Secrets no one tells you about being a doctor

7 Secrets no one tells you about being a doctor is my gift to all the little boys and girls who want to grow up to be a doctor. It’s not a blueprint but a spirit guide to check whether you have it in you.

The life so short, the craft so long to learn.”
― Hippocrates

Study your entire life.

The five and a half years of MBBS then 3 years of post-graduate studies then more studies for super specialization.Even if you stop after MBBS you will need to study constantly to keep updated.

Why ?because while anatomy and physiology basics remain same, diseases get more vicious and ways to combat them become newer and newer. So please be ready to read a lot, your entire life.

Battle self-doubt

While Life and death are in Gods’ hand you can never give up.But often you will have a tough choice between choosing the right thing, easy thing, difficult thing, what patient wants, and what the Government wants.Be sure that you can handle the pressure and do the right thing even if its the hardest. If you can handle life and death on the same day, you can cope with self-doubt.

Be ready to fight for your own health

Because while helping others you will not eat, sleep or breathe on time. You will forget to relax, you will not eat healthy simply because nothing is available which is healthy when you are on your duties.Your mental health will be even more of a challenge. You will carry the hopes, pains, expectations of hundreds of people every day.You will help some but not all.Always remember you have to do what you have to do.What happens is destiny.

Secrets no one tells you about being a doctor

You will prevent disease when you can, for prevention is preferable to cure.

But the problem is you will have to explain this to people who will not listen, or it will be too late when they do .But you will still try. So you must have a persistent bone in your body.If not you will soon give up.

Be ready to feel blessed.

Be very strong remember your blessings and always trust the Universe to guide you.Our life has a purpose. It’s not just like that. There’s a karmic cycle which has made you read my post today.Maybe you are a friend, maybe you are a stranger.Whoever wherever I know you understand what I am talking about. You know the life and death is a cycle that we all must go through. It is a journey before the big adventure of meeting the maker.

You will experience the joy of healing those who seek your help.

But be ready to be a part of the most endangered professional healers. who know the truth. You will feel their pain and help them heal, even while it makes you weaker and stronger at the same time.

You will be a doctor if you study. But to be a good doctor you will have to feel pain, heal disease and always remember that it is  God who is doing the miracle.

  1. Its tough being a doctor but it is such a noble profession. I too wanted to be a doctor but destiny had something else in store for me. And I agree with what you said in the end – just medical studies aren’t enough, you have to feel the patient’s pain.

  2. It’s really nice to find someone in the blogging world who has similar interests and profession! Great to connect with you!

  3. As the daughter of a doctor who was discouraged from joining the profession, I tried to discourage my own daughter from following suit. Unfortunately she is now an anaesthesiologist and loving every moment of being a mom, a wife and a doctor. Her popular prescription for my every ailment is to “losse weight! ” It’s a tough life especially in India where doctors have to face the ire of unreasonable relatives, work insane hours for peanuts, and not supposed to go on holiday ever.

  4. I can relate to this as I am in IT and need to study constantly to keep up, I cant even imagine what a Doctor has to go through, Great advice, be strong and count the blessings!

  5. It’s a tough job to b a doctor , to listen to patients , working day n night , but the joy of healing someone is special …..special claps for u bcoz u r equally doing wonders on Ur blog too

  6. I think that the best doctors are the ones who are always studying and always learning. I would trust a doctor who can admit he doesn’t know everything and is willing to learn more.
