  2. Do whatever brings you to life.

Myths about creativity the book busted

  1. Give up your day job and write
  2. You must suffer in order to create
  3. Perfection is overrated

Myth 1 Give up your day job to write!

You must give up everything to write. Having a 9 to 5 job prevents creativity this is a myth

In real life when you do have a 9to 5 job your financial worries are taken care of. Then you are free to create form a place with no stress.

Myth 2 You must suffer in order to be creative.

It’s painful to write. This is a negative emotion associated with the journey of creation

Truth: Creation is beautiful. It should not be painful. Choose to write from a place which is positive and hopeful and you will be happier.

Myth 3 Whatever you create must be perfect before it is revealed to the world.

Truth: Perfection is overrated. What is perfect for you, maybe totally imperfect for someone else. So strive for perfection from your perspective. Most of the time you can’t please everyone. It’s better to complete than strive for the mirage of perfection and use that as an excuse to never complete.

BIG MAGIC by Elizabeth Gilbert

My favorite message from the book Big Magic

We all have hidden treasures inside us. We must try to live our most creative life. But for that, we have to believe. We have to be courageous. We just need to believe, have faith and bring it out.

About the Author

Big Magic is written by Elizabeth Gilbert the internationally bestselling author of Eat Pray Love.

If the name is anything to go by and if you believe in the universe you must read this book

She has international best selling books of both fiction and nonfiction.

If you write, if you draw, if you’re knitting, baking, creating in any form you are creative.

But what exactly is creativity?

How do you live a creative life?

Why is creativity important for a better life?

What didn’t I like?

I am a fan. This book changed my life. I loved everything including the cover and back cover!

The trick to Money is having some

My thoughts about why I am sharing this book:

You must read the book if you love creating.

Anything which gives you pleasure and gives you joy may be a creative hobby. If you feel self-doubt and anxiety about exposing your work to the public.

The best part is you should love what you do enough to do it. But have enough detachment to not be affected by extreme success and the opposite.(That’s from the Bhagavad Gita)

The lesson of life is never done. Nothing is ever perfect. Things may always be improved. But you need to be ‘done’ some of the time if not most of the time.

Have you read the book?

Who is this book for?

If you are reading my blog this is for you.

If you are writing, this is for you.

If you want a happier life creating and making space for creativity in your life this is for you.

If you are a SAHM, WAHM, working from home /outside mom struggling to write on your blog, this is for you.

If you are a student and write as a hobby this is for you.

If you are in your twenties, thirties forties, or fifties this book is for you.

It will change your life.

  1. Some of the points mentioned from the book, sure do seem to strike a bell in my mind. Especially the 3 myths are very true in one angle (authors angle) and there might be others who say against it. But still it is a great effort in sharing a unique perspective 🙂
Will definitely consider picking it up and reading 🙂

  2. I like such books that are motivating and positive. I like that myth about not needing to have a negative experience to write. I agree creativity needs time but does not mean you should give up a paid job for the same.

  3. This actually sounds like the kind of book I’d want to try out. Thanks for bringing it to my notice.
