Why Read a Book?

It’s calming. It helps you get deep into a topic.

Physical books are easy to underline, highlight, tag and come back later for perusal. It can be handed down, shared, sold, donated to libraries. Its a one time cost .You don’t need internet or any gadget to read a physical book anywhere anytime. Its like soothing music to your eyes after the Blue light onslaught.Go pick up a book.

I have  Kindle app  and Epub reader on all my phones.I own a Kindle .But I still buy both Bengali and English books to read. Its brilliant how books are the best way to share your childhood, wisdom and education with your kids.

When my daughter was five  I gifted her the complete book set of Famous Five. She liked the occasional book but was not yet,a book worm. But I was patient. Then in 2020 when the pandemic lockdown and the online classes made online entertainment a problem for eyes, she picked up the box set and finished within a week and my little reader was born.

After that I didn’t have to ask her to read a book.We both read books together.I read the children’s books even now when I need a calm,  happy read and my childhood reading habits have ensured I can stand or sit anywhere and wait in line when I have a book.

A few words about e-readers

The best part about e-readers is you can carry thousands of books anywhere across the world with you and not break a sweat. With libraries like Kindle Unlimited the only limit is your time to read .

At home I still like my physical books to snuggle up to in the afternoon.

The important thing to remember is,you don’t have to choose between the paperback/hardback/e-reader.They are just modes by which the stories or information reach you.The test for a reader is to be a life long reader, because apparently its a rare species nowadays!

I have a home library and it’s a place of joy for me and my daughter.
