Chubby cheeked babies, look adorable . Weight gain and developement goes hand in hand during infancy.
The problem is when the weight gain is inappropriately high.
After the laddoos , sweets ,savouries and deep-fried delights of festivals ,this is an unpleasant topic.
The Good news is ,the solution is in your hand.The bad news is you need to accept there’s a problem!
I received an avalanche of response.
It seems moms have always understood this .The evidence just came late.

Overfeeding issues again are something moms know about.But can’t help .
It’s more often seen after weaning.When mother’s and other caregivers worrying about poor development, force feed and over feed.

To avoid tantrums , sweets and high calorie snacks are regularly given as bribes.
The little one learns to bargain soon.That’s the start of a vicious cycle.
With today’s economy both parents need to work .When they are unable to look after their kids , guilt trips are common.
Guilt trips and exhaustion is behind many poor nutritional choices.
Coming home with bags full of cookies and chocolates makes it worse.
Till 2 years of age the content of fat in the diet is important ,to give calorie rich food .Fats are important for brain development .
But after 2 years you just can’t load up on fats .
A balanced diet is important .
Childhood obesity :The control is in your hand is the first truth.
In India undernutrition is still more common than childhood obesity.Unfortunately the section of society who need help with that ,can’t read .They are uneducated and undernourished. Making it an evil cycle.
What many don’t know ,is malnutrition of obesity ,is as bad as that in undernutrition .
Both are bad for a child’s brain and body.

Unfortunately most parents are stuck here at the first level itself.
If you can’t accept child is overweight when the evidence is otherwise ,that’s the first roadblock. It’s also the most difficult one.

Parents come with complications of obesity.But not with the aim to lose weight.
The commonest thing parents say “he hardly eats any rice .Just a few chocolates and chips ,with one or two glasses of cold drinks.”They wake up to the problem when clothes keep shrinking .
