5 Weekend Resorts around Kolkata for Families #MMM

I am forever bugging my hubby for weekend getaways.Quick budget trips to nature and gets back refreshed. Not too much traveling for the body, but a great rejuvenation for the mind.Who doesn’t want that .over the last few years I have zeroed in on a few of my favorites?

5 Weekend Resorts around Kolkata for Families

My top picks are curated after intensive research. When you travel with children you are more careful about things like safety, food quality and entertainment options for kids.Keeping that in mind and the destination being around Kolkata  I was spoiled for choice.

Rivers .sea ,jungle or ruralBengal? All are equally captivating.Scroll through to plan your weekend in Kolkata.

Kolaghat Hotel Sonar Bangla

Is located right on the beautiful river Rupnarayan. The paved promenade by the river is pleasant for strolling. The swimming pool in the hotel property makes for some family times and the lush green grounds don’t disappoint. If you have children with you, you are sure to feel glad for choosing this option. The infinity pool gives you a feeling of swimming in the Rupnarayan itself, without any of the dangers.

It has an untouched beauty which will refresh you.Located 54Km from Kolkata and is a green oasis you will love. You can travel by road or rail.It is roughly 2 hours from proper Kolkata depending on traffic.By rail, it’s about one and a half hours and you have whopping 93 options to choose from.
Visit the birthplace of the famous literary giant Sarat Chandra Chattopadhyay at Deuti.

Raichak on the Ganges

This is great if you are spending some time with a group of friends or family and want the comfort of home.rent the bungalow or pool cottages at Ganga kutir.

You can also check out the heritage property Fort Raichak. Its magnificent architecture and historic grandeur are perfectly balanced with the scenic beauty all around.Built in 18th century by the then all-powerful East India company the resort speaks in whispers of things it has seen. The stunning view of the beautiful Ganges will relax your soul and is the perfect place to try meditation.Eat, pray and enjoy.

Go for a river cruise or just spend time exploring the Haldia port.you will have a wonderful time There is a famous Sai Baba Mandir for a quick holy blessing

Mandarmoni is an absolute favorite which I visit every year at least twice without fail. The sea here makes any time a fun time.Building sand castles never go out of fashion for kids.If the sea is in the plan you can also check out Puri Just fly to Bhubaneswar from Kolkata (45 minutes )and drive to the Mahadadhi Palace resort by road in 2 hours (it’s just 65 km from the airport. The cost of the trip will be on the high side, but well worth it

Vedic Village

This one gives you a taste of rural Bengal, but in luxury and you don’t have to travel too far Gorgeous landscapes, artistic traditional architecture with all the comforts of home. What else do you need>A range of flora fauna birds bees and butterflies, and 150 acres of farmland will enchant you. It’s a world-class resort with all amenities and perfect for families. But it’s a tad expensive for spending a night in the city!Only 20 minutes from Kolkata airport you may consider spending some time here if you are dropping into Kolkata with family.

Sundarbans

This one is an adventure weekend. The  Sundarban riverside Holiday resort has by far the best facilities but Ac works only during the day as the diesel generator is the main powers source. That can be a problem during summer.Exotic location, jungle safari, delicious food and great staff makes this a good place to spend a weekend with your family just unwinding.Best time to visit is December-January during the cooler months. But I have a bonus option for you a river cruise in Sundarbans in a houseboat. They have a special offer for moms.Moms in the family for children up to 12th standard need not pay at alThat’sts such a sweet gesture .The houseboat thing is inclusive of all charges and they have a wonderfully flexible payment structure.

The only problem is the security. Both from animals and humans .i am not totally convinced of ythe security arrangement in a boat.

What do I look for in a resort for a weekend getaway?

A good budget package for families

I love a good deal.Who doesn’t?Perks and goodies at unbelievable rates. That’s my motto behind all trip plans

Pick up and drop facilities from Kolkata included in the package

If this facility is missing, it will add to your trip cost.If that’s not an issue having your own car handy is always a good option.

Nature bounty with plenty of green covers and clean air

I don’t travel without nature at the other end.Let me rephrase I never travel for pleasure, to places without plenty of green.I love shopping, restaurants, and malls. But I would love it, if they were in a tree house, surrounded by tropical rain forest and chirping birds.

Child-friendly with indoor and outdoor play areas. This will make perfect sense  for all parents.

A swimming pool is a great add-on for summersUntil the kiddos have fun there’s no respite to the moon and back.So if I want to have a relaxing time I pick resorts with plenty of kid activities.

Great food

This goes without saying .I want healthy options as well as indulgence on menus. It should also have options for children.Which parent would want a cranky child at meal times? No one.So this one can make or break a deal

Within 2 to 3 hours from the city

I definitely don’t want to travel constantly to stay for a few hours.Minimum travel and maximum fun. That’s my recipe for rejuvenation over the weekend .What’s yours?Comment below to share your favorite resort story in and around the city you live in.

  1. I am a total foodie. The place maybe the best in its designing and hospitality but if the food is not tasty, it is a big no for me. And you have given some really useful information about the hotels in Kolkata. Thanks for sharing with us.

  2. Great list Amrita with good tips for parents to choose a resort perfect to visit with families. I have heard a lot about mandarmoni from you. May be someday..I will visit Kolkata and visit one of these.

  3. I share your sentiment about the greens. If I have to go to concrete buildings on a holiday then I am well off in my apartment. If it is to be holiday then it surely must be nature whether it is hills or sea. My personal favourite is hills for the quietness. While Kolkata is far off, I would be more interested in catching up with Deepa’s post for resorts around Bangalore.
