলায় বিভিন্ন সাংস্কৃতিক অনুষ্ঠান করেছেন association এর সভ্যরা।অন্যান্য ভারতীয় associations থেকে প্রচুর ভক্ত পুজোতে যোগদান করেছিলেন।অষ্টমীর সন্ধ্যায় প্রায় ৫০০ ভক্ত মাতৃবন্দনায় যোগ দেন। আমরা বলতেই পারি যে দুর্গাপূজা মাল্টার সব থেকে বড়ো third nation country র উৎসব। মাল্টার পার্লামেন্ট থেকে MP, স্থানীয় Mayor এবং ভারতীয় হাইকমিশন থেকে ম্যাডাম হাইকমিশনার এবং অন্যান্য আধিকারিকরা পুজোতে এসেছেলেন। মাল্টার বিশিষ্ট জনেরা সুন্দর প্রতিমা ও পুজোর সুষ্ঠ আয়োজন দেখে মুগ্ধতা ও বিস্ময় প্রকাশ করেন।

প্রসঙ্গত উল্লেখ্য দুর্গা পুজো ছাড়া এখানে গণেশ বন্দনা, জন্মাষ্টমী, গরবা, দিওয়ালি হোলি পালিত হয়।
প্রতি বছরের মতো এবারো মাকে ঘরে তৈরী মিষ্টি, খিচুড়ি, ভাজা,পায়েস,পুরি,সব্জী,চাটনি দিয়ে ভোগ দেওয়া হয়েছে। বাগানের ফুল, তুলসিপাতা দিয়েই ভক্তরা ভক্তির সাথে পুষ্পাঞ্জলি দিয়েছেন। সন্ধ্যা বেলায় ধুনুচি নাচের আয়োজন ছিলো।

মাল্টা ক্যাথলিক দেশ।এখানে সমুদ্রের জলে ঠাকুর বিসর্জন দেওয়াতে নিষেধাজ্ঞা আছে। তাই পুজো শেষে প্রতিমা আগামী বছরের জন্য সংরক্ষিত রাখা হয়।
